Lego Cars 2011

It’s been confirmed that the Lego Company will be producing sets to coincide with the release of Cars 2, like they did for the release of Toy Story 3. Lego previously made sets for Cars with Duplo bricks (larger than normal size), but these will be made with the regular system bricks (though I think they are making more Duplo set too).

The release date is supposedly May 5th.

No pictures have been released yet, but here is the list of sets:

8200 CARS Radiator Springs Lightning McQueen
8201 CARS Classic Mater
8206 CARS Tokyo Pit Stop
8423 CARS World Grand Prix Racing Rivalry
8424 CARS Mater’s Spy Zone
8426 CARS Escape at Sea
8484 CARS Ultimate Build Lightning McQueen
8486 CARS Mack’s Team Truck
8487 CARS Flo’s V8 Café

The Ultimate Build Lightning McQueen will be built in a larger scale than the others.

These are my predictions for the sets:

8200 CARS Radiator Springs Lightning McQueen
This is probably just a Lightning car; this will most likely be one of the smallest sets.

8201 CARS Classic Mater
This is probably just a Mater truck; will most likely be one of the smallest sets.

8206 CARS Tokyo Pit Stop
No idea what this one will come with, obviously it is from the Japan sequence though.

8423 CARS World Grand Prix Racing Rivalry
This will probably come with Lightning and that other car from all the concept art.

8424 CARS Mater’s Spy Zone
This will probably come with Mater, Finn McMissile, and some spy themed accessories.

8426 CARS Escape at Sea
I think this one will come with whatever villain it is that Finn McMissile is trying to catch (and maybe Finn again), this has no factual basis, its just my best guess. Might come with a boat?

8486 CARS Mack’s Team Truck
This will probably come with Mack and Lightning.

8487 CARS Flo’s V8 Café
This could come with any number of the residents of Radiator Springs (though I highly doubt we’ll get Fillmore, Sarge, Lizzie, or Red). I think it will be a playset of the café, and probably will be the biggest of the sets.

Hmm. A water chase with cars should be interesting to see in the film. I also wonder what the Cars minifigs will look like.

Do you think they will be one big piece or just made out a bunch of small pieces?
I wonder if they’ll make a video game?

I’m guessing that we’re going to have to build them.

I think that they’re definitely going to make a video game…but I can be wrong.

If they make a video game, it would probably be based off of the Lego racers game. I’m so excited for these sets. After Lego stopped the Bionicle line, I started to lose interest in Lego, but recent releases and future releases have re-sparked my interest in Lego.

I never really had a huge interest in Lego. A lot of people here are really interested in that stuff though.

I hope the ‘Ultimate Build Lightning McQueen’ is a Lego Technic! It would be so awesome, I remember we had a red Lego Technic sports car which we never got round to fixing up.

My family used to buy a lot of Lego sets for us when we were kids. They weren’t cheap, but boy did we love 'em! I even had a truck drag racing set for my birthday before I even knew what they were about! I remember I would build ‘alternate’ models like the ones they suggest on the back side of the box.

Back to the lineup, I’m very excited for ‘Mater’s Spy Zone’ and ‘Escape at Sea’. I wonder if [spoil]Finn McMissile[/spoil] will be an amphibious like the Lotus Espirit in ‘For Your Eyes Only’?

interesting…I was wondering how they would do mini figs. If they are mainly scene type play sets that is good for my wallet. I am still interested in the the ones that build Lightning, mack, ect.

I was missing a part in my Lego Pizza planet truck and they asked if I wanted a catalog that includes the 2011 releases. Hoping it has the cars lego and if so I will post any new info when I get my part in a a week or week and a half.

I want the Mack’s Team Truck for sure. Lighning and Mater will depend on the size and/or quality. I don’t plan on the Flo set but will reserve final judgment until I see better pics

I definitely have to buy the Tokyo International Circuit set. It reminds me exactly of how the Daytona 500 was set up. Plus I can pretend I’m doing pit stops!

Any idea on how much that particular set will be?
