Ten days until Megamind’s release, and I can honestly say that I’m pretty excited. I’m not going to put my hopes up too high for it, but I do want to give it a chance, and I feel that it definitely has the potential to be a great movie.
My sister and I are gonna try and make a trip to the movies to see this one when it comes out. I really don’t want to take my brothers along, because they have the tendency to tear apart a movie before they’ve seen the whole thing, which is dumb, and I don’t need their negativity thrown into the whole experience.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one planning to see it little_chef! November is busy, I’m determined to see Harry Potter and Tangled. So if I can get enough money, my friend and I will see Megamind.
Yay, it’s good to know I’m not the only one excited for this movie to come out!
IV: lol, the ‘blue girl’ in my sig belongs to the friend on dA who drew the picture. It’s her HtTYD fan-character Kwayla, who is a troll and plays a big part in her HtTYD fan fiction.
EJE: This will be the third movie I’ve seen this year, but my sis and I are probably only going to see it once since we spent all our money earlier this year on seeing HtTYD. I really, really hope that we don’t have to bring our brothers along, though…
little_chef: I didn’t know you had brothers! How many? Are they younger, bratty ones? Laugh out loud!
I’m surprised how this film has creeped up on us. I thought there was still one month or so (it’s been in the back of my mind compared to other films like Tangled and Harry Potter)!
Quick check on IMDB shows Malaysia and Singapore get it one day before the US, aaannddd… no release date for Australia.
Of course I will get it at least a month later than the rest of the world, as usual. You’d say that the digital era we’re in would get rid of silly problems like this.
I trust someone will, but we’re not supposed to support warez on this site. <_< COUGH
When it comes to theatrical releases, I would LOVE to pay to see a movie in theaters. I don’t mind the cost, because the whole experience is definately worth it. But when it takes months for a movie to release here compared to it’s official release (Up took about 5 months, for example), I get frustrated…
There’s nothing(I’m being serious right now) I enjoy as much as seeing a new, preferably animated film in the theater. I’ve only seen one movie illegally, and it was Shrek the 3rd, which I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise(I almost wish I hadn’t.) I was just throwing ideas around.
Just listened to the soundtrack, it’s not bad, gives me a little hope for the movie. Most of the action/antics parts are a bit obnoxious to me, but there were some really good peaceful tracks like Giant Blue Head, Rejection in the Rain, and Roxanne’s theme. Gives me a little hope for the movie, though I have heard a lot of mixed opinions about it so far from critics and Twitter people (apparently, there was an advanced screening recently).
I must say, having seen the trailers several times by now, there are several parts I like:
The opening narration in the longer trailer. “I had a fairly standard childhood.” Priceless.
The bit with Megamind dancing down the street while fish-head guy (do we have a name for him yet?) carries a ghetto blaster that’s pumping out some pretty cool tunes. If nothing else, Megamind (the character) has got some style.
During my most recent viewing of the trailer, noticing that fish-head guy (or just fish, as he was then) was actually in the capsule with Megamind. I sense a potential crowning moment of heartwarming in this relationship, if Dreamworks can truly stop being… well… Dreamworks.
I’ll probably buy the DVD at least, though I doubt I’ll get around to seeing it in cinemas, as I expect to be watching the new Harry Potter movie multiple times.

He’s called Minion. Which is a little similar to the walking Homer Simpson heads in Despicable Me, if you ask me.
I really hope they flesh out the relationships among the characters here, because there’s a lot of comic potential for the love-hate and friendly-rivalry kinds, which I find most interesting, by the way.
My [url=http://www.imax.com.au/films/film.asp?id=92:30bl9pxa]local IMAX[/url:30bl9pxa] just announced it’ll be released on Boxing Day for Down Under. To paraphrase Megamind, "You’re kidding, right?"
It’s a bank holiday, I believe. They celebrate it in Canada, the UK, and other Commonwealth nations. I know that the name isn’t about the sport boxing, but because when the holiday started it dealt with servent’s boxes and donation boxes.
I have plans to see Megamind on opening day. My friend and I have been planning to see a movie Friday Night because we have an event the next morning, so this is the one we choose!
MINION!!! I loved him. He stole the whole show IMO. He was funny and such a great friend to Megamind. Wished that the movie focused on their relationship a little bit more because I loved their onscreen chemistry when they interact.
cough Roxanne and Megamind were a pretty cute couple. I’M SORRY! Don’t hurt me But there were 3 stages when you saw them kiss: 0_0 xD :B And I like how their relationship slowly developed instead of rushing through it. Though some may think otherwise
I don’t know about you but all the characters were strangely likable. Metroman especially. I expected to hate this guy. But, no, I liked him and Titan.
Downsides
Cut back on the pop music. PLEASE! Let Hans Zimmer do his thing and stop with all this Michael Jackson. (Although, I have to admit, I did like Highway to Hell in this)
There were so many flat jokes. So… many…
The climax just… sucks. I’m sorry. I expected so much more.
The pacing was weird. It was, like, one part they focus here and the next part, they totally focus on another point. And it’s confusing.
I recommend that you catch this on DVD instead but seeing in the cinemas wouldn’t be painful. Though i have to admit, it’s been the 5th Dreamworks movie in a row when I thought the [spoil] character died[/spoil]. Dang it.
So, it’s no How To Train Your Dragon but if you like, say, Madagascar, you might enjoy this.
I saw the regular version because it was cheaper, so I don’t know how the 3D was.
Anyway, I liked it. Pretty funny stuff, I thought the score was good. The story was decent, but I did really like the voices. I was suprised to see that Ben Stiller was in it! He had three lines, and I didn’t notice until the credits .But Ben Stiller’s crazy awesome.
Anyways, not my favorite animated film I saw this year (TS3, HTTYD, and DM were way bettter IMO) but this is still a fun movie to see, especially with the kiddies.
Needless to say, my friend and I were the oldest ones in the theater who weren’t parents!
Interesting to see members’ comments match my expectations. I also sort of pitched it in the ballpark of above-average with Monsters vs Aliens and Madagascar for my anticipation level, so it’s good to know it’s just about right.
Anyway, for folks who have yet to see it, there’s some nice clips on the official Dreamworks Youtube channel and ClevverMovies that should give you a better idea of the film’s quality. Personally, I’m looking forward to Minion’s character. My favourite promos is the faux-political ad (one of the brilliant pieces of viral marketing next to Tangled’s recent ‘educational video’ on Grounded for Life), the Heroic Turn Featurette and the Behind the Scenes Featurette. Strangely though, Brad Pitt was not interviewed for any of the promos, even though he’s headlining the posters as one of the star cast members.
I also had a look at the Singapore papers in the library today and it’ll premiere next week! Aaand I have a leaflet I took from the IMAX theatres when I went for my second viewing of LOTG which confirms the Boxing Day release date in Oz.
I’m really on the fence about seeing this. I’ve heard a ton of good stuff from animators and artists, but some critics are beating it down or saying it’s really bland. Also, there’s the dreaded [spoil]dance party[/spoil] at the end, which is really putting me off.
MegaMInd was a little better than I thought it would be. It gets a solid B, and it is worth seeing.
Bryko: The dance sequence at the end of the film is somewhat embarrassing to sit through and if you want to know the song it’s: Bad by Michael Jackson.
