Olympics 2008

Thanks PV. I totally forgot to do that.
I’m still kind of jazzed though.

The newest Olympic Google logo:

You know, is it me, or does it look like they might be using animals off of the Chinese Zodiac? It looks that way to me! That’s pretty clever…

I know! When I first heard it, I was like, “Am I imagining this?”

I saw a little bit of gymnastics and diving. I thought that it was good copetition. China is still Gods of the Diving Board though.

The coolest parts about watching swimming tonight:

[spoiler]1. Watching the US beat France in the men’s 100m freestyle relay, who had been doing some trash talking. Direct quote: “We’re going to smash the Americans.” (Even more poetic is the fact that the swimmer who made those remarks, Alain Bernard, was the one swimming the last leg of the relay.)

  1. Watching the US beat France by .08 seconds. This is roughly twice the time it takes you to blink your eyes.

  2. Watching the US get a gold medal. (This makes Michael Phelps 2-for-2 in the Games so far.)

  3. Watching the US get a world record to go with that gold medal. (Actually, you know it’s a good race when even the 5th place team broke the old world record.)[/spoiler]

China’s Mens gymnastic team is terrifying. Their biceps are the size of cantaloupes. o.O

Yes!
I think the United Kingdom are doing really good in the Olympics!
But I still want the US to win it, haha.

I can keep up with some parts here and there of the Olympics, but I can’t catch everything.

Michael Phelps just [spoil] won the gold in the men’s 200m freestyle and broke another world record![/spoil]

Again? XD Good for him!

I saw Men’s Syncro Platform Diving.[spoil] The Chinese won, although there were a lot of spectacular dives.[/spoil]

Was watching men’s gymnastic team finals. Oh my gosh, I about died watching the Americans do [spoil]those flips and twists[/spoil] on high bar.

Somewhat just finished watching the Gymnastics… That was really great! Of course, [spoil]China won Gold, but they well deserved it. The rings performance that they did was my favourite, but everything overall was really cool. Especially the floor routines as well. :stuck_out_tongue: [/spoil]

But now I’m watching the Womens Synchro Diving… [spoil]and us Canadians didn’t do so well… again.[/spoil]

I saw the Mens Gymnastics last night and I was really happy with the results. [spoil]China was fantastic. I was like “HOLY COW”. USA did pretty well, even without their star gymnast.[/spoil]

I didn’t happen to catch which event I just watched, but the American men’s swim team [spoil]broke a world record by 5 seconds[/spoil]!

I’m so happy for Michael Phelps right now. He’s a cool guy and he definitely deserved it.

I saw the Womens Syncro Diving. [spoil]China is now 3 for 3 in the diving sport. It was great competition. Kinda got a little intense as well. Some teams needed to make every dive count to have a shot at the medal placement.[/spoil]

I wish Thorpie (Ian Thorpe) hadn’t retired. He would have been the only Aussie who would have had a chance against Michael Phelps…

What are everyone’s favourite events to watch? Mine would be swimming, gymnastics, basketball and diving.

TSS: why put spoiler tags on Olympics stuff? It’s not like a movie where people have to go see it and then know what happens. It’s on TV. If they miss it, they miss it. (At least for this one, unless they have something like Tivo, which most people don’t.) People want to know what’s going on. You won’t spoil anything for them. They didn’t see that part and most likely the channel won’t replay the entire Olympics.

Just my perspective. Sorry if I was rambling a bit there.

rachelcakes: my favorite has been gymnastics so far. It’s pretty amazing what those people can do with their bodies.

The Olympics is broadcasted worldwide, so people in certain time zones will be able to watch it before others.
