Outcast Characters

Ever notice how in every Pixar movie, there is always a character or a group of characters who are outcasts?

Toy Story - the mutant toys (and maybe the little green aliens )
A Bug’s Life - Flik and the circus bugs
Toy Story 2 - the Woody’s Roundup characters (especially Jessie)
Monsters Inc. - the Abominable Snowman, Mike and Sulley after they are banished
Finding Nemo - the tank gang (especially Gill), Dory
The Incredibles - all of the supers
Cars - everyone in Radiator Springs (especially Doc)
Ratatouille - Remy and Linguini
WALL•E - WALL•E himself

I feel that that is a very ‘Disney’ trait, and is something that has been picked up by Pixar. Afterall it is the old Disney that they have succeeded in a way.
Pinnocchio is an outcast being a puppet
Dumbo is an outcast
Ariel is an outcast in a sense too.

It is just the way films and stories work. You could argue it in almost every film or story written. But a good observation.

Definitely. Kind of like how in Ratatouille, everyone has a French accent besides the rats and Linguini.

Well, I seem to have never noticed until you pointed that out PurpleKoopa. Really nice observation.

 WOO HOO!!! I’m not the only one who thinks WALL-E is an outcast!!!
And that’s just the reason why I love him and the movie so much;
They’re both different!!

I definitely agree. The outcast characters are always the interesting ones, like Gil is a very popular character from Finding Nemo because he has a mysteriousness about him that makes him intriguing.

Not only do the outcast characters make a story more interesting, but most people can identify with them in some way or another. Everyone has their own insecurities, even if someone might appear to be ‘popular’ and ‘cool’, because nearly everyone has, at some time or another, felt like the outcast. Pixar films use this idea effectively and manage to develop characters that epitomize the idea of being outcast without too many cliche moments.
