Transformers is another sure bet. The Dark Knight and Avatar, too. Pretty much any blockbuster in recent years would work (nobody bothers watching the 80s or 90s hits like Alien or Die Hard anymore, at least, the ones I ask).
I thought everyone would have seen The Wizard of Oz, but I knew someone once who actually hadn’t - and didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with that! If I were to make a bet on what one movie had been seen by Practically Everyone, though, that would be it, since it has run on television regularly for so many generations, and it’s kind of “universal” in appeal.
You shouldn’t. Environmental conservation and land ownership rights are not bad values to learn. A lot of people thought Wall-E and Happy Feet had ‘liberal’ stances too, but I enjoyed both films immensely.
I don’t know whether I’ve mentioned this, but I haven’t watched Titanic in its entirety before. I mean, like, there were many opportunities, we still have the VCD, they show it repeatedly on free-to-air, and I still haven’t seen the whole film and yet know its ending. The first time I watched, I quit halfway because it was too boring.
While we’re on the topic of James Cameron, I bet a lot of people would’ve seen the last three Terminator sequels, but not the first. If you haven’t seen the one that started it all, it’s not bad. It’s the ‘grittiest’ of the four, and has a love story to boot. Plus, you get to see Arnie quote that immortal line for the first time!
Wizard of Oz, I’ve seen though. My dad’s a sucker for the ‘SotR’ number.
Would ‘Sound of Music’ make it? How about ‘My Fair Lady’ or ‘The King & I’? Any Roger Hammenstein film is pretty popular with the older generation.
