Back in 2008, Warner bros. and Alcon Entertainment announced plans for a live action/cgi film starring Marvin The Martian. All that is known about it is that it will involve Marvin intending to destroy Earth during Christmas, but the protagonist prevents Marvin from doing so by wrapping him inside a gift box. That was the last major news about the film and it was originally slated for release this October, but now it is slated for release on October 7, 2012. A Christmas movie in October? They might as well release it in July! Anyway, apparently it is currently in pre-production with filming slated to begin at the end of this year. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m excited for this, I really am. I don’t know why, I just am. I guess maybe because it’s Marvin the Martian? Two Chipmunks movies, Yogi Bear, that recent Jim Carey movie and Hop all looked like awful movies. There has yet to be a live action/cgi film that looked good to me, and I’m sure this movie will continue the trend. Lots of pop culture references, poop jokes, some puns and subtle and not so subtle adult humor to move the story along. And I’m sure the tralier will have a rap song in it.
Seeing this post reminded me of an article I read sometime last year about the Fraggle Rock movie in the works. It seems that the movie had staled because the person writting the script stayed true to the tone of Jim Hensons show. But the suits felt like the script wasn’t edgy enough. That worried me. That was the last I had heard of the movie. I hope it’s cancelled.
Well, I shouldn’t judge without knowing, but that seemed like a terrible idea.
Like theoutsider said, most live action-CGI films haven’t been good. They should work on something nice now to redeem that technique if they don’t want to bury it forever.
Marvin is my favorite Looney Tunes character, so I’m very excited for this.
But aren’t you a little scared? I would be if he was my favorite character.
I’ll withold my response until I see what the animation looks like.
No!! What’s with all these movies? Ugh. I don’t like all these Looney Tune character movies being announced.
Marvin is my favorite Looney Tune character, but I’m not excited about this prospect of him having his own CGI Christmas movie.
Really guys? Marvin is my favorite Looney Tunes character, but I didnt realize he’d be strong enough to carry a whole movie by himself, since according to the article they arent sure if any other characters would be in it. And I dont dig this current trend of making cartoons look ‘real’ by making them live action/cgi. Not to mention the plot sounds silly and the premise has been done (tell me, in the end does he realize the true meaning of Christmas?). I guess I dont get why Marvin would even care about Christmas. He wanted to destroy the Earth as a planet, not just a holiday.
I think its safe to say that this is good as dead, I haven’t heard anything new about this feature. I have heard reports about live-action/CG films of Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, and Pepe Le Pew. Nothing new on those either. Its safe to say that these may be dead. Lets just hope. I’d hate to see the most well known cartoon characters turned into photo realistic freaks.
I hope Warner Brothers forgets all about this. And you’re right lennonluvr. I love Marvin, but I don’t think he’s a strong enough character to carry on a whole movie.
I’m new here, but I was on a flight from L.A. yesterday and the guy next to me was reviewing a script from the Marvin the Martian movie. I did not bother the guy, but paid close attention.
Marvin having a Christmas movie. I don’t think I could see it.
