Olympics 2008

Why are you point at me TS2. I ain’ the only one doing it.

rachel: My favorites have been basketball, fencing, diving, swimming, water polo and gymnastics.

Oh, and my favorite events are the ones Michael Phelps participates in. Heheh. I can’t take my eyes off of him. He is phenomenal. ;-p

Well, I’m just sayin’, for EVERYONE, it doesn’t make a whole lotta sense to pretend Olympics events people haven’t seen are spoilers.

Sorry if u felt ‘singled out’.

The Olympics occur once every 2 years, and the Summer Games and the Winter Games alternate each time. The whole world watches these events with great anticipation, and some home viewers (myself included) record whatever they aren’t able to watch as it airs live. The last thing they want is a spoiler.

I was heartbroken over the story of the little girl who wasn’t ‘cute’ enough to perform on stage at the Olympics. That’s just horrible. In the words of a Chinese blogger, “You’re twisting an entire generation…”

I full heartedly agree!! It’s really sad when they need to “mask” the talent that the little girl has, just to keep the “image” of China…

As to favourites, I would go with Synchro Diving (just so cool!), Gymnastics, Swimming, the Kayaking thing (can’t remember what that was called, but that was awesome too), and maybe Archery if I could actually see the event, but I always seem to miss it. :unamused:

Thirded!

Fourthed.

Uh…fifthed?
My brother just told me that news…I basically went on a rant on how talent nowadays has been sidelined in place of looks. I don’t care if you’re fat or slim, pretty or ugly, show me what you got and impress me with your talent, and I’ll respect you and be a loyal fan of your work, be it singing, dancing, drawing, making films, etc. I seriously thought that lip-syncher was the real deal, I even remarked that she should prepare to be swamped by endorsement deals and requests for ad appearances…to know it was all a scam…
The world today is too caught up with appearances to notice that it’s what inside that counts. Sounds cliched, I know, but what else can you say?

I saw gymnastics last night. I[spoil] was really exccited to see the chinese perform all of those incredible moves. However, it was the mistakes that the Americans made that cost them a gold medal. Still, there were some incredible performances.[/spoil]

I’ve heard about that swimming dude from America- the amazing guy with the most golds ever. It’s sort of scary. I love how, when he won his tenth gold, he actually looked rather annoyed with himself because he didn’t win the race by a huge amount.

Based on his post-4x200-freestyle-relay interview, what happened was that he got water in his goggles when he first started the race, and they just kept filling up. This is almost like flying blind for a swimmer. I saw a clip of him talking to his coach after the race, and you could read his lips saying “I couldn’t see a thing.” That also could explain the pinched look he had on his face - he still had to try and see where he was going so he didn’t crash into the wall, so his eyes might have been stinging. And yes, he also believed he could go faster, but obviously he can’t do that if he can’t see properly.

Apparently Michael Phelps can get a world record even with his eyes closed, so to speak.

It’s weird to think that I watched Olympic history last night. Of course, milestones like that don’t come around all the time… and he still has a shot at three more gold medals. When I’m old and grey, I can tell my grandkids that I watched the greatest Olympian of all time.

They just showed a recap of [spoil]all 11 of Michael Phelps’s gold medal wins[/spoil] beginning with his first in 2004 at Athens. Whatta man!

Thanks a lot. Do you know how hard it is to get a song out of your mind?

Woo!

I wanted to post the monkey. Heheh.

That looks so cool and at the same time, a little painful too PV. I like it.

Does anyone else agree that China’s representative for women’s badminton seems a little…off? I don’t know, she looks tired.

It’s still pretty epic though.

And the next Olympic Google theme: Dragon and Rat. I like, I like.

Jaiki: I think that’s the best Olympic Google Doodle so far!

Awww, a rat doesn’t stand a chance playing against a dragon… …I love it. Mwahahaha.
