Megamind

I see your point.

Anyway, I would have nuch rather seen this movie than HP7. I begged my parents to take me to see either this or Tangled, but oh well. I hated the HP movie…

Well, the poster got a laugh out of me. I don’t think they’re trying to rip off Pixar, but I think it’s more as a light-hearted parody. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mmmm, well I’m going to see both at some stage, when MM is release here at any rate (I will also be seeing HP7 at some stage). There’s also the possibility we’ll go in our costumes to see HP7 in our case- I was a Death Eater at a recent costume party since the theme was HP, mainly because it was easier to go as that then try to go as a student. I got a dark cloak and everything for it and just used a black scarf as a make shift hood. Apparently one of the Snapes had been wandering around the university for days in his costume. Which is fairly awesome.

My home-made mask kind of scared some people in the street that night though. And when I first showed my costume off I absolutely terrified my friend and flatmate as the door was open. I just bought a plain white mask and then drew all over it and smudged in places, making it sort of look like an old worn skull of some old victim with decorative markings (It wasn’t accurate but I did my best). Some people did swear when we were coming round the corner as we walked to the party and they weren’t expecting me. So I think it was fairly effective. Though I think the scariness factor definatly wears off when I laugh.

I’m slightly worried about scaring very young children at the cinema if I wear it though… apparently it looks really creepy especially in dark places.

In any case I’m looking forward to MM when it comes out here in the UK.

Gee willykins, all these posters remind me of this song.

I’m gonna try watch Megamind tomorrow, BTW. Re-vange is sweet!

Sorta O/T: Yeah, HTTYD confirms it: [url]- YouTube But you’re cool in my eyes Hiccup <3

I’m taking a break from the Tangled hype for a while and watching this next weekend. The trailer I saw for it was off-putting for me, but I’m willing to give it a chance anyway. It might even turn out to be good.

I was just watching a featurette-type thing on Facebook (I’m a fan of Megamind :stuck_out_tongue:) and they were talking about how Metro City was the largest set they have had to work with so far… Makes me wonder if it is larger than Pixar’s biggest set, which, from what I’ve heard, is the city on WALL-E.

Stupid rambling, I know… but it just kinda crossed my mind. :unamused:

And I think you should go see it, Danachii. I really, really want to see it again, but I don’t want to use up my money too fast, and no one else wants to pay for it. I need to get back in the MM spirit if I wanna finish my drawings!

It’s not stupid rambling Daughter of Eve, thanks for that trivia! I’m a Megamind fan, but I don’t think it’s facebook official yet! I’ll go fan it right now…

Danachii: Funnily enough, I have already seen Megamind today, and I’m planning to watch Tangled this weekend/next week. It’s worth a watch, it is a very charming movie, and another winner from Dreamworks (better than Shrek 4, but not as good as HTTYD).

Daughter of Eve: I love the aerial shots of Metrocity, it did look like a pretty massive set! :open_mouth: I’m amazed it was bigger than, say, the isles of Berk or Faraway Land, though I wouldn’t find that too hard to believe. The special effects (explosions, breaking windows, etc.) were pretty impressive too.

So I just watched it today, and I’ll post a lengthier review later, but needless to say, I really enjoyed it in the same league as Despicable Me. Worth a matinee, at least.

As much as Tangled is a really good movie, I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy Megamind a lot more because I never did spoil any of the scenes for myself prior to the film’s release like I did with Tangled. Plus I learned to never trust bad marketing anyway because it’ll most likely ruin a movie experience for me, so from now on if I see a movie that has a lot of potential, I’ll give it a chance.

Judging for what I’ve seen, I guess the Cars 2 sets will be huge. And there will be more than five major cities, so I think we’ll be watching something amazing in visual terms.

I really want to see this. Wish I could. :frowning:

You will someday! What I usually do if I can’t afford to see a movie (which is all the time), is when it comes out I rent it from RedBox at a grocery store, only $1! Do you have those where you live?

Yes we have Redbox, but my mom doesn’t have a credit card, However, FoodCity(local grocery mart) has $1 rentals as well, so that’s what I’ll do. ^Thanks for reminding me of that.

The Art of Megamind - another informative art book. onemoviefiveviews.wordpress.com/ … -megamind/

We didn’t officially review this title on OM,FV but I saw it and really enjoyed it. I sort of put my thoughts in my book review though.

Megamind is certainly not as good as HTTYD for example, but it is one of Dreamworks’ better outings, and worth seeing. I really liked the characters, and the story - although predictable - was well told.

I saw Megamind today! (I’m in the Uk for those who don’t know, it might have left US theatres I think.)

Just what the docter ordered. In fact, I’d been feeling a bit down that day for various reasons (sleep deprivation on top of some other things) and it really cheered me up, a fun and touching film which I’d heartily recommend to anyone! Even though I’d been eager to see it, since I’d heard great things from people online and off, I wasn’t entirely enthusiatic that day and was even wondering if I would be disappointed (the doubts as ever creep in).

I wasn’t disappointed. In fact I shall preform an act of blasphemy and say I think I enjoyed it more than HTTYD. I’m sure the vast majority of people here even if they really like both probably prefer HTTYD, but I think this movie may have edged ahead for me! It was glorious good fun and pulled me out of my funk today. Of course additional other things helped, but that added to the optimism MM brought in some form- and that even if you think you might fail, you have to at least try!

Of course HTTYD is still wonderful and I think people will continue to say it’s better than MM, but this is just for me personally. I think Megamind maintains something which feels like Dreamworks completely but ultimately works remarkably well and wonderfully. I loved it.

I may have found a new fandom to play in too! I never actually did for HTTYD much as I loved it too, but I think this might be different.

I saw this yesterday with a friend of mine. Geesh, it’s not an epic movie, but it succeeds in it’s primary purpose: BEING FUNNY! It’s your typical Dreamworks kind of humor, but not in a disturbing way. Heck, even the pop-culture references were funny. It just worked!

And really, how can there be no pop-culture references in an urban, modern-day city like Metropolis.

This movie was everything I expected it to be. It’s not 2010’s best animation, and I don’t even think that’s what they were trying to achieve, but it has a great sense of humor and I laughed out loud quite a few times. Great job, Dreamworks.

I really like your review, it’s virtually how I feel about the movie!

While I felt it never quite reached the heights (pun intended) of HTTYD, it still ranks among my Top Ten this year. I think it’s good fun, and not as cynical as other Dreamworks movies like Shrek or Shark Tale. The spirit is more in vein of say Kung Fu Panda.

And I couldn’t remember any pop-culture references. I guess that’s another reason it works, the jokes are satirising timeless tropes in its genre (the hero and villain’s extraterrestial origins, the damsel in distress, high-stakes city-destroying climax), just like how KFP spoofed kung-fu/wuxia epics.

No silly time/cultural/geographic-specific references like Shrek did by lampooning Disney, Beverly Hills, King Arthur, pay-TV ads, etc.

I did notice some, but I can’t quite recall them right now. Heck, I can’t even remember most of the parts that made me laugh out loud, because there simply were A LOT. :stuck_out_tongue:

Either way, it’s a good movie, let’s just keep it at that.
