Oakland Museum: PIXAR 25 Years

I didn’t see a topic of this posted anywhere else, so I hope you guys don’t mind.

Starting on July 31st, the Oakland Museum of California is going to host the largest PIXAR Art exhibition in the world: PIXAR 25 Years of Animation! I’m super, super excited about this! It’s the first time that this exhibition will be in the California Bay Area and the museum is going to be showcasing artwork, color scripts, and that amazing Pixar Zoetrope that was shown in the Toy Story DVDs. Also, to top it off, it will be featuring art from Pixar’s latest films WALL-E, Up, and Toy Story 3!

To say the least, I am completely ecstatic about this! I’ll be going their as soon as possible, driving a Pizza Planet Truck, along with my EVE blimp, my M-O cleaning robot, and my Luxo Jr. lamp!

I remember wanting to go and see this when it was in London, but I didn’t have the chance at the time, unfortunately. Hope you enjoy it when you go and see it, Pixar Builder!

I’m going to move this thread into the Pixar Studios section of the boards, as it’s not necessarily about Toy Story.

Ok, sorry about that lizardgirl. I just didn’t know the exact place to post this.

And yeah, I’m just so completely thrilled that this event will be coming to California just before I have to head back for college in Vancouver. It supposed to be really cool and stuff.

I’m going to be heading out to the exhibit tomorrow (!) for the first opening time at 11:00 AM (!!). Am I a diehard or what?

I’ll be sure to (hopefully) upload tons of pictures on my Flickr account and post the link here.

That’s awesome KayGayBee! Yeah, I too originally planned for going on Saturday, but ultimately couldn’t because I’d be working that day. Thankfully, though I’ll be going Sunday, and will be bringing a ton of my namesake PIXAR Builds, which I also brought to the San Mateo County Maker Faire 2010!

KayWhosaWhattie? :open_mouth:

If you’re going on Sunday, I’d recommend leaving early. VERY early. Free day is usually swamped, and with Pixar being there…it’ll be as crowded as Comic-Con on preview night!

I’m going sometime this fall, with my friends. We’re planning on maybe September or October. It will be epic. The Oakland Museum of California has been posting great pictures on their facebook of the exhibit, makes me even more excited! Another fun stop to do if you’re in the area is to visit Fentons Creamery, as in the ice Cream store in Up. It’s a couple of miles away from the museum.

This exhibit sounds beyond excellent! I’m so jealous of all you Californians; too bad I am stuck on the east coast.

You better tell us how it is ellie-jessie-eve!

Yeah, I’m planning on leaving SUPER early on Sunday- like 9:00 am early. My main concern is being able to find parking, so I think as long as I leave early, I should hopefully arrive at least around 10:30.

So what exhibits are you guys most looking forward to seeing? Personally, I can’t wait to see that awesome Zoetrope that’s been featured on their Toy Story 2 DVD.

love70ways: I’ll be sure too! They need to do another tour of the exibit, with a stop in Boston! If I see any Pixarians, I’ll tell them everyone at Pixar Planet says Hi!

Pixar Builder: I’ve seen the Zoetroph before! The Toy Story one was once housed in the Animation building at California Adventure. You won’t be dissapointed.

Gah! The zoetrope looks so amazing!

Here’s a video of the zoetroph:

To quote Rex: “Oooh! I CAN HARDLY WAIT!”

I’ve been waiting 5 years to see this exhibit! When they first announced it would be at MoMA 5 years ago, I thought it was San Francisco’s MoMA, even though it was New York’s. It’s finally in the Bay, just a few miles from where they created the magic and right where it deserves to be.

I admire the Pixar artists because they create art the same way Remy enjoys to cook, and I am so excited. I will be attending opening day, tomorrow morning. Life is good.

Guys, I just thought of this! If they have some sort of Guest Book, we should totally sign it with our ScreenNames from Pixar Planet! You know, sort of like an inside greeting to each other!

Wow, that’s a great idea! They should have one of those books! Lots of museums do, why not this one?

Yeah, I think they definitely have one, or at least should. I think it would be a really fun way to kind of Shout Out to the rest of the Pixar Planet posters. We could even have our own private insignia or something, like the Alien with a Flag or something.

Fer reals! It sounds like you’re going before I am, so you should decide what it’ll be

Ok, I’ll be going on Sunday and will have a definite shout out to Pixar Planet written in the Museum’s guest book. Feel free to take a picture or something if you see it!

Sounds amazing! You’ll have to tell us all about it!
