Lets Talk About DreamWorks Ripoffs....

Antz is more a mature version of A Bug’s Life. [i]Anyz came out first but I like A Bug’s Life more.

Shark Tale is also considered a rip-off of Finding Nemo, but the only similarities between the two are the fact that they’re both set underwater. The plot and style is completely different.

Actually, The Wild was apparently in production years before Madagascar. Madagascar just came out sooner.

It was? Praise General Zod!!!

And anyway, CORE made it, Disney just distributed it, anyway, even if it was a rip-off. :-\

I can’t say I hate Dreamworks. They’ve one some movies I liked
Shrek
Shrek 2
Over the Hedge
How to train your dragon

But with the exception of Dragon, I only “liked” them. but I LOVE Pixar movies. I loved all three Toy Storys, I loved The Incredibles, and Wall-E, I repeatedly watch these and never get tired of them, Dreamworks doesn’t do that. Dreamworks is just fun for the moment but I don’t think too much of them afterwards. And there’s no character in Dreamworks films that I would rush to a theme park to get my picture taken with.
But yeah, even though I don’t hate Dreamworks, even I raised an eyebrow and totally ignored Shark Tale.

Shark tale also features a vegetarian shark

Though the vegetarian shark was a pretty obvious metaphor for homosexuality in Shark Tale, where Finding Nemo it was more addiction.

Vegetarian shark is vegetarian :unamused:

Oh yeah, I never thought of that. Still, I’m not really convinced it’s a rip-off. Maybe Finding Nemo’s underwater theme did inspire Dreamworks to create Shark Tale, but the films are very different hence the underwater setting.

It should also be noted that Shark Tale was less successful than FInding Nemo, both critically and financially.

^Because Sharktale is terrible, and even I enjoy Nemo on some levels.

I used to enjoy watching Shark Tale all the time, but I soon began to grow bored of it the more I watched it. I’ve never really been a big fan of Finding Nemo. Recently though, I’ve grown to like it more. It used to be my least favourite Pixar film, but I think that title now goes to Cars, not saying it was bad or anything.

It is my least favorite, but I have my reasons…

Don’t worry, Hannah Montana will be ending soon. As for the Jonas Brothers, their career has been dying since Justin Bieber came to town.

I apologise for the followingbump. ;-p
I’ve heard a lot of that rip off stuff by these two Disney Vs. Dreamworks videos by “The Nostalgia Chick” on TGWTG (if you’re going to check the videos be warned that there can be strong language).

Now that I think about it–that’s EXACTLY why I hate Dreamworks now, and why I hadn’t gone to see KFP or KFP2.

I honestly don’t think DreamWorks has REALLY ripped anyone off besides Antz. Even then the story was sufficiently different that I wasn’t horrible offended. Shark Tale, yeah its kinda a close general setting but really the styles are completely different.

The Only one which has a legitimate claim is whichever of Wild/Madagascar actually came first.

Honestly, I don’t know if DreamWorks needs to rip anyone off because they have the potential to create absolutely fantastic films. They don’t live up to that most of the time, but the potential is there.

Ok, you’re right. I could have watched KFP, but the trailer threw me off. :frowning:

Shark Tale and Madagascar are the reasons I am now skeptical of anything Dreamworks makes. I didn’t even see How to Train Your Dragon until January 2011 because of my low opinion of Dreamworks now.

The sad thing is that if Pixar ever decides to make a movie about dragons, people will say that they ripped off Dreamworks…

Seriously? What if it’s years later, the characters aren’t comparable and the plots are completely different? That’s like saying Dreamwork’s Father of the Pride is a rip off of Lion King.
About the rip offs, what I’ve seen from the NChick videos I’ve learnt stuff like Dualing from Dreamworks (maybe where they copy Pixar/Disney) and the rip offs might (not exactly sure) be Katzenberg (whatever his name is) angry at Disney, since he used to work there and didn’t get the place he wanted. And stuff like HTTYD I getting off of that.

Mhm…well, I’m kinda speechless here. :-\
