My mom just got a Major "Drive By Download"......

of a Spyware/Malware/Virus combo.

My mom’s PC just got hit hard. And I mean Hard. She got a email in her hotmail that looked like it came from either MSNBC or CNN saying a Plane Crashed into a school and Killed a bunch of kids. Being the kind of person my mom is. She went to the link. Instead she got a drive by download of Antivirus XP 2008. A Very bad Spyware/Malware/Virus combo. And it installed it’s self onto my mom’s PC. In a attempt to she turned her computer off. But I was too late, Antivirus XP 2008 got done installing. She started her PC back up. Antivirus XP 2008 XP went nuts, Giving false Virus Threats and Changed her Background. We had to go download Spy Bot S&D. But what ever this thing is, Spy Bot had a hard time finding it.

Word of Caution, Don’t Go to any links in emails that look like they came from CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, or any other major news networks or sites. You do NOT WANT “Antivirus XP 2008” on your computer. This thing infects both XP and Vista computers. And from what I have experienced so far, This thing is hard as heck to Kill

Thought you guys needed to Know and Warn ya.

JavaScript. It makes it hard to kill. Just a case of killing a load of processes and running a scan.

Solution:

Get a mac.

THanks for the warning nightwheel. I’ll remember that.

hahaha. That made my day. It’s funny because it’s true.

I’ve been getting those CNN emails too and my mum also got one and I told her to delete it as it was spam. Now I know it’s more than that. Thanks for the warning.

Did you manage to get your computer up and running nightwheel from a backup?

If Spybot can’t find it, try Ad-Aware. Those two programs when coupled together have never done me wrong.

Ah, that’s so true…

Even using the default Apple firewall is all you need. In fact, most of the time, a firewall isn’t even needed. As soon as some kind of bad virus hits the mac, Apple is usually there with an update. That being said, Mac’s aren’t completely invulnerable!
Check out this Mac virus: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qB_K66mrZi4

That aside, that is absolutely terrible news. A lot of my friends that use PCs get emails like that. My one friend had to get a new computer entirely! I’m not trying to sound like a "Mac fanboy" but they are a lot safer. Besides, running Windows on a Mac is the next best thing to using a PC. It runs Windows at a normal speed.

Ack, I’m rambling again… :-\

My Mom’s PC is ok, We think now,

I seriously just got that Virus… and I don’t know how to get rid of it. PLEASE any help would be wanted. Or else I’m basically screwed. :open_mouth: I just visited a random site on the internet, NOTHING ELSE, and this is what I get… I didn’t open anything! Please, if anyone knows what to do, contact me ASAP. :frowning:

Did you do a viral scan? It can usually track down what’s responsible.

Aahhh. It’s alright now. My computer is finally back up and running. I had actually gotten rid of it before, but then my computer was being dumb, so it wouldn’t turn on. Thankfully it wasn’t because of the virus though. It’s all good.

trojan.zlob is the cause of all this.

I’m back! and where have the 4 stickes from the top of the page gone?

they went here: pixarplanet.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=48

I figured that, thanks anyway.
