"Mystery Spot" in Toy Story Animated Storybook

I found my old copy of Toy Story Animated Storybook and decided to play it again (great graphics, FYI). Now, there’s only one thing that I don’t get at all. In the scene where Andy’s toys meet Buzz, you can look at Buzz through Lenny’s binoculars. It doesn’t really serve a purpose (though it was kinda cute that they put the Disney logo on him), but inside his helmet, there’s a small decal that says something like “visit the mystery spot.” I tried clicking on it, but nothing happened. I have no idea what it’s supposed to mean. Anyone have any ideas? I would get a screen shot, but when I try to import it, all of the colors get scrambled.

I’ve played that game as a kid so I know exactly what you’re referring to. The Animated Storybook games from Disney always have clickable gags or lines from the characters that either closely follow the film’s storyline or are just there for fun and don’t make any sense. Another example would be the page where Woody scares Sid in the backyard and I figured out that clicking on the parts of the fence made it sound like a xylophone. I never had any idea myself what the Mystery Spot was or what it had to do with Buzz. And yeah, unfortunately cause of how the game was made you can’t really capture a screenshot of it (I’m not sure if capturing a video of it has worked for some people either).

I guess I should get a magnifying glass and check to see if there’s a “Visit the Mystery Spot” sticker in TSC Buzz’s helmet to make sure he’s 100% accurate.

I think I’d be afraid to visit Buzz’s mystery spot. Maybe I’m being a dirty oldish man, but I’m thinking of anther ahem-spot. -Omar

^ I lol’d.

Hmmm I played that game forever and never really caught that…interesting

I’m thinking it might just be an inside joke at this point, but I’ll try to whip up a picture tomarrow somehow.

It might be referring to the tourist trap in Santa Cruz., California.

I’ve been there 2 or 3 times. It’s pretty cool.[/img]

If the logos match up, we could have our answer. Nice research there, Chao.

No prob.
It’s probably a California-inside joke if the logo matches up. Though there are other Mystery Spots else where in America with the same gimmick.

Here’s my MS Paint mock-up!

Sadly, other than the name, there’s nothing that relates this directly to the California Mystery Spot. The font was consistant, so there was no traces of the logo either.

It’s pretty hard to interpret from my picture, but I’m pretty sure that the blue background is water with what looks like waves. And then some pinkish object above the water. Strange.

Yeah, it looks something like that. I think it’s supposed to be an island.
