I haven’t seen mention of this (maybe I missed it) but apparently there’s a new book out on Pixar, from a business and behind-the-scenes point of view.
For those of you interested in the book, my local newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, reviewed both The Pixar Touch: The Making of a Company and To Infinity and Beyond: The Story of Pixar Animation Studios in the May 30th edition of the paper.
Of course, Pixar is still a young studio with only nine films under its belt. This is just the start of Pixar. His review seems to be wanting something extra…
I definitely agree that both books complement each other. The Pixar Touch focuses on the business side of Pixar’s earlier years, and To Infinity and Beyond focuses on the artistic and creative side of Pixar’s films. Although I have not finished reading The Pixar Touch, I have enjoyed learning about Pixar. It definitely has an unauthorized feel to it, reading much like a biography with anecdotes from many people who helped build the company. Most of the book so far focuses on before Pixar was even founded and the struggles the founders encountered on the business side. When I finish the book, I’ll have a more comprehensive review!
I highly recommend both books if you haven’t read them yet! They’ll look great on your Pixar shrine!
