Watched Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It was good, but some of the scenes were longer than they really should have been. And the transistions…worst I’ve seen. With something that’s got such a great, epic story, the Microsoft movie editor-ish transistion effects just killed it for me.
Also, very excited for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. From what I’ve seen from the trailers, I don’t think they’ve screwed up (anything major) from the book. July 15, woot woot.
I’m glad M. Night’s doing it, but I think it would have been better as an animated film. Anyways, that’s just me, I loved the series beginning-to-end, and personally I like the fact that the film looks scary. Maybe people will start treating the show with the RESPECT THAT’S DUE!!!
Also, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced earlier today that the usual number of nominees for Best Picture will be TEN instead of five from now on!!! I’m excited for this news becuase that means that films like Star Trek, Up, Away We Go, and quite possibly even Where the Wild Things Are could be serious contenders as nominees in this top category or at least considered more thoroughly and not just glossed over. The bigwigs said that they want to give all genres an equal chance. So… Drag Me To Hell could be a Best Picture nom. Huh? (jk). (I’d really like to see at least one horror flick be nominated.)
But seriously, that’s awesome that they’ve finally realized that drama is not the only film genre in existence.
Yeah, but with the increased amount of nominees, that might also mean that those who don’t deserve the nomination might get nominated just to fill out the spacing. It’s a rather dumb idea, in my opinion, but it’s definitely great that the Horror genre has been recognized by the Academy, along with other casual movies that are still equally great and up to standards - especially the Superhero movies.
Personally, I don’t really care. Even if the crappy movies get nominated, the Academy is smart enough to choose a good one to win the award.
Oh, and that’s old news, TS2; I’ve already posted about that in the previous page.
No, I’m not saying it’s an obvious threat; I’m saying it’s a warning sign. There’s a slim chance that a movie, maybe having a quality that is not so good, will be nominated is existent. Slim, but existing.
lol I posted about the increased nomination hours ago.
Off-topic: Is a moderator italizing the titles of movies, books, etc.on everyone’s posts? Because I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t italicize something unless it were formal or a school assignment. Or maybe it’s all in my head?
Dude, no way. They are seriously considering 10 nominees? =0
They are. That can be good or bad. We’ll see. The Oscars are a joke today anyways.
As for The Phantom Menace, I find it boring. The next two of the dgital trilogy had some cool ideas in theam at least.
By the way, am I the only who feels the problem with the Jar Jar character is that he is useless to the plot and not what they usually say, “it’s a dumb character”?
PS: Yeah, a moderator is italizing titles, so I’m starting to do it myself.
Oh, I beg to differ, TS2. The Academy are very trustworthy, but their choice of films for nominations are kinda… distasteful at times. I mean, come on, The Dark Knight deserved at the least a nomination for Best Picture. I know it’s not a perfect film, but everyone’s so busying whining about its bad points and don’t focus on its Oscar worthy aspects. It’s a little annoying at best.
The only time I was really angered last year w/the Academy was when I heard that the highly overated The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was nominated for 13 awards and won best makeup. TDK should have won best makeup.
I didn’t know the moderators enforced proper grammar here.
Totally agree about Jar Jar, he is a “dumb” character. I couldn’t understand what he was saying most of the time, so I had to turn on subtitles (and he still didn’t make sense). “Woah yousta!? Mesta Jar Jar!” “How wude!”.
Luke - Schindler’s List. Everybody should watch it at least once in their lifetime. Was crying all over the place at the end.
While the Academy does pick worthy films to be considered for Oscar nominations, I will say that they do have a tendency to overlook films that ar just as (if not more) deserving than others. For example, last year, I won’t disagree with Slumdog winning a lot, but I was disappointed that WALL-E didn’t make the cut for Best Picture or TDK winning a single one (I don’t remember if it did or not)
Another note: I saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I thought it was awesome. For a more detailed explaination, look up the Tansformers: Revenge of the Fallen thread.
Even though this is kind of a stupid question do you think they will keep the best animated award because they are expanding the best picture award to 10 noms? I doubt it but just wondering. Also, if Up is nominated for a best picture award do you think it has a chance of winning best animated? One more thing. TS3 has a large chance of winning next year.
