I liked the radio message cause some people might see it as speaking about the state of animation in general. Like the short itself daring to try something new and be different from the norm.
Man, I saw this in IMAX, a few days ago, and, I’ve to say it was unbelievably amazing!
I loved the way that they combined the 2-D drawn characters, with the 3-D backgrounds within them (although, I know that’s what everybody thinks about the film ), and it looked pretty decent in 3-D, too.
I also liked how [spoil]the characters would never actually talk to each other, but the things that were going on inside of them, in the background, (such as the animals howling, chirping, etc.) would basically be their dialogue, in a way.[/spoil]
To be honest, though, [spoil]I agree with Bryko614 about the radio broadcast, it wasn’t really worth putting something like that in a dialogue-less short.[/spoil]
Nonetheless, I enjoyed the short a lot and it is now my favorite Pixar short film!
I agree that the [spoil]radio broadcast[/spoil] felt out of place. But when you think about it, how else would they of presented the moral of the story to the characters?
I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with everyone above me. [spoil]The whole radio broadcast thing wasn’t unnecessary or out of place; it was very crucial to the plot. It was absolutely needed to convey the message that both Day and Night were cruelly judging each other and they absolutely HAD to put their their differences aside. It really did work, at least in my opinion. [/spoil]
Anyway, other than that, I was literally blown away when I saw this in theaters today. It was such an unusual concept for a short film, but in the end, it turned out very lovely. I loved the 2D and 3D mix. It was so unique, and I really enjoyed it!
I agree! That was one of my favorite scenes. My friends and I all saw it together, and whenever we hang out, someone always brings up that short and how much they laughed!
My mom took me for my belated birthday gift, but we didn’t technically have money to go at all, so the rest of my family had to stay home. I loved the short!! My mom took forever to get ready, and I was afraid I might miss it D:
I liked that too!
I also love how the characters were designed, how they were animated, and how they reacted to things. They had a Tex Avery feel to them, which I loved!
I enjoyed the short very much. I thought it was very clever how they did that and I like that it had a little point to make. Made you think without getting preachy.
I have to say I was a little disappointing because I usually laugh a lot when I’m watching pixar shorts, but I didn’t think it was all that funny, and it got a little boring towards the end. However I do think it’s a very clever idea and they did a great job on the animation (As usual ). I think it was a good short film, it just wasn’t my style.
I think it will surely win because of the technical advances it brings. But I won’t say that for sure until I see the competitors. When I saw Logorama last year I knew there was no chance for the others.
I saw Day and Night for the 2nd time last night, and the first time I thought it was just pretty cool, now I love it! Now I completely understand it and it’s just awesome now. Also, I’ve had Michael Giacchino’s awesome work stuck in my head ever since!
