While going through
my Pixar DVDs, I came up with a good topic about a not so good thing.
You know those tabs you have to
unlock before you can open a new DVD case? Aren’t those THE most annoying things? Why are they even there? To
keep the DVD from escaping? LOL

I don’t bother me, I like seein people struggle to open
it for like 20 minutes, before the finally give it to me and I open it in a second.
It makes
people use a part of their brain they’ve never used in a while.
Heheh. I never struggle with them, but they’re such a
nuisance.

Not you in particular PV, but I’ve seen people have a really hard time. I’ve gotten so used
to it that I automatically look for it on DVD’s that don’t even have it.

There are tabs on new DVDs…? Lol.
Yep.

They’re on most new DVD
cases.

Oh…I was kinda confused
on what you’re on about. Over here in England the only thing that gets on my nerves are those tightly sealed
DVDs. Some has tiny little strips for you to peal open with ease but some is just concealed without an opening
which is quite hard for people who hasn’t got long finger nails to rip the see through plastic sheet. Once you
do, you only manage to rip a tiny piece from it…
Yeah I know what you mean.
I think it’s an attempt to foil shoplifters who slit open
the plastic and take the disc, also I suppose for child proofing?

Yeh, I remember first seeing those a few months ago when I bought my Ren and Stimpy
Adult Party Cartoons DVD. I didn’t understand the purpose at first, but they weren’t really a nuisance because
they were pretty easy to open. It’s probably for extra protection or something along those lines, but sometimes
they’re kinda fun to play with.
There’s a much simpler way of doing it in Northern Ireland:
Most of the cases on the stands are empty.
When one brings a case to the check-out, the receptionist gets the disc from an off-floor library and inserts it
in the case. It’s almost impossible to shop lift unless you assault the staff. Although it does lead to the
occasional situation for one reason or another where there are more cases than discs, so they run out of stock
and dash one’s hope of getting Final Fantasy VI…
Yeah, I hate that. You buy a DVD that you’ve been waiting to get for
ages, and you can’t get it open!

It’s like a very cheap plastic cover without a
specially designed opener but surprisingly strong…& you expect little kids opening those?!
Since when did they put that there?
Oh my god, I HATE those. It sucks when you try to open it and then you realize that you almost
broke it because of those little tab things. I mean, they closed fine without them… why did they put them
there???

Just about
to say that, only over here in Scotland.

Since when did they put that
there?

I think they design the DVD cases differently, depending on which country
you’re in. To be honest, these tab things look like a better design than the silly, see-through plastic cover
things that we have here. At least there’s an obvious place to actually start trying to get the thing open!

I think I like the old ones better.

Yeah, I
think the whole of the U.K has the plastic concealed wrapper…
The only time that I don’t get the
concealed wrapper is when I buy them from supermarkets (like Tesco’s) which is either has an empty box like RMS
Oceanic stated earlier or inside this see through case which requires the staff checkouts to unlock…
