I’m leaving with my cousins to go to an amusement park called Kennywood, and I packed my mom’s portable TV. I wouldn’t miss Michael Phelps’s potentially historical race for the world!
MAN WHAT IS IT WITH MICHEAL PHELPS!!!
its like he is destined to win 8 golds
We’re supposed to go to a housewarming party tonight, and we’re planning on bugging the hosts (our good friends) to put his race on TV. There’s no way I’m missing this piece of Olympic history!
[spoil]I was dancing foot to foot during Lezak’s part. Absolutely magnificent. Congrats USA. Congrats Phelps.[/spoil]
[spoil]Phelps Did it. Phelps Got 8 Gold metals. Phelps is the first person to win 8 metals in one Olympics.
YEAHOOOOOOOOOOOO! [/spoil]
[spoil]YES! GO USA! Michael Phelps made this the most exciting Olympics in history!! I’m with you all the way Haunt; I had to jump out of my seat in the relay and what followed was our own little family victory party. United States is swelling with pride. This is us![/spoil]
But what’s the deal with hiding the truth? If people don’t want to know what happened they shouldn’t check up on the Olympics thread! (duh) I want to scream this stuff to the world!
lol, Whenever a swimming event starts my dad repeats, “Australia is dangerous. Very dangerous.” It’s funny how that gives it the edge, but we still rally up the folks with, “Come on, Michael Phelps is gonna win another gold medal!”
Like it’s inevitable.

We got to watch the race at our friends’ house - a bunch of us were all giddy and on pins and needles while we watched. [spoil]And then Jason Lezak jumped in the water… and then the screaming started.
Gotta admit, we’re still pretty giddy. My little sister and I were still jumping up and down in joy long after the race was over.[/spoil]
However, there is still one more hurdle Phelps needs to overcome. Larissa Latynina, a Soviet gymnast from the 50s and 60s, has 18 Olympic medals to her credit, making her the athlete with the most Olympic medals (gold, silver or bronze) ever. Phelps only has 16 (it’s the 14 gold medals that has everyone calling him the greatest Olympian ever). But short of a complete and utter shutdown (though a lot can happen in four years), he only needs three medals to pass her, and they don’t even have to be gold.
My bro and I were planning to go the city, and just before we were to leave, he told me to wait to have a look at Phelps’ swimming event. “We could be watching history in the making,” he told me.
Needless to say, I most certainly witnessed it a few minutes later. I told him “online forums will be ablaze with this news.” I didn’t get to see much of the crowd reaction, but it wasn’t as crazy as I expected it to be. I (and probably the rest of the USA) probably had a gut feel he was gonna get it anyway. It couldn’t be any other way.
Congrats Mr Phelps and USA, that was truly phenomenal! ![]()
I loooooove the Olympics! It’s the only sports thing I really really get into. That being said, I loooooove Michael Phelps! He’s just great! And you know, he’s got all those medals and he’s still a really nice guy. He doesnt seem uppity at all. I do follow the swimming most, so Ryan Lochte, Aaron Piersol, Jason Lezak (there’s someone I never heard of before this, but quite the hero he is!) I’ve been cheering for all those guys. And Dara Torres, way to go! Rebecca Soni, another person I didnt know till now.
Let’s see, who else? I was soooo happy the men’s gymnastics team got bronze! I was hoping Jonathan Horton would get an individual medal but I see potential in him. I miss the Hamm twins not being there though.
…you guys are going to hate me. but I am SICK of Micheal Phelps! You turn on the news covering the olympics and all they can talk about is Micheal Phelps Michael Phelps Michael Phelps, etc. I feel really bad for the guys who keep getting beat by him by just a hundredth of a second. They don’t get any interviews/news coverage/recognition when they’ve raced just as well as Phelps, only couldn’t touch the wall first.
Did anyone catch the butterfly style race the other night?[spoil] I SO wanted the Serbian to win, and it totally looked like he was going to because he was ahead of Phelps the whole time, but at the end, Phelps touched the wall first. The times were Phelps 50.58 and Cavic 50.59. I don’t call that a fair win. I basically call that a tie![/spoil]
Anyway, feel free to disagree, but that’s just how I feel about it!
I’m going to be watching the rhythmic gymnastics if I can catch it. It’s mostly on while I’m at school. And I’m sad that I haven’t seen any archery all this time! But hopefully there’ll be more.

Sheila: It’s not Michael Phelps that’s the problem, it’s the news.
Well, in the media’s defense (a stance I don’t often take), pursuing eight gold medals and in the process winning more golds than any modern Olympic athlete ever is something that hasn’t happened before, and who knows how likely it is to happen in the future.
But don’t worry - Michael mania is likely to settle down soon, given that swimming is over, and now it’s time for track and field. Meanwhile, Michael seriously needs to take a vacation. I mean, has he even seen the sights in Beijing?!?
We’re third. We’re never third.
Just going to make the most of the moment, seeing as it’s like never going to happen again. ![]()
I’m not a big Olympics fan, but I do love watching the gymnastics. The routines they do are astonishing, and the way that even a slight mistake can cost them dear points makes the whole thing even more exciting.
It is official. Michael Phelps is a super. ![]()
^ anticipates PV actually drawing that

If he’s a super, he needs a super name. I suggest Riptide, because it’s water, and it sounds fast.
Now he needs a supersuit… someone call Edna!
Call me Edna, dahling. <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and
Wink" />
…and he IS ripped. <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In
Love" />
Mmmmwahahaha. I had to get that in there. Can you blame me?
Oh no, I totally agree. When he did that scream after his relay team beat France, you could see every single one of his abs. Dude’s got something like a 16-pack.
Didn’t think of that when I came up with the name, but it sounds even more appropriate now…
Woo! Another dragon!

Well, people do call him SUperman or Aquaman. BUt I like the name Riptide.
I saw Diving. [spoil]It was very moving to see Guo Jingjing’s final competition end in such storybook fashion. She deserved it. She is now China’s best female athelte and the most secorated diver of all.[/spoil]
