Virginia, I agree with every review you just posted. Avatar was awesome, but not that awesome, Kung Fu Panda was amazing, Alice in Wonderland was a letdown, but still okay, and Planet 51 was total crap.
Oh, I saw Eagle Eye yesterday. It was better than I thought it would be, actually.
The Secret Life of Bees (8/10) - It’s a bit hard on the tearducts at times, but with lots of honey and The Holy Virgin Mary playing a big part, I can’t help but love this sweet film.
The International (5/10) - A decent action-thriller, but with a thoroughly depressing ending - several minus points for that.
Coming up, The Haunted Mansion, Daredevil, and National Treasure.
There is recent news that Guillermo del Toro’s next project is a remake of The Haunted Mansion, will NOT be a comedy, and will be under Disney’s Double Dare You label.
Madagascar - Not quite as awful as I remember. It was charming and was entertaining enough. GRADE: C
The Secret of Kells - Stunning visual style, somewhat captivating mythology, but it ended up being a little forgettable in the end. I’d watch it a few more times just for the eye candy, however. GRADE: B
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - Still not as good as the first, but not really any better/worse than the sequel. GRADE: C+
A lot of critics said that National Treasure was too unrealistic and cheesy, but so is Raiders of the Lost Ark, one of the most acclaimed films ever! Plus Steven Spielberg actually wantedRaiders to be cheesy and matinee-movie-like.
Coming Soon: National Treasure: Book of Secrets Happily N’Ever After Daredevil
Once (6/10) - I can understand why some people regard it as one of the best film of recent years. The acting was splendid, but it has little plot to speak of, and the music simply wasn’t my cup of tea, which did not exactly help if like 80% of the film consists of songs.
I watched Chicago today, very enjoyable movie. I just can’t get "Cellblock Tango’ out of my head. However, even though I liked the movie, I don’t think it was anywhere near good enough to have beaten Two Towers or Gangs of New York for the Best Picture Oscar.
I just saw Peter Pan again the other day. It’s definitely my favorite Disney classic, and I think it would have been my absolute favorite movie back when it first came out.
I just saw Cool Hand Luke for the first time, and it was awesome. I have to admit I only saw it for the Toy Story 3 references, but it’s so much more to that. Such an amzing film with a sad ending. Paul Newman is awesome! 9/10
Next up is The Great Escape, Escape from Alcatraz, and The Shawshank Redemption. You can say I’m having a “Toy Story 3/prison-escape inspiration movie marathon”?
I love Cool Hand Luke so much. It is one of the only movies I ever bought for my iPod, and it is such an amazing classic! Escape From Alcatraz is also really good. I’ve seen it twice; sort of just stumbled upon it both times on TV. Yay, Clint Eastwood! Yay, prison movies!
Agreed, Cool Hand Luke is awesome.
“What we have here is, a failure to communicate!” - Yeah, okay. Jerk.
I watched A Little Princess today…very sad movie. Well, the middle, anyway. The beginning and end are okay. I didn’t know the book was written by the same lady who wrote The Secret Garden!
The impossible has occured, my friends; I have a new second favorite film (considering the fact that WALL-E is perfect to me, and will never be beaten). Toy Story 3 is no more, as my new second favorite film is…Brazil!
No, it was the newer one, although I wouldn’t mind seeing the older one, too. I haven’t read the book (I heard the ending is a lot different), but I have read The Secret Garden. Haven’t seen the movie, though. I do own it, however, so I’ll probably watch it soon. I bought the two movies together in a combo pack.
I watched Yes Man today, it was acually better than I thought it’d be. No masterpiece of course, but it had some good laughs. Especially the “I think he’s dead” scene.
