If this should be in another sub-forum, mods, direct it so.
With the second trailer and Japanese trailer, I’m more and more enclined to take some educated guesses about the big pink bear who “smells like strawberries!”
Lotso is a villain, and is the reason the toys are having a hard time leaving
*He was seen in the trailer standing in front of the other toys from the “Criminal Underworld”
*In the Japanese trailer, he was seen [spoil]calmy and smugly watching the toys being attacked from above[/spoil]
*In the Meet Ken clip, he pretty much [spoil]said “Shut up” to Woody and moved along easily.[/spoil]
*With him being leader of Sunnyside, he has the Sunnyside toys do whatever he says.[spoil] The Chatter telephone tells Woody they’lle never escape. Why wouldn’t they be able to escape when in the past they took an apartment by storm and drove home from an airport?[/spoil]
*[spoil]Stretch, Chunk, Big Baby, and Sparks were clearly seen attacking Andy’s toys. They along with Twitch were seen flanking Lotso as his own personal team. [/spoil]
He seems to be similar to the Prospector and his beliefs about owners and life.
What doesn’t make sense is WHY Lotso doesn’t want the toys to escape Sunnyside. He doesn’t want “the little ones” to be sad over losing a few toys?
Whether he reforms or not, Lotso is a toy I’m keeping an eye on with the parade of commercials about to rain upon us in the coming month.
EDIT- Please use spoiler tags when revealing information about a film that has not yet been released, thanks! I’m also going to move this to the Toy Story section of the boards.
[spoil]The sense I get from just the few clips/trailers I’ve seen is that Lotso and the Sunnyside Gang want to keep Andy’s Toys at the daycare because “new toys” distract the little monsters- um, kids, from mangling- um, playing with the old toys.[/spoil]
I also have a strong feeling that Lotso will [spoil]end up being “redeemed” by the end of the movie, because - word on the Disboards (the big Walt Disney World forum) is that Lotso will be the new meet-and-greet character featured at the Disney Studios park at WDW. He will be taking over the area occupied for the past year by Carl, Russell & Dug and their “Up” environment. So far, it sounds like he’s going to have that area all to himself, and he seems to be the only new TS3 character planned to appear in the parks. Sure, they’ve had meet-and-greet villains before, but the way they’re promoting him, I’d just be really surprised if he didn’t turn out to be “lovable” in the end.[/spoil]
Ah, sorry about the spoilers. My humblest of apologies.
I’m not sure if he would ever [spoil]get redeemed.[/spoil] But the first idea is an idea I’ve had in the veeeeeery back of my head, and that seems likely. But in the second English trailer, Lotso was seen being hugged and played with… I guess your idea does make sense. He did keep going on about how the little ones love new toys.
The latest edit for Toy Story 3 on the Pixar Wiki explains some of Lotso’s backstory, however I won’t recommend reading it to most of you that don’t want to spoil the film cause it gives out the entire storyline from the early screenings: [url]http://pixar.wikia.com/Toy_Story_3[/url]
Thanks for the warning Flik-E. I’m going to avoid reading this topic, as well as the Toy Story 3 section on PIXAR Wiki until after June 18. Really want to be pleasantly surprised.
This one is probably pretty obvious. But Lotso is probably going to take advantage of Buzz goes back tobeing the way he use to be because in the trailer Lotso says, “you gotta play date with destiny.” And Buzz is sitting next to him in a chair. Maybe Lotso has his goons capture one of the toys, and Buzz is sitting their looking at everything do down and does nothing about it because he’s not his usual self.
In the trailer, the criminal underworld toys say Buzz could be useful… and at one point, Buzz is seated next to him, with a deadly angry look. Maybe once they see Buzz malfunctioned (the first trailer) they sorta brainwash him to serve them… which could explain both the scenes in the Japanese trailer when [spoil]Buzz attacks something from the air and then its shown the toys being attacked from the air as well while Lotso looks on calmly…[/spoil]
While the idea about Lotso’s actual use for the toys makes good sense, why does Lotso so intently want THEM to stay in the daycare? Why does he seem determined to [spoil]kill them with the trash compactor[/spoil] otherwise?
An idea sprung up in my head about that… what if Lotso was once Andy’s toy? His FAVORITE toy? Try this theory:
Lotso was Andy’s favorite toy before Kindergarten, a hand me down to explain his age. However, Andy got Woody, who quickly became his favorite toy. Lotso was heartbroken by being abandoned and forgotten while all the other toys and Woody were played with.
Or to make his story even more heartbreaking, Andy became ALLERGIC to Lotso’s strawberry scent - making it impossible for Andy to ever play with him anyway.
Anyway, Lotso was either donated to Sunnyside, or was thrown out. After being thrown out, he desperately wandered until he reached Sunnyside. On the journey there, Lotso injured his leg, explaining his cane and truck bed.
Either way he got to Sunnyside, he became leader of the toys.
Um… Hello! Am I the one of the only ones [spoil]that has seen the box art for the Lego Trash Compactor? That pretty much proves that Lotso IS the villian.[/spoil]
Yeah, seen it in stores. If it was a spoiler, it wouldnt be out yet.
[spoil]Lets not forget Pricklepants being first touted as the villian, everyones forgotten about him though, which was their plan. Mark my words[/spoil]
You could be right.Pricklepants is voiced by Timothy Dalton. Hollywood does love to make an Englishmen the villain of films. He doe’s start in the good guys camp though. That much I do know.
Well, [spoil]I checked barns and noble today, and saw a Toy Story 3 book that shows the ending! I was wrong! Lotso IS the main villian, which sucks, for me becasue I shoudlnt have watched any trailers. Thats the difference between anticipating a movie in 95, vs 2010, the internet gets in the way.
So if anyone wants to see the pic of ANDY GIVING his Toys to the girl who owns pricklepants, I can upload it. I also have a picture of Chuckles[/spoil]
[spoil]Yes, thats the ending. Sucks I blew it by reading it, but I really like it. Its perfect. It sends the message that if you have personal property, take care of, or find someone who will. A very “earth day” friendly message. A big F YOU to those who tear shit up for no reason.
