Odd Hobbies

Aside from collecting Pixar/Disney/other merchandise, I have another hobby that most

people would think is odd.

I collect soundtracks to video games, primarily Nintendo games. I have

soundtracks from just about every system, from the very first Super Mario Bros. game for NES to Kingdom Hearts

for PS2. I have a total of about 65 soundtracks plus songs from about 35 other games. Some of the songs are

awesome band renditions, but I prefer the real thing.

My latest acquisition (which was a few minutes ago)

was the complete soundtrack to TMNT IV: Turtles In Time for SNES, but my favorite soundtrack of all is from

Rocket Knight Adventures for Sega Genesis.

I know there are people out there who deem downloading music

for free as wrong, but when the music I’m getting is years old, rare, and often only available in Japan, I take

full advantage of it.

And now I ask…are there any hobbies of yours that are kinda bizarre? If so,

please share! I don’t wanna be the only oddball here. ;-o

~~=oP

No way – you do that, too? (sniggers) And here I

thought that my sister and I were the only ones who like to listen to video game soundtracks!

Unfortunately, the only way that we know how to listen to video game soundtracks (and mainly PC games, in

general) is to pop them into our boom box/radio and play them from there. Some of them – such as Frogger, Croc,

and others – will play, and some of them won’t, but it’s still fun to test them out one-by-one.

I

also collect pens/pencils, key rings, rat-related items, and other various items. I’ll think of more later.

Thanks for bringing up another awesome subject, PixarVixen!

It’s not really odd to me, but it may be to others.

xD

i cosplay. Meaning I make costumes. I’mjust starting, and still learning, but it’ quite fun,

actually. XD I wear them to anime conventions. Sometimes it’s good to release your nerd. XD

Well,

it’s not something I do quite as regularly any more, since school’s gotten a lot more intense, but speaking of

“releasing your nerd,” I read A Brief History of Time as pleasure reading

in the seventh or eighth grade, and got about halfway through The Elegant Universe

last year before lack of free time forced me to sort of just put it down and not pick it back up in the longest

time. I’ve been thinking about it lately, although I still don’t think I’m going to have any more time to

do anything with it other than think about it. So, yeah, reading theoretical physics books would be my odd

hobby.

Also, I enjoy playing sports video games and doing the Dynasty mode and simming every game. I

doubt it’s all that uncommon, but sports games kind of are meant to be actually

played. :unamused: I’d also play fantasy hockey if I knew anybody who would want to play it with me; seeing all the

kids at my school in fantasy football leagues with each other makes me kind of want to only do it if I actually

knew the other people I was playing against. Probably someday in the future I’ll give it a shot.

“Nerd-releasers” are cool.

I just

remembered two other old “hobbies” of mine, both of which I still participate in

occasionally…

The first would be “movie spoofing”. Whenever my

sister and I get extremely bored – and feel in a crazy mood – we begin to spoof popular or unpopular

films…just for the fun of it. For an example of this, let’s take the movie Cars,

and say that my sister and I are about to spoof the scene where Lightning discovers Doc’s numerous trophies. My

sister, Leia, who would be playing Lightning, would act overly-surprised when finding the three Piston Cups,

jumping backwards and clinging onto tables for support due to the wave of emotions flooding through

“Lightning” (my sister). Similar reactions would be played out with other characters as well, until it

gets crazy to the point of “ridiculousness”. :stuck_out_tongue:

The second would be "film

acting". Simply said, my sister and I will select a movie (say…The Lion

King), choose the characters we want to play, and “act out” the whole movie as it is. We

usually do this on Fridays, when mom and dad are out and can’t laugh at us.

Sweet!

You say you have the Croc

soundtrack? If there’s a particular soundtrack you’re looking for, I’ll see if I have it. We could make

copies and trade! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and

Wink" />

~~=oP

PixarVixen - Haha – yeah, I have the old Croc games (one

and two)! I don’t have the soundtrack itself, but if I pop the game itself (which

is a CD-rom) into a radio/cd player, then it will play all the soundtracks that are on the disc…without ruining

the disc itself. Kinda cool, huh?

Yeah, we should! Is copying/trading legal? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahh. That works with my Sega CD games. I can play them in a CD player and listen to

the songs.

The songs I download are with a file sharing program called SoulSeek. I also use LimeWire. I

suppose trading would be legal.

Well, I have hobbies,

and I have wierd hobbies. Here is my list of “wierd”

hobbies:

Write Incredibles fanfics,
Make Incredibles music videos,
Play Incredibles

songs from the soundtrack,
Collect Incredibles merchandise,
Talk about the

Incredibles,
Am I missing anything? I get the feeling I’m forgeting something.

xD

Have I started something with my ‘nerd-releasing’ line?

Ha, I used to do the ‘film acting’ bit

with my friend all the time, a few years ago. XD I act out musical songs now… Heh.

I’d call it

geek-releasing”. The term nerd refers to someone that is

“single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits”.

DElf: I seriously need to

start letting you do my Modern Physics homework.

Hmm, I was going to get into

Laserdisc’s. I just love the nostalgia to them.

In case you don’t know what they are, they are the

forerunner to DVD’s, the first optical video format. And not the mention the disc’s look mega

cool.

Laserdisc and

DVD.

Player

(Pioneer were the main, er, Pioneers of the format,

LOL.

Toy story the

only movie released on the format from Pixar.

Hmm, weird hobbies…? thinks I have lots of wierd little obsessions, but not

hobbies, per say. I make plushies- sometimes Pixar ones- but that’s not really wierd. I think I’ll have to come

back to you on this one.

I

wouldn’t really call what I do, hobbies…maybe I would…? I don’t reall know haha. I do alot of weird things,

from riding my horse bareback with no shoes, to running around the house and jumping over objects in the way

haha.

I

collect tarantulas and other spiders, and scorpions, and breed several species of non-venomous snakes. I also

collect coffee mugs, since I sort of have an addiction to coffee. I’ve also really gotten into photographing

arachnids.

pitbulllady

Man,

what is it with this place? I step out for a few months and I come back to find that everyone collects video game

soundtracks. I thought for sure that I would be the only one.

In fact, I’m listening to stuff from Tales

of the Abyss as I type this. It’s a rather hit-and-miss soundtrack, but the hits are excellent.

Other odd

hobbies? I dunno. I understand that I have some odd mannerisms, but my hobbies are

actually fairly normal.

Edit: Removed the word ‘currently’ because redundancy that is not

ironic makes me cry.

You too? Rock on!

I’m searching for new Nintendo music at this very

moment.

~~=oP

Yeah, me too, and it’s really nice to

see someone else do it for a change.

I’ve been collecting video game soundtracks for probably eight years

now, and I don’t really delete anything, so my collection is taking up an awful lot of my space on my

computer.

It’s worth it, I think. I always have something to listen to.

raises hand I love video game soundtracks.

Furthermore, I love theme songs. I have a playlist of theme songs on my computer, and it is amazing. It

has quite the range: Star Wars, Myst, Legend of Zelda, Batman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Animaniacs, Where in the

World is Carmen Sandiego, Firefly… you get the picture.

I hang out with Stormtroopers for fun. No, I’m

not joking. I’m a member of the Rebel Legion, Midwest Base. We serve as costumed volunteers at various and

sundry Star Wars-related events, some of which are Lucasfilm sponsored, some of which are not. Coolest thing

I’ve ever volunteered for is the Cincinatti Pops Star Wars Spectacular concert, narrated by Anthony Daniels. So

very, very awesome. And hey, I get to run around while little kids call me Princess Amidala, which suits me

fine.

I’m also a technology junkie. I got a 200GB hard drive for my birthday, and that did more to

soothe a recently broken heart than copious amounts of chocolate. Plus, I have two computers to my name and may

very well pick up a third in the near future. And I will talk for hours on end

about computer hardware fun things with people. This is surprising to many people I talk to, because I am, as

one person so delicately put it “small, and… girly.”

Oh yeah,

and I write reams upon reams of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic fan fiction. Screw normal eras with

characters people recognize, I wanna write about the video games. :stuck_out_tongue:
