My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I really hate those fics.

I must have read [spoil]Cupcakes[/spoil] at least 3 months ago, and it still gives me nightmares. Reading it a second time doesn’t help. Regardless of all the genuinely good things that came from it (several good alternate endings, a few funny memes, and the 20 minute Sweeney Todd parody song), I wish it was never written.

Sweet Apple Massacre was almost worse (although I really don’t like thinking about it), and Scootaloo’s Love for Pain was downright disgusting. Why are so many of these sick-fics made? There should be a law against making them. :imp:

Rac: Wow, Story of the Blanks was incredible! I kinda spoiled myself reading the comments halfway through the game - but the escape was so terrifying (especially when it came to the part where [spoil]I had to push the block while the undead pony advanced upon me[/spoil]).

Ooh… interesting images Google throws up! But is it like those kind of pairings like Viper x Crane which has no canon evidence yet people ship them? Or did I miss something while watching the series?

Chuckles: Yeah… it’s crazy what some fanfic writers throw out there. It’s unnecessarily sadistic. I got over it pretty quickly by pysching myself beforehand that it’s “just a fanfic”, but I can see how the uninitiated or younger readers might get horrified.

Haven’t read S.A.M. yet, and I certainly hadn’t heard of SCLfP until you mentioned it (I had a skim and it sounds more comedic-erotic than sado-masochistic).

Well, I’m not sure whether it’s alright to be discussing such fanfics in a family-friendly forum, but since most of us are grown-ups and as long as we don’t describe the fanfics in detail, I guess it should be fine. Since I’m a Mod, it’s my obligation to lay a few ground rules before we continue:

  • Spoiler-tagging the titles does NOT prevent readers from not reading them. If you want to censor questionable words or fanfic titles, use asterixes instead. (Ex: va, ae, “St Ae M******e”). Younger members or those ‘not in the know’ of said fanfics wouldn’t be able to figure the swear words or fanfic titles out, while those who are older and know the fanfics are able to figure it out.

  • Try not to discuss the plot in detail as much as possible, both to avoid spoilers and for our younger members.

  • Try as much as possible not to link to adult content.

  • If you must link to adult content, keep it AT MOST PG-13, and post a disclaimer describing the content.

  • The Mods reserve the right to remove any links or sentences deemed questionable. Mine included.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, this brings us nicely to a very funny, I mean, terrifying, fanfic I wanna share with you. So here’s the disclaimer:

The following fanfic is rated PG-13. It has no gore, but has supernatural elements and sexual scenes (though not in detail and simply mentioned in passing).

Be warned though, this story is not for the faint-hearted or lily-livered. It will also give an arachnophobic nightmares for life. But if you have a stomach of steel, a sense of humour, and a desire for hot, passionate spider-lovin’, then read on…

Oh, and did I mention this landmark fanfic was awarded Equestria Daily’s ‘Seal of Excellence’?

With that said, I now present to you:

The Spiderses

And here are a few of my favourite dramatic readings. Have them playing while you read this masterpiece of horror again and again.

Speaking of disturbing fan work, has anyone played any of the Luna games? I played Luna Game 0 but haven’t gathered the guts to play the first four. I watched playthroughs of them on youtube though, they’re extremely freaky.
[spoil]Basically it’s a series of games that don’t really have a consistent plot. They’re platformers where you play as Luna, but creepy stuff starts happening. The first one was by far the most annoying, after 30 or so seconds of play it would cut to a creepy picture of Cupcakes-ified Pinkie or Applebloom, lock your computer up then spam your desktop with .txt files that said “The end is neigh”. They get progressively longer and creepier as they go, with Luna Game 0 (which was released after Luna Game 4 but apparantly set before the first Luna Game) having Luna go crazy and decapitating Pinkie Pie. Creepy stuff. They’re scattered around this site.[/spoil]

I quite liked Story of the Blanks. I wasn’t all that creeped out at the [spoil]blank flank ponies[/spoil], but some parts had my heart pounding. This was in broad daylight mind you, I don’t think I could ever play it in the dark. 8D

Oh, I’ve heard of those games. I’m watching the Let’s Plays right now.

TDIT: Yeah, SpikexApplebloom isn’t canon at all…yet. :smiling_imp: I have the feeling that RarityxSpike will always be unrequited, and in my opinion, it should be. If she actually recuperated his feelings, I would find that a liiiitle creepy, given the whole age thing.

…What? :-\

Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way - I wasn’t addressing you personally. I mean in general. Those who are not familiar with the ironic humour of the Pony fandom or those who are younger are more predisposed to being traumatised by the contents of said fanfic. It’s the same reason why 7 year-olds might get frightened watching the Saw movies more than 20 year-olds, although this is a sweeping generalisation, as some adults might also get just as frightened as their younger counterparts.

Draik: I should try the Luna games! About how long does it take to complete each one? Thanks for the link!

Rac: Not to mention the inter-species bit! But isn’t Spike a baby dragon? So really, they’re just like two kids with puppy love, which I think is simply adorable!

Here’s a great fanfic I read about the pairing yesterday.

Spike and Apple Bloom’s Date

Oh, and guys, here’s the leaked Season 2 intro! (Well okay, you might smell a rat here, but click it anyway)

Last but not least, did you know some of the animators also cosplay their own characters?

Apparently, the person who plays Spike is a professional break dancer. LIKE A BOSS.

Source (Equestria Daily)

Spike=my favorite character, and now also my favorite animator. 8D

Anywho, I clicked on it. A great new intro, in my opinion. Very representative of the show. nodsinapproval

Pocket ponies! Has anyone else seen these awesome cutout ponies that you can stick pretty much anywhere? I’ve print and cut out most of them, but only have 4 (technically 5) on display.

Excuse the less-than-impressive picture quality, I took these on my iPod because I’m too lazy to find my camera.

Pinkie’s in two parts, the head and tail are seperate. Also, Derpy Hooves!

Everypony’s favourite shipping couple, Lyra and Bon-Bon!

The ponies I’ve cut out so far. I custom made my own Steven Magnet because he’s awesome.

They’re all shiny because I printed them out on regular paper then cut them out and laminated them. I want these to last FOREVER.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

I’d give anything to actually see someone wear that Steven Magnet in a suit pocket, considering it would probably reach to his/her nose. 8D

Those are so cute!! <3

Nice, well actually the Season 2 intro was just posted in HD a few days ago. Here’s a link, [url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvNLjOuYSFQ[/url]

Rac: Spike = BOSS.

Draik: Thanks for sharing the Pocket Ponies idea with us! I think I’ll print the creator’s images and use them as wicked bookmarks!

IV: Ainorite?

Chuckles: Haha, I saw that a few days ago, but thanks for sharing with us!

So I crashed at one of my best friend’s place yesterday after a night out in the town (we had a steamboat dinner and sang karaoke to celebrate the Mooncake Festival). Another good pal of mine stayed over, and I thought it would be a nice occassion to introduce them to the fandom. The first friend, who I’ll call J, had already seen the first part of the pilot, but not the second, while my second friend, W, is a newbie and has a strong prejudice against it despite not seeing a single episode (He’s the typical macho-man who thinks the show’s for “little girls”).

So while J was cleaning his room, I forced them against their will to watch ‘Fall Weather Friends’, since this guide said it would be a good introductory episode for reluctant newcomers. They watched for awhile and ask rhetorical questions (“Can the orange one fly?”, “Why is the blue one’s wings tied up?”, “How can the purple one beat the other two?”).

After the first episode finished, W was still unconvinced. J suggested we start from the beginning, so we played the first part of the pilot ‘Friendship is Magic’. They chuckled at some parts and made more comments (“So many Apples in the family!”, “Who’s the dragon?”). We went on the second part since the first ended on a cliffhanger. Tough-guy W was actually rooting for Nightmare Moon (since he usually loves the villains) but was disappointed that the ponies defeated her and her challenges pretty easily.

Finally, I played ‘Dragonshy’, but by that time they were getting bored and distracted, only occasionally glancing at the screen and asking the odd question (“Why is the yellow one afraid of the dragon when she likes the baby one?”). At the end of the exercise, they declared themselves still-skeptical and promptly high-fived each other. I dejectedly played the ‘Know Your Meme’ episode to explain the phenomenon and they humoured me by watching most of it.

While I was disappointed I didn’t manage to win two of my best friends over to ‘joining the herd’, I consoled myself that I at least gave it a shot. I have no qualms about ‘coming out of the colt-set’ regarding my viewing of this series - I’ve been posting links on my Facebook and telling as many people I know how great the show is without coming off as too obsessed. A few of my RL friends have ‘Liked’ the official FB page, but otherwise, I haven’t really found anyone to discuss the show with in RL.

Tis’ a pity, but I know in my heart that there’s no shame in being a Brony, and that I can take comfort and solace that there are many like me who feel the same way.

Tumblr post

tdit: Good for you. How awesome to think about it like that. Don’t feel too bad about not converting anybody, let me tell you it takes a lot of time, work, and luck. But hey, as long as they can understand why people like it, and don’t think of you any differently, then I’d say that mission was a success.

Brilliant post TDIT. I’m sorry that didn’t work out quite as you’d wished, but it’s a good thing you tried.

The C.S. Lewis quote is brilliant and amazingly applicable, as well.

I’m currently doing a countdown of MLP episodes in anticipation for Season 2. I’m so excited!

K9Girl:Oh my God, me too! Unfortunately, none of my Brony friends have the Hub so we’re all frantically searching for a way for us to watch it.

Also, thanks to the wonderfully hilarious phenomenon of Doctor Whooves, My Little Pony has gotten me watching Doctor Who and I am now officially a fan. Funny how that works, amirite?

Rac_Rules: Awesome, that’s how I got into Doctor Who too. 8D

Chuckles: If it’s any consolation, ‘W’ agreed with me that the animation was good and the storyline had good morals for kids. It’s just that it’s not his ‘kind of show’. He’s a fan of ‘Breaking Bad’, which explains a lot!

Leirin: Aw, thanks, Leirin! The C.S. Lewis quote is often quoted in the Brony fan community, but can also be applied to any animated film or TV show. Pixar’s films are another great example of ‘movies for kids’ (and I mean this in the narrow-minded sense) that transcend their ‘glass ceiling’ and appeal to all-ages!

K9Girl: Do you mean a marathon? I plan to do a straight thirteen-hour marathon of the first season sometime this week and write a report on it! I’ll see if I can set aside a day for this perilous and endurance-testing quest!

Rac: I tried watching one episode of Dr Who (It’s ‘The Eleventh Hour’, where Matt Smith and Amy Pond are introduced as the new Doctor and companion respectively) and while the story was predictable, it was pretty entertaining. I’m not sure whether Dr Whooves is an intentional reference, but MLP has a lot of these goodies for older audiences:

All-ages show: Hipsters love children’s programming

By the way, you’ll never believe it, but former POTUS Bill Clinton displays a remarkable aptitude in an impromptu test about the series (although I have to admit, the provided answers were pretty easy to guess).

Bill Clinton Plays Not My Job

6 More Days, Everypony!

Tdit: Yes, I meant a marathon. The 13 hour one you plan on doing sounds so cool! Unfortunately, I don’t have that much time on my hands, though.

Oh
Heck
Yes
I friggin love this fandom.

I think the Doctor Whooves thing was unintentional, just a funny little resemblance noticed by the fandom.
