A new “It Gets Better” video this time featuring Google Chrome has a very short piece of Pixar animation of Woody included. As opposed to the normal airings of the IGB campaign, this was a paid advertisement by Google that supposedly aired in prime time during Glee
Great message on tolerance and acceptance, Pixar. We may not necessarily have to support gay equality (although I am hetero and I have no problems with same-gender marriages) but nobody should be bullied or attacked for their sexuality.
On a lighter note, does anyone think that the old man at 0:53 looks like a certain Pixar character?
I had heard and seen parts of this online but hadnt actually seen it on TV till a few days ago. I think its just great I totally support the message its sending.
lol, my dad saw the commercial today, and when I explained it he misunderstood and thought that all the people in the add were gay. So the part when Woody came on, my dad was so shocked!
He was like “So all that time with Bo Peep was a lie? I thought he was a true American hero, but he is a liar!”
Of course, I take it your dad was saying this in jest? Because one can be a true American hero and be gay. Being patriotic has nothing to do with sexuality.
On a lighter note, I always knew Woody was going to come out of Andy’s closet. (Kidding!)
The ad’s quite timely, too. Today is ‘International Day Against Homophobia’.
Without getting too political, whatever opinions we may have of homosexuality, we don’t have the right to impose rules on who people can choose to love. Euthanasia and abortion deserve to be more contentious because they are essentially the taking of human life, sometimes without consent. But consensual love between two human beings doesn’t bring any negative side effects to both parties. You can still marry a person of the opposite gender, the world is not going to end.
Too true TDIT. There’s nothing “evil” or “un-natural” about love. I believe in a little thing called Civil Rights. And I’m so ashamed my country doesn’t allow equality when it comes to marriage.
I agree, EJE! I’m rather ashamed about my homeland Malaysia and my host countries Singapore and Australia too. Such prejudice and intolerant beliefs should not exist in the 21st century.
I wrote a pretty heartfelt and personal piece to commemorate the occasion here. Or you can follow the link in my sig.
You summed it up greatly. I really liked your personal expirience that you shared, about your classmate. That’s a very touching story, no one is perfect, and I’m glad you’re one who left the hate and choose to love. I was like that too.
My father is a Republican, and doesn’t believe in gay marriage. So I had the same thoughts, like most kids do. But once I got out in the world, and my eyes were opened by peers and teachers, I made decisions for myself. I’m glad I come from a Republican Family, and that my friends are all Liberal (I live an hour from San Francisco, in a average small progressive California town. That’s as classic liberal as you get). I’m happy to be exposed to both sides, and see things from both sides of the equations.
ANYWAY, back to your link. Do you mind if I share it on my facebook? Also I laughed bc the first word I saw was 'Slave girl"
I think the idea of homosexuality as a ‘political issue’ is just silly. It’s only political 'cause some folk are taught outdated views, and a heck of a lot of time people think saying ‘it’s my religious views’ means that their viewpoint is valid, and hate/fewer rights for gay people can somehow be acceptable just because some old book says so.
Anyhow, I’d hope the basic message of this campaign is one that most people would be behind.
