Well I guess since this is owned by Disney it counts as a Disney movie. So I guess i’ll put it here. Sorry if this has been mentioned already but I honestly didnt see a thread about it yet.
So finally Nightmare Before Christmas has been released (came out yesterday) on DVD and Blu-Ray after being out of print for quite some time. That’s why I was so excited to get it because I didnt have my own copy. All I had was clips off YouTube.
Anyway, the DVD is shiny (meaning it’s kinda fancy looking). At first I thought it was one of those ultra-special editions that usually go for like, $50. It’s actually a 2-disc DVD! Yay! There’s quite a few bonus features, including a Tim Burton short, trailers, a Tim Burton featurette, concept art, animation tests, a “Making of Nightmare…” documentary, Haunted Mansion ride-throughs, etc. And yes, there’s even sound the fanfare a commentary! I’ve watched everything but the commentary and I gotta say they did a pretty nice job. Of course I would have liked even more, but I think i got spoiled with the Monsters Inc DVD. But never realized till now how tedious that filming process must have been! And I loved the Haunted Mansion ride-throughs. It reminded me of when I went this past summer, even though they used the Disneyland one.
Sounds interesting and I’m pretty sure there are more special features. If so I wouldn’t mind getting it, though I already have the movie on DVD (well I own two differnt DVD’s of Disney’s Peter Pan). But I shouldn’t get my hopes too high. The only fancy DVDs in Germany are Platinum DVDs and, well, German movies.
Ha! Oh yeah, I forgot that this film is out on DVD already. My sister is gonna go nuts; she’s been waiting for the thing to be released on DVD for years…
The only special features I’m looking forward to seeing on the disc set is the Frankenweenie short and the WALL-E trailer. I’ll leave my sister to wallow in the rest of her Tim Burton fandom. (snigger)
I saw the DVD at Wal-Mart yesterday and it was huge, I hope the WALL-E DVD/Blu-ray is like that!! A new WALL-E DVD trailer? Oh, that’s cool, I may have to rent it just for that now! Does the trailer have any mention/footage of BURN-E?
Lizardgirl-I’m not sure why it’s been out of print really, although one of friends said it had to do with the 3D showings they’ve had of it in recent years.
Well Sorry to disappoint, but I didnt say the WALL-E trailer was new. I think it’s the same kind we’ve seen before, only they stuck “Coming soon to DVD and Blu-Ray” at the end. Hope i didnt burst people’s bubbles too badly.
Something else I forgot to mention, it also comes with a third disc called Disney Digital Copy. I’ve only just heard about this, so I’m not all that familiar with it, but I guess you can take the disc and put it in your computer to make a digital copy of it. I guess then you can transfer it to iPods and things.
something else I forgot to mention! Joe Ranft also makes an appearance, for about 20 seconds, in the “Making of…” documentary (obviously this was taped some time ago. From the look of things, probably around the time the movie was coming out) And Pixar and John Lasseter I believe are mentioned in the commentary.
Yeah, I just got the new DVD about a two weeks ago for my birthday. It’s really cool. A lot better than the original DVD. PixarPixie The Oogie Boogie song is one of my favorite songs from the movie. Ken Page did a really good job on his voice.
Boogie’s song is great! I love to sing along to it. But a good villain song is usually fun anyway. I actually found on YouTube a live version of Ken Page doing this song, and it sounds almost the same as the recording Here’s the link for anyone who wants to look:
