I know there are alot of Dreamworks haters here, (Heck, I’m one of them) but has anyone seen the new show on Nickelodeon starring the Penguins of the Madagascar movies? I have to admit I kind of like. I’ve only see the first Madagascar movie, and it didn’t hold my intrest at all, but I did like the Penguins alot, so I thought I’d check it out. It’s alot like recent Nicktoons, it reminds me alot of Jimmy Neutron, cept I like this show to a degree. It’s pretty funny and has a good cast of characters. It’s not the kind of show that I love and have to watch all the time, like the old Cartoon Cartoons, but when it’s on, it’s something entertaining to watch.
Anyone else here seen the show? Did you like it? Dislike? Won’t even bother watching it?
I watched two episodes of it. It’s kind of funny, but the penguins are almost indistinguishable between each other unless they talk, and the animation is horrible.
The only difference between this and Jimmy Neutron is that this has terrible quality. It looks like something three 20 year olds could do in their basement.
If you ever watch the Barnyard show, also on Nickelodeon, that and the penguins of Madagascar share alot of similarities. This one’s just better. I don’t really like the show story wise, but some of it is, you have to admit, is pretty funny.
Hey, I liked Jimmy Neutron…what’s with all the hating on it? I haven’t seen the more recent episodes, but I positively loved almost every episode I saw of it. It was clever and actually entertaining, which is very rare in the Nicktoons line-up these days.
Anyhow, I’ve yet to see Penguins of Madagascar. I’ve heard it’s good, so I’ll have to look into it further. I saw some clips from it and the animation really bothers me.
I’ve started to see the advertisements roll out, and my cable TV service is using it as a promotion for it’s services. Caught a glimpse of it while channel-surfing, and quite frankly, my provider should have used another Nick program (if Nick at all) for it’s promotions because this one’s just terrible.
As for the comparison between Jimmy Neutron & this - you can’t. It’s not comparable. Jimmy Neutron - well, at least that wasn’t a cut-rate production, with at least decent animation…
I agree Jimmy had better animation, but I kinda hate the show. Dunno why, the protagonist gets on my nerves, his friends get on my nerve, the love interest gets on my nerve, the parents… get on my nerve. They just seem annoying for some reason. (Sorry if that offended any fans) And the poor guy’s inventions always fail in public (which basically forms the premise of the show)!
Although Penguins has terrible animation (they were probably going for the pose-to-pose of Looney Tunes classics, but failed tremendously) and ugly characters (they didn’t have hair simulations like the original movies, so their fur looks like it’s part of their skin), the story and humour is pretty good. I watched the first episode ‘Gone in a Flash’ courtesy of DDRPenguin72 on YT, and I must say it was pretty entertaining (I laughed at some parts).
But seriously, this is going to cable TV and it looks like a student’s grad work on Maya or something…
P.S. I just realised this wouldn’t fit into the Madagascar continuity… how’d the penguins and King Julien & Co. end up back in the zoo? Maybe this is an alternate universe or something…
The show is alright. The animation is pretty bad, but I guess that’s what I expected. I didn’t like the new character they added though (Marlene I think). She reminds me too much of Gloria. The show can be kind of funny at times but I think this show probably aimed for much younger kids.
I personally think it’s a big letdown and the animation sucks. It looks like a cartoon that DreamWorks just smashed up together and sent out without even working hard on it. They look incomplete, and I find this and the Barnyard series rather irritating (by the way, in Barnyard, it’s like they don’t even get the facts right…male cattle don’t have udders! Ugh!). I don’t like where this is going, which is a shame because I really liked Madagascar’s penguins. Just making a tv. series with them is a bad choice and is driving me to dislike them.
I love the show, while I love animation, you often have to look past that. Its a very funny show. Some times the animation can have good quality, some times not. I also liked Jimmy neutron, it was pretty funny. Oddly enough I liked season three the most cuz the animation was ten times better. The humor was great too.
Well, yeah, I understand that animation isn’t the only thing that matters, and for TV shows perfect animation doesn’t matter. I will admit it’s ok for a cartoon you want to kick back and watch just for fun. It’s just that I’m not really interested in it. Yes, I love the penguins in the Madagascar movie- they’re my fave characters. But the show, to me, always seemed like DreamWorks is taking what we liked about their movies and making MORE of them until up the point we don’t want anymore and even up to the point where you begin to get annoyed of the characters you used to love. What I mean is it’s like DreamWorks is squeezing every last drop of what’s good in their past films until it’s not as great anymore.
That I agree with you about, DreamWorks does like to to draw out its films till its dry. I used to like Shrek, now I can’t stand it. I hear movie what are they in? Five? Is the last one. I just don’t care for it though now.
