this picture was reviewed somewhere in the forum some time ago, and it shows ken in the blue bathrobe and gold tuxedo n barbie in gold dress. i am quite sure there is a new wave coming up, but do any one have any news of when it is going to happen?
Interesting.
I do recall seeing that photo, but I just assumed they were all customs created either by a mega-fan or by Mattel for display/promotion purposes only.
Is the photo from one of the conventions? Do you have a link to the original photo at all? There appears to be Toy Story 3 signage in the background and also a Jessie standee which indicates this may have been something put together by Mattel for display/promotion purposes only.
I’ve tried asking Mattel about their future Toy Story 3 Ken and Barbie releases at their official forums at mattycollector.com, but none of my questions have ever been answered. They’ve referred other Barbie related questions to barbiecollector.com, but being the idiot that I am, I can’t even find the forums at that website.
If it was from an official Mattel display, then with some extra information we could try asking Mattel for more details at mattycollector.com.
I’d definitely be interested in the gold/formal wear set and maybe even the “rock star” set (although I’d mainly only want the Ken). I don’t have any real interest in bathrobe/shaving Ken unless the shaving cream is removeable.
That is too cute! It even has the elevator!
If they really make that dreamhouse, I’m getting it!
The actual dream house just appears to be a re-paint of a standard Barbie dream house as seen here:
as it is from an exhibition kind of thing, i think it is somethg official, dont think it is somthg made by fan. n i dont think mattel makes the costume just for promotion/exhibition. so i do hope it is gonna happen.
on the other hand, i think the pink barbie dress didnt show up in the movie (correct me if i’m wrong). i do hope it is a barbie costume to go with rock star ken to sell in the same pack - i really want another wave of barbie and ken!!!
the ken dream house is yellow/white instead of pink/white. i doubt the yellow/white dream house will be out.
Do you have a link to the original photo at all and/or details of which exhibition the photo was taken at?
Mattel is more likely to respond to questions if they have plenty of information to go on.
As for the pink dress Barbie, I don’t think she showed up in that in the movie either, although I can’t recall all the various outfits she wore at the end of the film, so it is possible the pink dress is one of those outfits. She was wearing an outfit with a pink jacket at the end (based on one of the official photos), but that could be a different outfit.
It would make sense that the “rock star” Ken/Barbie is a two-pack since there appears to be little reason to include that Barbie if it wasn’t based on her appearance in TS3. After all, they didn’t make a bath-robe Barbie to go with the bath-robe Barbie.
Good suggestions, and I hope they made the gold clothes. Anwyays, I don’t remember Barbie’s pink dress in the movie either. Though, does anyone else think it looks a little like Bo Peep’s?
anyone noitice the aliens?
i’ve found the original album for that photo:

or

it is from a mattel exhibition from Toy Story Fun Zone in El Capitan Theatre:
“Toy Story 3” and Fun Zone
El Capitan Theatre
June 18-Aug. 29
Admission: Adults ($20); Matinee ($18); Children ages 3-11 / Adults ages 60+ ($16)
in the toy story fun zone, there is a mattel area showing mattel lines of toys (actionlinks, adult’s collection, 6’’ figures, etc…) the image below shows logos for toy story and mattel in the background:
so I am quite sure now it’s from mattel. can anyone give a hand on asking mattel about the release?
^^^^
Thanks for the extra information.
You could try posting a new “topic” in the “Ask Matty” section of the forums at www.mattycollector.com:

I’ve already posted a question about these Ken and Barbie dolls, but another question couldn’t hurt.
It appears that the main Mattel representative who responds to the questions in this forum does not deal with Toy Story products, but he has stated that the Toy Story brand managers will be checking and responding to questions from time to time (although to date, I don’t think there have been any responses to Toy Story questions).
thx agent 86!! i’ll have a go…
Odd question. The answers to your question would greatly depend on his age.
I think it’s quite common for young boys (around 3-4 years old) to want to dress up like princesses or fairies or other traditionally “female” costumes, including Barbie. It seems particularly true if the young boy has many female influences (for example, only sisters) because he basically just wants to join in with what everyone else is doing.
As for Halloween, I’d probably encourage him to dress-up like Ken instead of Barbie. Then again, it would probably depend upon which Barbie he wants to dress as. I’d be more comfortable dressing a young boy as “Doctor” Barbie in a white lab coat, etc than “Malibu” Barbie in a bikini.
At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that many gender attributes are just social constructs. Once upon a time little boys were meant to be dressed in “pink” while little girls were meant to be dressed in “blue”. Fashions changed and now “pink” is for girls and “blue” is for boys.
As for asking for “girls” toys, I don’t think that’s an issue at all. If he wants a Barbie doll, then buy him a Barbie doll. I think they’ve recently released a “computer engineer” Barbie. Maybe grab him a Ken and/or an Action Man as well. My mum loves to remind me about how I supposedly threw a major tantrum as a small child because I wanted some “baby doll” that I’d seen in the store. I ended up getting the doll (not that I remember it), but it didn’t make me stop also wanting toy cars, building blocks, etc.
Good luck with your son.
I personally find nothing wrong with boys or men dressing in traditionally girl colors like pink or purple. As for Barbie, please note that even Ken himself considers himself a “manly role model” and a “boy’s toy”.
I mean seriously, there are several men here who have dolls- i.e. Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Bo Peep etc, which are all technically dolls. Nobody faults a young girl for playing with trucks or cars, but whoa nellie if a young boy wants a Barbie.
Hey, Barbie’s hot. “She’s a Barbie doll Ken, there’s a million just like her,” “Not to me there’s not”
That says it all -Omar
i have a sneaky feeling that these dolls from ken and barbie are coming out soon, since the original ken’s blue bathrobe costume does not comes with shiny pants… just like great shape barbie original version with no shine vs remade great shape barbie with shiny clothes…
really hope they make all this in that pic lo l
