Unless Remy is weirder than I thought, he is presumably an omnivore in reality, as all rats naturally have a taste for both vegetables (and fruit) and meat. Then again, I could be wrong… as far as Remy’s food preferences go… (snigger)

As far as I remember, he never cooked any meat, even though meat is a big part of French cuisine.
Humans are omnivorous too, that doesn’t mean we have to eat meat, or that everyone enjoys the taste.
Glyph - Yeah, that’s true. However, just because we didn’t see him cook any form of meat in the film doesn’t necessarly imply that he is a vegetarian at heart.
Hmm. Perhaps I can ask a Pixar employee this question the next time I meet one…? ![]()

Remy did seem to like the smell of Lalo’s chicken dish when he was making his escape, though granted, he was sniffing a carrot. Also, sweetbread a la Gusteau did have some meat in it (gutterfish tentacles, anchovy-licorice sauce), though we don’t know if the improvisation contained these ingredients as well-though I doubt the sauce did. Hmm, that’s tricky…
Whoa whoa, hold on a bit people. Wasn’t the second dish Remy cooked have meat in it? Something-tentacle? Not sure if it’s meat…OH! But there IS the veal remember? That was included in, ah now I remember, “Sweet Bread Ala Guesteau”. Veal is meat, and the tentacle bit if I recall.
I think Remy does favor fruits and dairy products but not adverse to other forms. I mean if he’s as talented as we all think, he wouldn’t give up the chance to flavor anything…so long as it isn’t rat meat ^_^;
YAY Nexas! Thank you so much! You are a genius!

Sorry, I just gt back from a Denver vacation, and I’m a bit zonkified, if that’s a word. xD
The veal is most definitely meat, unless that part of the recipe that Remy didn’t follow left out the meat, but I don’t Remy would have some sort of objection to cooking or eating meat, as long as it wasn’t rodent meat or anything. gets sick, sorry
I mean, just because we’re humans doesn’t mean we shouldn’t eat meat.
As for animals eating meat, it happens all the time, so I think it’s fine.
But vegetarians? Well, I always wondered what that’s all about, but I respect those who choose that “lifestyle”, but I don’t think Remy’s a vegetarian, but either way, he’s an excellent cook. ![]()
There’s also the fact that rats can’t be vegetarian. At least, they can be forced to be, but this in turn would shorten Remy’s life. Vegetables don’t fulfil a rat’s dietry requirements- type the words ‘rats’ and ‘vegetarian’ into Google, and you’ll see what I mean.
Here’s one example-“…She found it impossible to formulate a vegetarian diet for rats which would fulfil all of their nutritional requirements. If you want your rats to thrive, they should have small amounts of animal protein.”
I don’t believe that. There’s no difference between plant and meat protein.
I typed the same thing into google, and found this.
Seems simple enough. The thing about rats is they can probably survive anywhere, on a wide variety of diets. I doubt there’s much meat available up in the freezing woods of Norway, and we all know that’s where most rats are from.
I forgot about the veal in the movie, although it’s interesting that the only meat in the movie appears in a recipe that was written to sound unappetizing and impossible to cook.
I knew I missed something. The fish still counts though.

Wow…somebody save that I got a heck of a praise ^0^ Well I help Remy on his end when I can, have allot of practice with Randall ![]()
Well I think the main bit Remy changed was the sauce from achovie licorish to something else, because Kersh (forgive spelling) said he “changed it AS it was going out the door”, so it probably did have veal in it ![]()
Good bit there at the end ![]()
Hmm anymore meat…well that’s allot in the food locker so lets take that in ^0^ Umm…Doesn’t Ratatouille have meat in it? It looked kinda like salomni that was cut finely that were the circle bits.
Nah, it’s traditionally a vegetable stew, the Thomas Keller version in the movie changed the arrangement and preparation, but it’s still thinly sliced veggies.
No, I’ve had ratatouille, it’s vegetables.
That was Horst. ![]()
Glyph- Doesn’t that prove my point moreso? As in, rats can be vegetarian, but only with human intervention- a rat wouldn’t choose to become vegetarian. Hence why I doubt Remy is one, although he definitely tends to lean towards fruit and vegetables in his cooking. ![]()
