Oh, I would love to conserve our Earth, and I loved that about Wall*E. I meant Athiesm, abortion, and everything that makes me miserable. Iv’e gone green, and that really is important to me. I just don’t like James Cameron or his idealogical Athiest points.
Actually, Mr Cameron is very anti-technology in his films, and often tends to emphasize the triumph of the human spirit and female empowerment, if anything. And Avatar is really more about Paganism (which itself is a poly-theistic religion, it emphasizes worship of Nature and spiritual dieties) than Atheism.
But don’t let religion colour your preconception of a film before you see it. If I let that sort of close-mindedness get to me, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy films like Harry Potter (ooh… Witchcraft! ooh…) or The Da Vinci Code (ooh… Mary Magdalene! ooh…).
Though… that didn’t quite stop T.D.V.C. from sucking major eggs.
Seriously, if Avatar is still playing, give it a chance. If the storyline doesn’t blow you away, the visuals will. You won’t regret it.
Um… I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say “The Godfather”, which I have never seen. In fact, most of the movies you guys are mentioning I have never seen (Although, I have seen Twilight 7 times. I love it!).
Lol, wut.
I don’t remember hearing anything Athiestic coming from JC’s mouth. (Though I did just read something about him being one on wiki; not sure if he’s one of those kind of athiests coughricharddawkinscough) Plus, he used like two very chirst-like figures in two of his films (John Connor/Jake Sully), so yeah…
On subject: Any movie with Tom Hanks.
They play Saving Private Ryan, Forest Gump, and Cast Away all the time on TNT.
I would say Avatar, even though I know about 5 people who haven’t seen it.
There is a movie that I wish everyone would see, and that’s Gone With the Wind. It’s a brilliant movie. Unfortunately I know people who wouldn’t want to watch it because it’s “old”. I hate it when people are like that.
I haven’t seen Lord of the Rings or the Godfather.
How about The Lion King? I think most people have seen that movie.
The Toy Story movies. Pixar movies in general, but the Toy Story ones especially. All my friends have seen them. Oh, also, The Dark Knight and Avatar. I like to act shocked when one of my friends say they haven’t seen The Dark Knight.
Wizard of Oz for sure, I’ve seen it hundreds of times, but never beginning to end, I only see it on tv and always get interrupted.
Also, classic Disney films (Mary Poppins, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, etc.)
And quite a few Pixar films, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles and Cars seem to be the most popular with people I know.
I guess I’ll put Star Wars here too, It’s on tv all the time so I’m guessing quite a few people have seen it.
I’ve never seen Titanic, the Godfather, Avatar, the Dark Knight, or any of the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter movies, just to name a few. Yeah, I think I’m cinemagraphically (I’m pretty sure that would be the right word, haha) deprived. Please don’t shoot!
I haven’t seen The Dark Knight.
I think Snow White & The 7 Dwarves, The Lion King and Shrek are very popular.
I’m very ashamed of this, but I haven’t seen Jurrasic Park. I’ve had many opportunities to see it, I have the video and DVD, I don’t know why I haven’t. I might watch it tomorrow night, I know I’ll like it.
Well, I haven’t seen Titanic, Forrest Gump, The Mask, or Twilight (thank God)… but I think mostly everybody has seen:
The Wizard of Oz
The Sound of Music
at least one Star Wars movie
at least one Indiana Jones movie
Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory
Jaws
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Toy Story
Finding Nemo
Gremlins
Back to the Future
The Matrix
E.T.
at least one Harry Potter film
Ghostbusters
Home Alone
The Dark Knight
and, The Lion King
^ I have never seen The Sound of Music, Indiana Jones, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Jaws, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Gremlins, Back to the Future, The Matrix, E.T., Ghostbusters, or The Dark Knight.
I feel sad now…lol
Every single movie on that list is under the “everyone has seen it” category except The Sound of Music.
I’m one of those weird people that just saw the “classic” stuff recently like The Matrix… and The Dark Knight. Our theater is so ridiculously overpriced that even if I’d been particularly interested when it came out, i wouldn’t have been able to see it anyway.
Never seen Avatar, don’t plan to. From what I’ve heard it’s just a cross between Fern Gully and Pocahontas with a couple of twists- a very cliche plot for an environmentalist film. That, and 3D makes me want to throw up. I’m not thrilled by incredible graphics, either. I prefer a nice, solid plotline to flashy things.
But that’s just me. The box office says that a lot of people think differently. XD
Yeah, it was basically Pocahontas in 3D in space.
Most of this list I haven’t seen…except Avatar.
Sorry, I just like to stick to animation and musicals.
Avatar.
Sure, the effects the dazzling, people worked hard on those effects, but it did not belong in the Best Picture category. Similar to what Arkie wrote, films have to go beyond shallow spectale to really earn Best Picture.
Well, yes, the plot was a modern version of Dances with the Wolves, but that is was James Cameron actually intended. If he wanted to make a reinterpretation, that sounds excellent to me. It was the execution I really had a problem with.
Napoleon Dynamite lol very funny
