Lotso vs Hopper - Better villain?

Which one of these Pixar villains would you say is better? Both of them have quite a few similarities. They’re ruthless dictators who ruled over others with an iron fist and they punish anyone who defies them. Such as when Lotso showed Woody and the gang the broken phone or when Hopper sent Thumper (his crazy grasshopper minion) to beat up Flick.

I agree that both of these villains are great characters. They are both well developed and truly menacing. However, if I had to chose I’d say that Lotso is my favorite because he has an interesting backstory and unlike Hopper where he’s clearly superior to a single ant, Lotso is a rather unexpected villain. What I mean is that one look at Hopper sums up that he is an evil dude. Lotso may twist your mind with his cute appearence and the fact that he’s a teddy bear who is usually portrayed as a loveable and caring toy. Not to mention what he did in Toy Story 3’s finale. Hopper is a close second though in my book.

Lotso is a certified monster. He does terrible things because of his extreme bitterness and anger. At least Hopper was trying to get food, whereas Lotso wanted to make everyone around him as miserable as he was.

I agree with the logic of Sad Strange Little Man.

However, I think Hopper had more control over his minions than Lotso’. None of the grasshoppers ever stood up to him, where as Ken and Big Baby eventually do astand up to Lotso’.

I like Lotso better, but that’s because he has a reason, whereas Hopper’s a bully because he can be.

Both are cruel, but Hopper’s been one of my favorite villians for years. Also I just think he’s so evil in general, because he’s so demanding. Lotso is still great too.

hmm, interesting point that they’re quite similar characters in certain ways, anstrnty. I’ve always loved the character of Hopper as he has such a power about him, such a force that’s difficult to defy, and his relationship with his brother really intrigues me. But Lotso is, in my opinion, a Hopper gone one step further. He’s more extreme, more evil and possibly slightly crazy too. I think I prefer Hopper, but Lotso is definitely a ‘better’ villain.

I’ll have to go with Lotso because his story was more fleshed-out thanks to Chuckles the Clown’s “flash-back” and because he was so very, very “evil”.

I mean, Lotso was basically responsible for the deaths of however many hundreds of toys that he locked in the Caterpillar room and he ran all of Sunnyside like a prison. Not to mention the fact that he played an active role in the (almost) deaths of all of Andy’s toys after Woody and Buzz saved him, but then he just walked away without stopping the conveyor belt.

That’s pretty darn evil to me. The fact he is so cute and cuddly looking and smells like strawberries just makes the fact he is “evil” all that more interesting.

I’ll go with Hopper. I thought he was just awesome and even though he was the villain, I really enjoyed him as a character. I can’t say the same for Lotso, who was just despicable. Especially since he has a friendly appearance at first.

I like Lotso better, but think Hopper is the meanest. Lotso may have gave several innocent toys hell by beating them up and forcing them into a room where they’re badly played with, as well as turning the whole daycare center into a prison, but Hopper is worse in my opinion.

I mean look at what he did. He threatened to feed Dot to Thumper, made the colony double the amount of food when he gave them a second chance, brutally choked Flik, and when he came back and saw how much the ants had tried to gather for him, he even went as far as to try and squash the Queen. Even the way he treated Molt was unforgivable, threatening to kill him and what-not. He truly is one of Pixar’s meanest villains.

Lotso almost [spoil]doomed the toys who just saved his worthless plush hide to a fiery demise. As well as basically ruining Big Baby and Chuckle’s lives by making them leave Daisy. And to top it off he turned a daycare into a prison.[/spoil]

Thing is I find the Toy Story characters a lot more endearing than the ones in A Bug’s Life so I’m more alarmed when they are in danger.

^ I agree. And I think Hopper was just a bully, which is not interesting to me. No dimensions.
Lotso also essentially “killed” Buzz by re-setting him. He wiped all his memories and set him back to his default mode.

From what Lotso said, it sounded like he’d done more than beat up a few toys. He was responsible for sending toys to the Caterpillar Room and there were very few toys in the Caterpillar Room when Andy’s toys were sent there. It seems only logical to conclude that the other toys Lotso sent there were broken by the toddlers, thrown in the trash and met the same fate that Andy’s toys almost met.

Hopper seemed like all talk and no action to me. He made a lot of threats, but he didn’t really follow through on any of them. Lotso definitely followed through on his threats and was more than happy to manipulate people into doing what he wanted, even if it meant their deaths.
