My trip to Arizona

Pictures to come later since Imageshack is down, again. :stuck_out_tongue: And I need to sort. Here’s the linkage to my album on facebook - Arizona trip Lemme know if the link doesn’t work because I haven’t done that before …

Okay, where to start ...

Well, we stayed in a hotel only about a block away from Route 66 - a block and a railroad. Awesome place especially if you love Cars - it's a homey little town and full of shops, and it's just strange to be there because it really reminded me a lot of Radiator Springs - old retro out-of-use gas station, retro hotel complex (still in use) ... it was just awesome. :sunglasses: And at night, it was even more like Radiator Springs, not just with the neon lights but it was extremely quiet except for the music that echoed from the nearest restaurant. I tell you, Pixar did extremely well when they designed that film.

The next day ... I think I had gone up to the grand canyon - took a long train ride and off the train onto a bus that took us to the ridge. There are freaky scary drops up there, and though I never thought I cared much for my siblings my heart nearly jumped from my throat when they stood several inches from the ledge. My sister slipped upon getting up once, and I teetered after taking a photo - don't ever look in the book of deaths but I must warn you all - most deaths occur from not paying attention while taking a photo. :open_mouth: And, I tell you - I felt it before I knew that little fact. Each time I had to pick up my camera I had a sudden fear of where I might be standing - and I'm not even afraid of heights - I'm fascinated by them. But ... the stories are unsettling.

I also wound up going back to the canyon the next morning, woke up at three and waited till 5:30 to catch the sunrise. It was pretty cool- and we looked closely down the mountain and saw the movements of flashlights from hikers below. They're crazy to hike at night - that's also how a lot of deaths have occured. x_x

Day after that, I went to Sedona, and took a balloon tour near the red rocks. Was pretty awesome - not at all as scary as I thought it would be. We got pictures of the sunrise since they only do balloon tours in the morning due to wind gusts.

I also went to this church but it really wasn't much to look at. =/ I like churches for their cool architecture, but this one was a disappointment. And small. The only thing great about it was the fantastic view of this valley in the red rock.

Other than that, I did more shopping then I should have with money I didn't have - money I now owe my parents. :stuck_out_tongue: I bought loads of crystals and stones that really didn't come from the Grand Canyon at all ... a dream catcher, and some keychains. Wasn't much to buy and most of the cool stuff was far too expensive. But I'm happy with what I got.

Well, as much as I loved the trip, I wasn't happy throughout it simply because I wasn't in the mood to go vacay, and my mom was driving me up a wall. But, overall, I think it was worthwhile. I just love natural wonders - I've become a sort of nature nut what with my beliefs and all, and I found I'm particularly amazed by things like mountains and cactuses and canyons. I've never been to a desert before - most I've been to is farmlands and Niagara Falls. So, this was a great experience for me. And I enjoyed it.

Btw- it was pretty windy, but still very hot in the sun - if anyone wants to go there I recommend you go on Spring break. I don’t even wanna imagine the horror it might be in the summer … :open_mouth:

What an awesome trip, FONY - the photos were very interesting to look at. I wasn’t considering to before, but now I will definitely have to go along Route 66 when I travel. The resemblance to the scenery from Cars is so spot-on that it’s scary. I enjoyed looking at the pictures. You brother seems very funny. Heheh.

Wow, I just saw the pictures. Really beautiful FONY! Makes me wish I was there.

rachelcakes: Yeah, Route 66 is a must for any Cars fan - not a big fan myself but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Actually annoyed my dad to go with me there, twice after losing photo opportunities the first time due to a UPS truck. :stuck_out_tongue:
But even my mom noticed the scenery is almost exactly in Cars - she noticed it for the first time since it was on the TV that night.
Lol! If you think my brother’s funny you should see the other pics - about a third of the photos are of him since he’s such a camera hog. xD But he makes the funniest of faces.

TSS: Yeah, the pictures don’t do the scenery justice at all - not even the better quality ones off of my dad’s camera - you need to be there in order to get the full experience. It’s definitely a place you need to visit before you die.

Those photos look gorgeous, FONY! You’re so right- it really does look like one of those places that you just have to see. I’m pleased you had a good trip.

I will do that FOny. That plans to be a goal for me sometime soon.

Thanks lizardgirl! Yeah, it truly is amazing. :sunglasses:

Yeah, TSS- it’s definitely a place to see but the one thing I can say is don’t bring small children - there was a terrifying story recently about a little girl that fell, and I don’t see how anyone in their right mind would bring a young child like that. I mean, my brother is 15 and my sister is 17, and they still don’t know well enough to stay clear of the ledge! =P

Thanks for the advice about the book, FONY.

A113: You’re welcome. I thought it’d be an interesting read, but there are these lists in there that you can just browse and … well, it was just chilling. Looking back on the photos I took of my siblings standing way too freaking close to the edge makes me wanna strangle them for doing that. xD

I’ve lived in Arizona for 19 years and I’ve never been to the grand canyon :frowning:

Thats crazy Kel Bel!

nice trip fony

so you visited my state…great canyon isn’t it.

Too bad most of the people in Arizona want to go see other state’s landmarks since it is 20-30 degrees cooler lol
