You heard me right, The Parade and all the people watching on TV got Rick Roll’d. But not only that, Rick Astley himself did the Rick Roll. And what a Epic moment it was being Rick Roll’d by the Man him self.
Yes, I’ve been RickRoll’d. But I never mind, since I have always loved the song.
Masterweaver: To build on TS2’s definition, a RickRoll is when you post a link that looks like it has to do with the topic at hand. Say we’re discussing teddy bears. Someone comes along and says, “here’s a great link to an article on teddy bears,” but in reality it’s a link to a YouTube video of Rick Astley singing “Never Gonna Give You Up,” which tends to be annoying to the average internet surfer, because the song is pretty cheesy, of the late-80s variety.
Large-scale RickRolls are my favorite, like when the Mets offered to let people vote on the new 8th-inning sing-along song. A few sites organized a drive to get “Never Gonna Give You Up” selected as the song. It succeeded, and on Opening Day, Shea Stadium was not pleased. You couldn’t hear the song for the boos. It was awesome.
I posted my above post before watching the parade video, so now I can say that my eyes have never set themselves on anything as epic as that. Matt Lauer ruined it, though, by hinting at a surprise, and it needed to be longer. But other than that, Rick Astley is now infinitely cool. We’re talking Chuck Norris levels here.
