MTR: Playtime Planet?

I was just watching my Meet The Robinsons DVD today and noticed that when Dorris and Goob(bowler hat guy) hide out, they go to a place called Playtime Planet. Is this a Toy Story reference?

Hmm… I’ve never seen Meet the Robinsons, but it sounds like maybe it could be some kind of Toy Story reference. :sunglasses:

You should!!! Best Disney movie since 2002, though Bolt is cute.

I don’t quite remember much from that movie, what was Playtime Planet? Was it a pizza place?

Pizza Planet = space themed pizza joint/arcade from Toy Story
Playtime Planet = Unicorn and heart themed Ice Cream shop from MTR

I doubt it is a reference to Toy Story. I think it was designed that way to go along with the cutesy unicorn binder Bowler Hat Guy drags around everywhere, as well as to be an outrageous contrast to his description of a ‘villainous lair’. The Pixar/Disney merge took place after production on MTR got started.

Yes, John Lasseter, did have them scrap much of the movie after he screened an early copy after he was named chief creative officer of both Pixar and Disney animation studios, but it seems unlikely he would go in, rip up someones work and then insist they put in a not-so-hidden reference to Pixar’s early works/formative years.

Having played(I like to listen to movies while I work on projects) both MTR and Toy Story 1/2 repeatedly over the last two weeks, I do appreciate that both have dinosaurs with big heads and little arms. Tiny can’t reach Lewis, Rex(Toy Story) can’t reach all the buttons on the game controller when he’s playing the Buzz Lightyear game.

I was just thinking it looked like an in-joke, not saying anything about John Lasseter(though they may have done that to flatter him).
