No reaction to Slumdog Millionaire? I’m surprised!
Well, I saw a trailer for it in the cinema the other day, and it looked a bit annoying to me. Is Chris Tarrant actually in it at any point? He’d better not be. It looks like a sweet film, but just a bit…I dunno. I’m just not very keen on the concept. I might see it in the cinema, depending on what else is out when it’s released.
Bill- A fourth one? Oh noes!
No! It’s a great movie! Go see it! Don’t think twice.
Slumdog Millionaire is the best film of the decade.
Mreh, I don’t think it will be (in my opinion) but I’ll see it and then finalise my opinion. Each to their own, I guess. I think it comes out on the 9th of January here, so I’ll probably see it sometime around then. I do like the director Danny Boyle, though- he’s made three of my favourite films of all time, in particular, 28 Days Later. Just so good.
Recently, I saw Australia (due to the fact that I had to review it for my school newspaper), and it’s a fair film, though not a great one, and certainly won’t be a classic, I don’t think. Clocking in at 2 hours, 45 min., the film drags in regards to certain scenes. I fell asleep twice in the theater. So, not the best film I’ve seen recently, but it was okay.
I just saw Doubt, and I think it’s the fourth best film of 2008, and the best female acting of the year, especially for Viola Davis. Four and a half out of five stars: A -. Nowhere near as great as the year’s best film: Slumdog Millionaire.
My top ten of 2008:
- Slumdog Millionaire
- Gran Torino
- Wall-E
- Doubt
- The Dark Knight
- Frost/Nixon
- The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
- Son of Rambow
- Encounters at the End of the World
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Good top ten list TS2.
Out of those, I have only seen Slumdog Millionaire, The Dark Knight, and WALL•E. I hope to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button soon, and all of the other ones are movies that I think look really good too. Not sure what my top ten list would be, since the majority of the November, and December films, (many of which got great reviews), I have yet to see.
Anyway, good list. I definitely agree, Slumdog Millionaire was amazingly well done, as were The Dark Knight and WALL•E. As for Slumdog Millionaire, it looks like it could easily have the potential for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, but we shall just have to wait and see…
The list has changed somewhat because I watched two films I hadn’t seen before this week:
My top ten of 2008:
1. Slumdog Millionaire
2. Gran Torino
3. Wall-E
4. The Fall
5. Doubt
6. The Dark Knight
7. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
8. Son of Rambow
9. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
10. The Visitor
That’s a good list TS2. Slumdog Millionaire is a great film, and could easily win Best Picture.
Thank you, R2-D2. You know, an interesting thing about it is that, out of all the smaller awards shows that have already happened, Slumdog has had the most wins for Best Picture, leaving its competitors in the dust… you ready?
Drumroll please…
It’s won Best Picture 16 times!
And people still say it’s an underdog? If they’d look at the facts, they’d know it’s more than a shoo-in to win. It’ll most likely win, at least at the ‘Globes.’
Does anybody remember Without a Paddle from 2004? I loved it and I just saw a commercial for the sequel Without a Paddle: Nature’s Calling, but it doesn’t look as good as the original.
I just watched Hamlet 2 for the first time last night. It was … ehh … alright. I think anyone would only enjoy it if they were a huge fan of Steve Coogan, which I am. And Catherine Keener was good while she was there. And I like Amy Poehler. Otherwise … the acting on the teens’ part was pretty bad, IMO.
I’m going to watch Burn After Reading tonight if I can manage to snatch it from my parents’ bedroom. I’m only watching that for Malkovich.
Recently, I ventured to immerse myself in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I went in with lukewarm expectations, and came out pleasantly surprised. In a nutshell, it was the most interesting film I have ever seen – I would tenderly describe it as poetic more than anything else. Despite its length, which almost tips the scale at 2 hrs. and 47 mins., I was not in the least bit fatigued. Overall, I would give it a 9 out of 10 stars.
Awesome!! It’s about time it was released. I like the trailer that my sister and I saw at the Comic-Con last year more though; it was more mysterious and… dramatic, in my humble opinion. Still, this new one is pretty dang awesome. I still haven’t seen the Terminator trilogy all the way through, but I just might do so so as to be on the up-and-up before the release of the fourth installment.
Thanks for the link, Bill!

I just watched High Tension the other day, free on demand, but it’s gory and violent. I only watched it for Cecile de France, and had to look away several times. Overall a good film besides, even though I didn’t appreciate the twist near the end.
Just watched a Disney classic today, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White is probably the most gullible Disney character, however, the movie’s still something amazing to cherish, because it was Disney’s first full-length animated feature. It made me feel like a little kid again, watching it without a care in the world!
(P.S. If there were a happy tears smiley, I’d use it right now!)
I just watched The Queen last night. And I am now officially a Helen Mirren fan. x) Can’t wait for her performance in Inkheart!
I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and I thought it was great! One of the best movies I’ve seen in 2008.
The Queen rules!
It definitely should have won Best Picture over The Departed.
I just watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame…and I’m almost speechless. It’s been so long since I’ve seen it, but there were so many memories that came back to me. It is definitely my favorite Disney movie OF ALL TIME. (Not counting Pixar films. )
There was one part that always gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes. It is near the end of the beginning scene, when the jester guy starts singing about the bells, and soon after the name of the movie is displayed…It’s just amazing. I have goosebumps just thinking about it. XD
Here’s a link to the scene I was talking about, although it’s later in the clip.
