My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I am so behind on My Little Pony. I love the show (just bought an Appplejack toy earlier today  ), but there’s so much to do and watch these days, and not enough time. According to my DVR, I have five episodes to watch before I’m caught up. I have a couple of questions. Is there anybody else who isn’t to crazy about those little pony’s who are waiting to get their cutie marks? To me the weakest episodes so far are the ones that focus on them. I keep thinking about how I wish they would show the other ponies more when an episode is focused on them. Also, before the episode where Rarity was kidnapped by the Diamond Dog’s, was there ever any moments where it was shown that Spike liked her? I don’t remember seeing anything like that. And speaking of Rarity, after watching that episode when she was kidnapped, and the one after that where she meets that famous fashion designer (who looks like a Lady Gaga version of a pony) and Fluttershy ends up famous, I gotta say, I LOVE the voice actress who does her voice! I kept rewinding certain parts of the episode with the Diamond Dogs just because of how Rarity said a line.

@theoutsider
-Spike was gaga over Rarity in the first episode, then they kept his crush a little more subtle. Lately they’ve been picking it up though.
-I love Rarity’s actress as well. According to an interview, she’d often bake cupcakes for the crew and be an all around awesome person. Now that’s some love and toleration right there.
-The Cutie Mark Crusaders trend is very similar to the steps to bronydom. First you watch an episode and don’t think much of them. Next your ignorance turns into hatred for the trio. Then you decide to shrug them off, releasing all your hate. Then you gradually accept them. Finally you find yourself in a position where the Cutie Mark Crusaders have grown on you so much that you love them equally to the mane cast. Good luck! :sunglasses:

What is it about this show that’s got everyone up in a tither? It’s My Little Pony, for Pete’s sake!

… Declaring everyone ‘crazy’ instead of checking it out for yourself sure makes you look like a very cool person now. :sunglasses: Also, this thread is FULL of arguments, I suggest you read them.

And dangit it, no more new episodes for 6 months. Season 1 has officially ended. :frowning:

I like the show–yes, I’m too old. Yes, I admit it…they’re just too adorable! Is there a law for being too adorable? Plus, I’m looking for Applejack and TS screencaps…

Lauren Faust won’t play a big role in the second season. That has people on other messageboards who are fans of the show worried about that.

Just went on a Pony binge last week with my brother (Hooray, I managed to get him hooked!). My favourite is Fluttershy and his is Applejaack (thought he would go with Rainbow Dash since he’s such a jock).

I just finished the controversial ‘Over a Barrel’ episode and I can see how it ruffles a few feathers, especially land-rights advocates. I thought it was handled rather well- except for the pretty derogatory way they presented Native American food, although Pinkie Pie’s acceptance of it sort of makes it alright (then again, she’ll eat pretty much antyhing, including burnt cupcakes).

As I’ve said before, I really admire Ponies’ ‘moral message an episode’ approach, and how they advocate pacificst approaches to conflict resolution (we see this with the manticore and sea serpent in Part 2 of the pilot, and the dragon in ‘Dragonshy’). And when it came to violent, unreasonable monsters like the Hydra, the ponies run away and leave it alone instead of slaying it.

I’m not saying that we should avoid enemies, but if it’s a choice between killing a dangerous animal or avoiding it (like a lion or a shark or whatever), the Ponies’ envinronmental-preservation stance (Take Nothing, Leave Nothing) is certainly commendabe.

And of course, 'Over a Barrel’s solution to complicated disputes, while overtly simple (some indigenous natives might not have anything they want from the settlers, like Avatar or Pocahontas), still gives children the right message about sharing and exchange of culture, which is beautifully summarised by Pinkie Pie’s hilarious ‘Share and Care’ number. Bilateral relations shouldn’t be about ‘Us’ vs ‘Them’, but rather what can we do for it to become ‘Us’.

If this was any other cartoon (like Powerpuff Girls or Danny Phantom or Ben Ten or Jake Long) the protagonists would destroy the opponent mercilessly. This is not the message we should be sending to our children.

I’m sorry if I have said this before, but seeing new episodes such as the Hydra and Dragonshy reminded me of why I just love MLP: FIM so much and the wonderfully refreshing approach they’re taking to quality all-ages entertainment.

And that’s why I’m hooked.

i just came here to say i absolutely adore this show. it’s just…so warm and friendly and actually well-made that i can’t help but love it.

also, pinkie pie is my favorite. she’s just so adorable OMG I CAN’T HELP IT. followed closely by applejack.

YAY.

I really love this show

You guys will appriciate this.

I was listening to a radio show from NPR (National Public Radio) on the car ride from the airport back home. On it, they had a little game show where they invite well known intelligent people to answer questions on a subject that they know nothing about.

This episode’s guest was President Clinton. And the topic? My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

It was hilarious to listen to the the ex president answer questions about ponies, and get this he got all the questions right! (To be fare they were simple questions, and obvious to anyone which is the correct answer.

It was very funny!

^Haha! That’s hilarious.

My favorite is either Pinkie or Fluttershy.

This is outrageous. I watch one episode and I’m hooked.

What’s this show, some virus or something? Badger = Brony.

I like Fluttershy and her birds, heheh. And Pinkie Pie. She’s so random. Heh.

Welp, sure makes a change from Donkey Kong Country…

Haha, Badger! I don’t know why this show is addicting, but it is.

Things people always say:

  • The show has fantastic animation. It’s eye-catching bright colors and beautiful set pieces are more than welcome in a world flooded with dull brown post-apocalyptic dramas. Sure the ponies don’t look as pony-like as the G1 characters, but it doesn’t really matter. They still look visually attractive (c’mon, you know what I mean) and at least they don’t look like demonic hippos (G2) or Good Guys dolls straight out of Child’s Play (G3.5)

-It’s Lauren Faust dude. Just look at her filmography. She wanted to make a good show, and believed in her work. The outcome was more than she imagined. Hurray for female role-models!

-The writers don’t write screenplays for a girls cartoon, they write screenplays for a show. With this in mind, it’s no wonder why so many references are hidden between episodes and how many of the stories seem way ahead of their time. The pivots from action-packed adventure tales, to gut-busting escapades of pure hilarity, to terrifying portrayals of mental breakdowns. Some scenes from select episodes have given me chills. You know, those chills you only get during a part in a movie/show that really moves you.

-It’s been a while since a truly outstanding animated show has been released. There have been some good shows, but when you realize that the last animated show to be considered “revolutionary” was Avatar, it’s kind of a wonder how the gap from 2005 to 2010 managed to stretch so far.

My points:

-I consider it a privelage to have become a brony during the production of the show (February no less). The first time I saw a new episode on pony-day/friday (Stare Master) my mind was blown. Watching MLP episodes is like a fun game. Every episode has the ability to change the universe of the show. Somepony could sneeze and depending on the outcomes, could highly contribute to the factors of how Equestria works. In fact, because talking about ponies is fun I’ll list a moment in every episode that had the greatest contribution to builiding the world and physics of Equestria:

1. FiM part 1: Alcohol exists in Equestria.
2. FiM part 2: Steven Magnet would be ruler of Equestria if Celestia (and Luna) weren’t around.
3. The Ticket Master: Princess Celestia is the biggest troll in Equestria.
4. Applebuck Season: As it turns out, the elements of harmony are pointless.
5. Griffon the Brush-Off: Pinkie Pie can successfully predict the future
6. Boast Busters: Green hair is the worst hair color ever.
7. Dragonshy: Fluttershy can go full-rage-mode at any given moment when supplied with enough anger to trigger a response.
8. Look Before You Sleep: Ponies control all the seasons.
9. Bridle Gossip: Racism exists in Equestria.
10. Swarm of the Century: Pinkie Pie always tells the truth…mostly (Seriously, why is Applejack the holder of honesty again?)
11. Winter Wrap Up: Keep in mind that if Twilight leaves Ponyville, the town’s stability will collapse.
12. Call of the Cutie: Equestria follows the same Gregorian calendar as humans.
13. Fall Weather Friends: Grudge rhymes with fudge, who knew?
14. Suited For Success: The writers can have the mane cast act out of character if it’s necessary to advance the plot.
15. Feeling Pinkie Keen: Oh boy, Pinkie Pie is the pony version of Chuck Norris.
16. Sonic Rainboom: Even if your episode is mediocre, if it has a few scenes that stand out as some of the greatest on the show, fans will ignore their dislikes.
17. Stare Master: I guess Equestria does have a fate worse than death.
18. The Show Stoppers: All intentionally bad songs on the show are actually good.
19. A Dog and Pony Show: Rarity is the second biggest troll in Equestria.
20. Green Is Not Your Color: Pinkie Pie can break the fourth wall as she pleases (hinted at before but now made official).
21. Over A Barrel: The Apple Family has members all over the world.
22. A Bird in the Hoof: A pheonix is the third biggest troll in Equestria.
23. The Cutie Mark Chronicles: Twilight is Spike’s mother.
24. Owl’s Well That Ends Well: Owls are the fourth biggest- you know what? Screw it. Everybody in Equestria has the potential to be a troll.
25. Party of One: We already knew Pinkie Pie was insane, now whenever she becomes insane she has straight hair.
26. The Best Night Ever: The entire series was one big setup so that Trollestia could invite the mane cast and ruin the entire gala. Also, at times Fluttershy can be more scary than Pinkie Pie.

[spoil]Alright, this was one big joke, but it was fun to write, so yeah.[/spoil]

-The fandom is huge. First of all, there exists a pony version of everything. I once had fun on facebook chat when my friend would try to come up with something there wasn’t a pony version of, but I’d always reply ten seconds later with a picture. Bronies can be very talented and creative people. Fanfics are novel-worthy, PMVs can move some to tears, and art can be incredible. The amount of fan-work released every day is so massive that’s it’s almost as if Season 1 never ended.

-The creators care about the fans a lot. Being a fan of MLP is all the more fun when you realize that the cast and crew all love you just as much as you love them.

-Sonic rainbooms are awesome. That is all.

That’s pretty much all the reasons I can think of as to why MLP FiM is such a good show. (Even if I basically just wrote this out of boredom).

I’m sorry that I haven’t been spending a lot of time on Pixar Planet over the last few months, as this show is the reason why (or to be more specific the fandom). I promise to visit in every now and then, as you guys where truly the first fan site to adopt me as one of your own. I don’t think I’d be brave enough to be as active a brony as I am if it weren’t for you guys, so thanks. Okie dokie lokie, I think that’s enough.

And that’s how Equestria was made.

crashes thru the roof

Did someone say Friendship is Magic!?

I LOVE this show so much! Now that season one is done (with season 2 due out in november) I look on my tv guide to see what eps they’ll be showing. They show 2 a day (minues weekends and I think monday) and if its an ep I liked, I’ll watch it over again with glee!
Rarity, Fluttershy and Twilight are my 3 mane faves and in order.

Hey that’s awesome Zenoah. Wait, episodes that you like? Are you implying there are MLP FiM episodes you don’t like?!? :open_mouth: That’s impossible dude.

Oh I love them ALL, but there are some that I have seen more than others. What I ment was, if I had things to and it’s an ep I’ve seen a lot, I can carry on.
You’re asking me to pick a fave ep!? Im gonna have to say Best Night Ever for [spoil]Flutterage[/spoil] and the Pony Poky song.
This show needs to become more popular and grant more merch. I have heard rumours that they may
put the eps on DVD…but I have a feeling it’ll be pretty mediocre…
I do have a pony forum if you want me to PM the link to you.

Hasbro has confirmed a DVD release, but your guess is as good as mine on the quality.
Hey, do you have a username on said pony forum?

Am I the only one who doesn’t see the appeal of this show? On several occasions I’ve watched episodes of this, and I just didn’t enjoy it. I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it either. But it’s interesting to see the huge fan base this show has gathered.
