Just an update…
This was to have aired the other night, but because of President Obama’s speech, it was pre-empted. It’s now scheduled to air next week, on December 8th at 8:30pm EST/PST.
Woah, I had no idea Michael Giacchino was scoring this!
It’s looking great, and the visuals look almost on par with a feature (from some other studios, at least )
Apparently a lot of the ‘Bolt’ team from Walt Disney Animation got put directly on this. So glad I saw this thread the day BEFORE it airs, I might get a chance to check it out!
Saw it tonight and really enjoyed it - Dave Foley is great as “Wayne.” Even though it was from Walt Disney Animation instead of Pixar, it had a strong “Monsters, Inc.” vibe, as far as seeing the “inner workings” of the North Pole operation, the code names, the elves having “ordinary people” names, etc. It even had that [spoil] character meets cute kid and has change-of-heart[/spoil] thing going. If anything, it almost could have been expanded into a full hour. Nice work by MG, as usual.
Oh, and I loved the bit near the end when [spoil]Lanny had the wacky Christmas Tree hat on, with something dangling from it, and I thought, “Is that mistletoe hanging from his hat?” - Then the next time we see him, he has multiple lipstick prints on his face. Ha ha![/spoil]
I think it was good. I’d give it a B+ or A-. It was a bit predictable in plot at times, and, as someone mentioned before, a bit like Monster’s, Inc, but the concept was great, along with the visuals and voice acting.
Disney Channel is running some little “Prep & Landing” fillers between shows - just saw one shortly before 6 this morning, about Tiny trying to make coffee. I don’t know how many there are/will be. These are probably online, too (they put up the official website at the end of the short).
Ugh, rough week that dragged on, I was practically slumping around for the entirety of it waiting until last evening, can’t believe it slipped my mind.
I saw Prep and Landing when in Aired and loved every minute of it. Like karly05 said, It had a feel and basic plot that was similar to Monsters, Inc. But even so, I really loved the plot and wished they had extended it to an hour so we could better connect with the characters and such.
Just a PS, last week’s Nielsen ratings were published in the LA Times today: Prep & Landing did very well in the ratings. It tied (with NCIS) for 14th place of all shows for the week (over 100 shows). Beat Charlie Brown Christmas and a whole host of other shows.
A heads-up for our Aussie Pixar Planeteers - Prep & Landing is screening on Channel 7 at 7:30pm on Christmas night. I’m going to try my best to watch it, but I’ll most probably be busy at that time (understandably).
The opening title on screen is actually “Lanny & Wayne the Christmas Elves in Prep & Landing.” I’ve seen it a couple of times now, and it’s really grown on me; very cute.
