Meh…looks kind of boring in my opinion… basically the TV spot from before, but nothing more that’s too substantial.
Now I understand Bryko’s recent Tweets…
Well, I’m somewhat disappointed that they’re still showing scenes from Tokyo, although there were a couple of glimpses of the new locales towards the end of the trailer.
I really, really love the opening. The music reminds me of The Vantage Point theme. Pixar really had the spy-atmosphere going there.
And then it went downhill from there. There’s sort of an unwritten rule for trailer editing that you shouldn’t use more than three songs (because a trailer is like a mini-movie, it has three acts). They kept piling on the song changes and tagline cards that I found it hard to keep track of the ‘throughline’, the theme. Is it Mater and Lightning going around the world? Is it about Professor Z’s plot to take over the world? Who am I supposed to be rooting for? What’s the essence of the movie, the takeaway message?
It’s all over the place, and sorry to the fans, but I think it’s one of Pixar’s worst trailers. Note that I said trailer, and not movie. I can’t judge the movie. I haven’t seen it.
I did love Flynn’s parting quote, though:
“Friendships can be difficult in our line of work, Mater.”
Unfortunately the video in the link isn’t working for me, I hope it’s uploaded on youtube soon, I want to see it.
I have a link don’t know how long it will work though,

Its a German cut of another trailer, completely different from what we’re given here in America. This one feels more like a Spy movie here.
InsanePirateDragon: The German cut is waaay better! At least there aren’t as many title cards or song changes. And we got our first glimpse of Paris!
I do wish they didn’t use ‘Crash’ by Matt Willis and they continued with the Vantage Point theme or some David Arnold music.
at 1:17 in the trailer, you see Flo, Red, Sally, Sheriff, and Ramone looking out the window from radiator springs, it looks like. Im glad Red is returning.
Hahaha! “Is the Pope Mobile Catholic?” Love that line.
And now found an english translation of the german trailer
I think they’ll be staying behind in Radiator Springs, though.
Haha, that’s the UK trailer, but yup, you’re right that it’s an exact copy of the German trailer (except the Germans used ‘From the creators of Wall-E’ while the Brits used ‘From the creators of Toy Story 3’).
Yess! I love the dramatic opening, and action sequences. I’m liking what I see!
I thought the opening was one of the best for any Pixar trailer. It was sooo cinematic. Too bad they couldn’t keep the pace afterwards. Perhaps I should give it my rescoring treatment!
As I’ve said in the ‘Central Cars 2 discussion’ and the ‘What Are You Listening’ thread, I’m 99% certain the trailer editors pinched the opening theme from Atli Örvarsson’s ‘Vantage Point’ soundtrack. Which is a pity, because a lot of fans seem to be thinking it’s Giachinno’s score, when it’s in fact from a lesser-known artist.
I keep saying this because I want to ensure the right person gets the proper credit and to clear any misunderstanding. And also because I’m pleased to already know the music track used in the trailer without having to read YT comments.
Have a listen to the main theme and tell me if my suspicions are right. I posted the end credit titles in the earlier threads, but I found this track to be closer to the one used in the trailer.
I felt that way too, it did feel like it dropped off. It feels like the first half of the trailer is a drama and the second half is a light hearted comedy.
the Germans used ‘From the creators of Wall-E’ while the Brits used ‘From the creators of Toy Story 3’).
Pixar will never again promote one of its upcoming films with “From The Creators of Toy Story” in Germany, it is a pity that TS3 was a complete flop in that country

That’s why I was so disappointed with the trailer. You can edit it in a ‘fun’ manner and still make it exciting. To use an example of a not-so-great film, there’s the Revenge of Kitty Galore trailer, which still maintained its spy theme throughout by using a great Dame Shirley Bassey (a singer for two Bond film themes) remix of a Pink number. And to use an example of a great film, there’s the World is Not Enough trailer, which just used orchestral music throughout. I felt like I was watching an Austin Powers spoof instead of a high-stakes espionage thriller, which was the impression given to me from the posters and teasers.
They really need to examine their marketing strategy.

Heh, the Germans are like that. There’s a reason why ‘schadenfreude’ is a German word.
Nothing against Germans, though. And Shrek Forever After wasn’t a bad movie either. But yes, it’s interesting to see the reason behind Pixar’s marketing tactic.
Yes, the UK and German version does seem to be better- in fact while I still have some doubts it’s pushing me a little bit more towards the optimistic end of the scale. Granted I’m still worried about the antagonist in this movie in general (he kind of looks ugly which is such a cliche, granted at least Mater isn’t a sterotypical handsome guy at least but still it makes my eyes roll a little what with the monacle and all- but then it seems to be parodying Bond in many ways…still, it’s kind of almost like giving the villian a moustach in some ways for them to twirl) and I wonder why the heck Lightening specifically not winning the race would be important at all to him. (Granted that could be the point to result in curiosity regarding this but I just don’t see how logically speaking it would be important to someone trying to take over the world or whatever his true/primary motivation precisely is- though once again that’s possibly the point).
It looks like it -could- be set to be a pretty good buddy film in some ways eventually though so it could be fun and while I was still going to see it I’m a bit more interested now than before.
I’m guessing when Mater gets mistaken as a spy he neglects his duties in the pit during races which may cause a rift too initially.
does anyone know the name of the song that starts at :37?

so glad to hear that you are now interested in Cars 2, I’ve read a lot of positive reactions from people that weren’t too excited abouit it, and changed their mind after seeing the international trailer
