Note: It was not I, but my mom who drew this piece!!!
I just thought that you guys might like to see what my mom’s drawing style looks like. I’ve actually posted up artwork of hers before in this thread, but I haven’t done so in a long while. Since I’ve recently taken a liking to Russell, I asked her to draw that character, and the result was so darn cute that I had to post it up.
One of these days, I’ll be able to draw like that. I will!! ![]()

Wow, your mom is really, really good. I see where you get your artistic abilities from. Wonderful job Mitch.
With little posts of members from the Up Cast…Mitch I might just have my intrest in the movie sustained for the 6 month delay between the US and UK releases… Keep Them Coming Please
The picture is Cool, some awesome line work… Kind of Makes Me Jealous too…
Your mum has got Russell spot on, Mitch! Her lineart is so smooth and stylish, and the expression on his face is adorable. And I have to say, her artwork definitely reminds me of your own! ![]()
Great artwork on the Puma Impressionist, Mitch! There is nothing to dislike there.
And your mom’s artwork is really good as well! That’s a smooth and neat sketch. It’s nice to see who you get your artistic vision from! ![]()
Thank you very much, everyone, for the comments on both my and my mom’s artwork! I’ll let my mom know that you appreciate her style. Heheh. ![]()
Captain Pan - Don’t worry, I definitely won’t stop drawing various characters from Up, particularly Russell. Keep in mind, however, that you may not see any artwork from me for some time, as I’m currently suffering from a major art block. No problem, though. I’ll get back into sketching soon enough! ![]()

Wow, that is cool! Russell looks so Disney-fied! Does your mum take requests? ![]()
Rachel - Ha-ha! Well, my mom used to work for Don Bluth, so perhaps that’s why Russell looks so “Disney-esque”. She does have her own, unique style when she composes original sketches, though…
Ha! She’ll help me draw anything that I need help with, but I’m sure she wouldn’t mind taking a request or two. What do you have in mind? ![]()
– Mitch
If she does take requests Mitch, you probably can guess what I am going to ask from her. ![]()
The Star Swordsman - Heheh. I imagine that you would prefer to have a Violet drawing, no? If so, then I suppose I could ask my mom to draw her. ![]()
I know, I know. I should probably quit drawing Russell and move on to another character/subject, but I really am obsessed with the kid, which is kind of a good thing in itself, since I generally despise drawing humans – now I’ve been sketching them more often, since I want to get Russell’s anatomy down correctly. So, thanks goes to Pixar for inspiring me to draw humans… finally.
Unless I can draw a better version of Russell (which I can), I’m going to color this image (above) as if it were a cell.
By the way, my mom drew Russell’s shoes here since I… couldn’t do it. Eheh.

Aww, Russell looks especially adorable in this one, Mitch! I like the folds in his clothes and his general roundness, plus the lovely fluffy hair you’ve given him. I think this one will look great coloured in, I look forward to seeing it!
lizardgirl - Thanks! Although, looking back on it I can see that it stinks like yesterday’s diapers, so I’m going to keep drawing Russell in various poses until I nail his design and anatomy. Once I draw one that I like… I’ll color it.

I love the Russell picture Mitch. He looks so neeat and proper and cute.
Actually, a VIolet one is great, but any TI character would work for me.
Lovable and well drawn sketch! You’ve got the details on him done neatly. Great work.
Wow, that’s a lot of artwork I’ve missed lately!
I adore the Wall-E doodles naturally, they look pretty, or should I say, PR-T. I like “Wall-E Crossword” and “Keep It Clean!” I find I draw pretty good scribbles when I’m bored too.
The drawing of Dug licking Russell, that’s so cute!
To be honest, I preferred your “Puma impressionist” drawing of Russell compared to your first (the one with the head poses) and latest one (Russell twiddling his thumbs). To me, that was the one that looked the most ‘natural’ and ‘flowy’, with the strongest pose (him cupping his hand to his mouth while shouting) to boot. That’s just my honest opinion. Not to say the other two weren’t good, they’re okay, but the second’s my fave. And don’t be too hard on yourself, nothing a little practice can’t fix. ![]()
Oh, and I love your mum’s drawing. I see artistic talent runs in the family, heh.
The Star Swordsman - Thanks! ![]()
All right. I’ll ask my mom if she doesn’t mind drawing Violet. (heheh)
bright dot-dasher - Thank you very much!
thedriveintheatre - Many thanks! Ha-ha. “PR-T”. ![]()
Ha! You noticed the WALL•E crossword puzzle? That’s cute. I wasn’t sure if anyone would see it, as it’s rather diminutive.
I completely agree with you here. Looking back at my Russell drawings, I hate them all, with the exception of the “Puma” one. Practice is definitely in order.
On behalf of my mom, thanks! I’ll let her know that you like it.
Once again, thank you for the kind comments and helpful critique! ![]()

I can’t wait for it Mitch. And you are welcome.
If it wasn’t for Pixar, I wouldn’t be staying up until 11:00 PM drawing their characters. ![]()
References were used for all three of these sketches.

Some awesome pictures of Russell there Mitch, and the linework is awesome, and the expressions so vivid!
I wish I could draw some of the Pixar Characters in the same way as many of you guys do! They look effortless and outstanding and have an individual stamp of the artist on them!
I say the exact same thing with Disney in General, but then I get bored on sleepless nights and will sketch until 3 am…
Great Artwork Mitch!
