Ah, yes! that one too!
Iām wondering how well itāll work in 2D, because the 3D effect was absolutely amazing (making the backgrounds inside the characters really seem far off in the distance, really really impressive use of the technology). I might try to catch a 2D showing at some point and check it out, but Iām not sure how brilliant itāll seem in comparison, which concerns me a little for the Blu Ray release.
Loved the short anyway though, very cleverly done.
I saw it in 2D, and it was still amazing.
In Japan, we can buy Day & Night book at Amazon Japan. I canāt seem to find the English version of Day & Night at Amazon.com.
I donāt know why Amazon doesnāt have the English version, but you can find it at Chronicle Books
chroniclebooks.com/index/mai ā¦ amp-Night/
Itās 40 pages and is in hardcover.
I just saw it last night.
Although I believe there were some parts where the humor couldāve been better, I was blown away. This is my new favorite short.
The particular scene of [spoil]Night and Day listening to the radio tower talking of mysterious beauty[/spoil] stunned me to silence and near-tears. It was compelling, and there was no better way of describing their relationship.
I just realized something. Shouldnāt this sticky be called Day and Night instead of Night and Day?
Huh, yeah! Good catch K9 Girl.
As for the 2D/ 3D thing, there was really something missing in the 2D version (image wise; the story was still very enjoyable). Normally I donāt like 3D although this short was meant for it. Itās obviously hard to describe what I saw, but the best way I can put it is that the imagery was just pleasant as opposed to spectacular.
Oh man read all the none spoiler things on this post and Iām just going nuts for this short! I wanna see it and I wanna see it now! But I gotta wait another month, the curse of living in Swedenā¦
Letās just hope my hopes are not too high but from what you guys said it seems more awesome then I thought!
Oh, my. I love your country so much.
Itās a pity your cinemas always are late.
oh wow thanks Spirit of Adventure haha thatās cool!
yeah itās a shame but Iāll survive [/b]
This slipped by me. Teddy Newton was in the Hiroshima 2010 International Animation Festival in Japan. There was a screening of Day & Night and seminar on August 8th. Also, Teddy Newton gave an exclusive interview. You can read the interview on a file from the festival website. Go to page three, right side.

Edit:
Found one more tidbit. Says here when Teddy Newton went to Rome he saw the Vatican Palace through a key hole and that inspired him to make Day & Night.

BTW, precisely on August 8th, 2010, when it was starting day at 5:26am in Hiroshima, Japan it was starting night at 6:26pm in Joao Camara, Brazil.
Hereās a picture of the Blue Impulse, which use Japanese Kawasaki T4ās, performing the āSunriseā stunt, where the jets spread out like the rays of the rising sun.

Thereās a part in Day & Night short film where Day pumps his biceps and the I think Bell X-1 supersonic planes do a āSunriseā stunt.
Also, in the Day & Night book by Teddy Newton, which I own, Day pumps his biceps or Day is just waking up. Anyways, five jets āzoom!ā skyward from a rising sun.
Loved the shortā¦especially intriguing is what could prove to be a move away from anthropomorphism. Realizing fully that the Day and Night characters are anthropomorphised, the concepts of Day and Night are still rather abstract. One wonders if Pixar is realizing that there are only so many types of animal/character/situation that can be given āthe treatment.ā Might we see human emotion and resonance from completely non-human and non-anthropomorphised ācharactersā? Stay tuned!
Cheers! Steve
Not suprisingly, This short has been nominated for āBest Animated Shortā at the 2011 Academy Awards.
Iām actually pleasently surprised. I thought after Partly Cloudy the short wouldnāt get a nomination. I assumed that five other shorts would be released this year that were better. Congratulations Teddy Newton, the short is sure to win.
I was certain it would be nominated, Pixar has done quite a bit of publicity for this short (I saw 'For Your Consideration" ads everywhere) And it is so different and wild, and got great reviews. I just hope it wins!
I hope it wins, too. Day & Night is one of my favorite Pixar shorts.
^ Yes. And itās a great technical achievement. It should win.
Heehee, yes you should! (I knows you meant āitā)
