Saw another couple of movies this afternoon. Here are my thoughts:

The X-Files: I Want to Believe - Why, why, why??? Why would you make an X-Files movie not dealing with the conspiracy storyline? EDTV

One Missed Call - By the ‘J-Horror book’ haunted technology scares. Better than recent snooze alarms like Shutter, but, it’s no Ringu. RW

In other news, another Moviepocalypse update - An American Werewolf in London remake:

So it’d be good for once. The ever increasing conspiracy nonsense is why I stopped watching the show.

I saw Transformes: Revenge of the Fallen.
It was, alright. I just wish they kept both Optimus AND Sam dead. Actually, kill Sam, I want Optimus alive! Some parts were lame, some parts were AWESOME! So I give it a: 8/10

TAMATER: Dragonball Evolution is better than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? I haven’t seen Dragonball yet, but seriously? The trailer made it look like an amateur high-school film project compared to TF’s jaw-dropping special effects. The plots can’t be compared, anyway, they’re both crappy, I must admit.

annaborjack: I would advise you to spoiler tag those sentences, for the benefit of any TF fans who haven’t watched the sequel yet. But I must agree, it would be much more interesting if [spoil]Shia perished and Optimus lived.[/spoil] Optimus is way too awesome for petty things like [spoil]dying[/spoil]!

Here’s my review if anyone’s interested to hear what I think of it. But if I were to sum it up in a single quote, it would be this:

If you come in expecting Oscar-bait themes like poor slumdogs or Nazi soldiers, or a plotline from the animated series it was based on, or any form of “Hm… that is thought-provoking” mental stimulation, I’m sorry to say, but you will be sorely disappointed. If you entered though, expecting big, dumb, stupid summer event action, light-hearted though sometimes puerile humour, and some of the most gobsmacking special effects you’ll ever see, period, this is the ticket for you.

Oh, and I gave it 3.5/5 stars, by the way. Above average.

I think I’ll be watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine next, followed by Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Do you find a lot of movies nowadays have colons in their titles?

I find that movies with colons in the titles are just hiding something.

I’d agree about the expectations for TF2 except that I enjoyed the first one for what it was and thought the second one wasn’t able to even deliver stupid action worth any enjoyment.

Watched Taken. Good action film! Car chases and fights were awesome. Althought I had a huge problem with two things. One, why is it that everytime Liam touches somebody in a fight, they immediately fall down unconscious/dead? =P Two, what the heck is up with the ending? [spoil]Oh daddy! Ur so awesum, u killed like fifty ppl just to find me!? And shum singing lessons? Kewl! kthxbai.[/spoil] Really, WTH?

Yeah. I’ve wrote about that in my partially (more like barely) done Terminator 2 review. Here’s the quote:

Just a quick example, I watched Taken the other day, which is an action version of a couple of older movies, especially similar to that '70s movie starring George C. Scott and directed by Paul Schrader titled Hardcore, where (I don’t want to ruin it for those who have not seen Taken) [spoil]the main character’s daughter goes missing and she enters the world of pornography.[/spoil] The main character’s this conservative Western guy and no one wants to help him find her, so he hires some private eye. He eventually goes on a search for her later on. Then, a version of Hardcore in the late '90s would be Joel Schumacher’s 8mm starring Nicholas Cage, which is, not really a horror version, but just kind of a grittier and dirtier version. Nicolas Cage played this private eye who tries to find out if a snuff film is the real deal or is fictional. Basically, these films have the whole notion of the characters getting involve with the s** trade. Most recently, there’s also Trade which is a dramatic version of Taken, which is a kick-your-butt, Jason Bourne action version of Hardcore and 8mm.

In Taken, we don’t get those poematic moments where we get what Liam Neeson’s character is feeling. There are some flashbacks to his daughter and all, but we don’t know how all the characters click. or what makes them tick. Inside, we don’t know what’s propelling them or how this horrible situation is changing them, especially with the daughter and his wife. His wife is with this new rich guy and is very lenient about her daughter’s actions, while the daughter, who seems to have an entitlement to her, is just getting comfortable with her new father’s riches and just want to kinda have fun. The main point is that the experience doesn’t change the characters. If you haven’t watched it, just go ahead and you will find yourself wondering about how the horrible experience affected the family.

TDIT: Yup. I grew up on Dragonball, even though that was an awful movie.

I’d also like to add Street Fighter to the list. No offense, TSS.

I just saw Garfield Gets Real, and Garfield’s Fun Fest. They’re really only good though if you’re a Garfield fan. They are well written though by Jim Davis.
