Okay,I was bored so I went into the memberlist to see who has the most posts. After that, just out of curiosity,I decided to see how many members haven’t posted at all.
We have 100 members who haven’t posted anything.
I have a feeling that this is probably what caused the ‘down time’ a little while back. Should we do something about it? I would wait about a month after the person has joined, and if they haven’t done a thing, they’d get a private message telling them that if they don’t post something will happen. But I don’t have control over the boards and all that,so I think I’ll let the mods/admins decide what to do about this.
I’ll be sooo embarassed if this isn’t an issue, and I’m apologizing now if that’s the case.
No appologies neccessary but it’s really not an issue. The downtime about a month and a half ago was caused by the number of people viewing the site, member or not which doesn’t change regardless of how many members we have. We’ve rectified the problem by increasing our bandwidth as it is called to 1000Gb per month as opposed to just 12 - an increase of approximately 8333%. Needless to say it will be a VERY long time before we ever have that kind of trouble again.
As for the members who’ve never posted or only posted a time or two, I let them stay on in case they want to come back or use the account to “lurk” meaning they don’t post but have an account so they can easily find new posts since their last visit. We may some day do a member dump just to free up space and names but there’s really no need for it at the moment and as long as they’re all there we have an accurate count of how many people have ever shown interest in Pixar Planet.
Yeah that’s just a thing that happens with boards like these. There’s lots in my other forum that for whatever reason just dont post. Or they post once or twice. and there’s more who post a lot in the beginning but again, for whatever reason, they just stop.
AnnoyingPerson95: MY guess why people stop posting/coming here is because the forget all about it, they don’t like it, they just join in for a “game”, they don’t care, the list can go on and on.
every forum has a bunch of registered users who haven’t ever posted - some of them forget to come back, some register just to check it out and see if they like it - etc, etc
The only thing worse than members who hardly ever post, are the ones that post - but only in their “fan art/graphics” threads, and nothing else. I mean, if the only thing you are coming to Pixar Planet for is feedback on your art, go and sign up to Deviant Art.
I guess a lot of people probably do want to have a lurk around, and some other people don’t post for whatever reasons they have. The only thing that bothers me is that we seem to have birthday threads for members that obviously aren’t active, but meh, apart from that, it doesn’t seem to cause much bother at all.
Maybe the “lurking” posters are Pixar Animation Studios employees…? I don’t see why they would want to join if they weren’t going to post, though. Then again, anything (well, almost anything) is possible… (snigger)
I’m pretty sure people from Pixar visit here a lot. Let’s say even if only about 5% of Pixarians actually signed up, and the rest just lurked - that’s still a lot of Pixarian activity! They probably wouldn’t be able to identify themselves as someone from Pixar, and then go ahead and make lots of posts, in case they get themselves in hot water.
It’s a bit hard to tell, though, if they don’t put their location or occupation, but sometimes they put “Emeryville” just so we know where they are from So that’s nice of them. Some Pixarians I have messaged have been super-nice, though.
