The four-year Olympiad is, as far as I know, somewhat of a holdover from the ancient Olympic games. It’s a period of four years (hence the referral to this year’s as “the Games of the 29th Olympiad,” though the official title adds “of the modern era” to the end.) Something tells me that having the summer games every two years isn’t likely to happen. At least Vancouver 2010 is only two years away.
Loved the whole Olympics.
Was great as a whole.
I am now looking forward to it coming here in four years time now!!
Earlier this evening, my parents and I decided to see another spectacle taking place in China…Kung Fu Panda. Heheh.
I’ll be honest. Phelps fever was all I had going for me, but the Olympics was fun to watch while it lasted.
Finally, I give you Google’s closing Olympics logo:

very nice pixarvixen very nice job with the google posts.
I good finish for a very good olympics.
4th. DARN YOU RUSSIA!
That is exactly what I thought when I saw the Medal Table. ![]()
I loved the London 2012 with Leona Lewis and the bus. ![]()
Now on to the 2010 Olympics in London…Snow/Ice Sports.
Shawn White will become a Brit.
Not quite. Vancouver, BC has the 2010 Winter Games. London has the 2012 Summer Games. The ceremonies link Summer Games to Summer Games and Winter Games to Winter Games. The Vancouver ceremony took place at the Closing Ceremonies of the 2006 Torino Games (it’s online if you want to watch it… it was pretty good), and at the Vancouver Closing Ceremonies, the mayor will hand the Olympic flag over to the mayor of Sochi, Russia, host of the 2014 Winter Games.
I loved the ceremony too! It’s really sad the next it had to go to an end. Yeah, those bikes were awesome!
Umm, yeah i saw it. Much better than the opening ceremony for sure, but it still screamed ¡¡¡Beverly Hills Chihuahua!!! at me. Except for the Beijing song at the end. That totally rocked. And that old guy Somethin Page? He totally rocked, dudes! ![]()
Sweeeet.
Totally!

You liked that? It made me even more embarrassed than usual to be British. I mean, David Beckham? A guy who earns hundreds of thousand of pounds to kick a ball into a net, and acts like he’s a bit stupid, is the best representative we could get? A bit of a shame, really.
Though Boris Johnson was funny. He looked so rough and unorganised in comparison to the Chinese. ![]()
I think that’s the one most stand-out thing about the Beijing Olympics- everyone will remember it for being possibly one of the most organized games ever. Everything was just so, everything choreographed to perfection.
Ugghhhh!!! that is like the tenth time i have messed up the order of the games.
I was listeneing to radio 4 like an hour after the ceremony, and John humpreys and Boris Johnson had a huge argument.

To me, that’s one reason why I don’t think I enjoyed this Olympics that much. I mean, yeah, I was addicted like a teenage runaway, but it wasn’t any fun. The ceremonies were all about showing off. Look how many people we have. Look how well we can organize. Look at our perfect circles.
I’ve been watching some of the past opening and closing ceremonies on YouTube, and I’m seeing a spirit, a sense of welcoming the world with open arms. The Chinese seemed to have a sense of “we’ll welcome the world, but on our terms and you’ll like it.” Which is why I’m really looking forward to London - it’s going to be quirky and fun, just like London.
And for the record, Sydney wins Opening Ceremonies (and will forever win the cauldron lighting). Salt Lake takes second place, merely on its ability to make me cry. (I still need to watch Torino, Atlanta, Lillehammer, and Nagano, though.)
Tuning in everyday to the Olympics was the most tv I had watched in months! Go Australia for getting 3 Golds in the last few days! YAY!(= Can’t wait till London in 4 years! Fingers crossed I will be there to cheer on the aussies in 4 years time! ![]()
Landan? LANDAN? Cockney rhyming slang. Get used to it!
Except for Boris Johnson, he looked a bad mess I thought when it was the handover ceremony.
I liked it because I think our Opening Ceremony will be more modern and all like music and not like Chinas was.
Even though Chinas was good, well the Opening Ceremony was.
Oh I was going through major Olympic withdrawal. I watched almost nothing but Olympics for almost 2 weeks (not counting the days I was at Beatlefest, since they both started on the same day) Luckily, I have school to get my mind off it!
I guess I’ll just have to wait 18 months until the Winter Games in Vancouver.
And am I pumped about London! I was so happy for the Brits doing so well this time. I liked the little British presentation, with the bus and umbrellas, that was neat.
