Well I’m really not trying to be punny, but I’m gonna try not and let that cloud my judgement until I see it for myself. Although this does give me a better idea what what actually is going on.
Sulley: you didn’t enjoy Partly Cloudy? It did have story [spoil]this cloud’s stork, wasn’t having the best time delivering all these “bad” babies, for example, a goat, a eel, etc. one day, the cloud sees the stork going over to another cloud, thinking he’s ditching him he starts to cry. Then he discovers he just wanted some football gear to keep him safe[/spoil] It’s really a charming short film that teaches a lesson about friendship.
Yes, I did enjoy it since it was very funny and entertaining, but, as soon as it [spoil]ended, I just thought: “What? That’s it? Huh?[/spoil]” I suppose you could consider their[spoil] lesson on friendship a resolution, but it’d be a weak one at best. No where near the satisfying endings of [/spoil]Lifted or Presto or any other Pixar short. Its definitely better than any other non-Pixar short out there, but, [spoil]compared to the other Pixar shorts, I feel like it fell a little bit short. Great animation, great score, very funny, but just not that satisfying.[/spoil]
I can understand that. There are a few Pixar shorts that I dont really care for similar reasons. They just didnt grab me.
For some reason Partly Cloudy didn’t play before Up digital 3-D at the theater I went to. Did this happen to anyone else?
Wow, Sulley, I had the exact opposite reaction. It tops the list of Pixar shorts for me. By far my favorite. No story? It actually has a rather traditional, condensed story:
Storks deliver babies.
One stork is stuck with the cloud that creates the dangerous babies.
Stork gets fed up with being injured on the job.
Cloud gets angry at first, then depressed at the abandonment.
Stork returns after having acquired protective gear, ready to serve.
Cloud happily creates babies once again.
The End!
This is a story that I don’t think could have worked in a longer format. You see it happening all the time in poorly-thought-out movies and TV specials, a simple idea expanded far beyond the scope of what the idea should have been. I this story works very well as a five-minute spot.
And the animation is probably my favorite as well. But then again, I’ve always been biased towards birds! [/spoiler]
It didn’t show at the theater I went to this morning either.
I was mad, because I was so looking forward to it.
Oh well, I’m going to a different theater today (this theater is in traditional), and I know it will be playing there
I love this short film. Pete Sohn did an amazing job I was so lucky to be at the 1st ever showing to the public in Austin.
I saw it. I didn’t enjoy it as I did with other PIxar Shorts. It isn’t my favorite, but it was still well done and laughable. A creative story and really lovable characters.
I agree with TSS. Not astounding, but not horrible. It’s like saying Pixar is the the kid who gets all A’s got an B.
Not my favorite Pixar short film. The problem I had with it was that there was so much PAIN involved, and it made me cringe every other second. I’m not into that kind of humor.
I agree with the things sulley said; the ending wasn’t very satisfying. [spoil]Also, It didn’t seem like the protective gear helped very much… [/spoil]But on a more positive note, [spoil]I found the relationship between the cloud and the bird to be incredibly sweet.[/spoil]
ashley
It was okay, but certainly not Pixar’s best. It had a nice rythum to it, but I think it ended too abruptly.
yes, it is a story, but not a satisfying one. I must admit that I liked it a lot better the second and third times I saw it in theaters, but it still ends the list of Pixar shorts for me. It was nowhere near as charming as Presto, nor did it have the lessons or classic style of Boundin’. It’s humor wasn’t as funny as Lifted, and it wasn’t near as ironic or complete as For the Birds. Partly Cloudy still beats every non-Pixar short out there, but, honestly, it is the worst Pixar short if you ask me.
We saw the first show on 5/29 at 9am in 3D and did not see Partly Cloudy!
Is it being shown in 3D or just in the “regular” theatrical format?
I read Peter Sohn’s interview on AWN and can’t wait to see Gus and Peck!
It didn’t show at my 3D theater either, and I know there was another person who had a problem with that too.
So I guess it’s at the regular theaters
Dang I missed it
Hm. Funny, I got in 3d. Where did you all see it at?
Cinemark 17 (and I see that your location says: TX, so you might know where this is) in Plano
Where’d you go?
Deerbrook Theatres. Its in the Deerbrook Mall. I come from Houston, so you probably don
t even know where that is, do you?

Nope.
But I gotta say, Deerbrook is a funny word
