I also love these films, they are probably the only live-action films on my list of my favorite 100 films. What do you guys think of them? Love them, can’t stand them? Are you excited for the fourth?
Not really. With Orlando and Kiera not returning, the story of the characters they play is screwed, which is a very big waste because Elizabeth and Will’s story has a very big potential for continuation. I realized that when I saw that ‘the fountain of youth’ was going to be the theme of the next movie.
Just think about it: Will won’t die because he’s now this owner of the Flying Dutchman, but Elizabeth will. What would happen after that? Wouldn’t either Elizabeth or Will want to be together forever and ever? Wouldn’t there be some conflict going on if they (or just one of them, maybe having the other satisfied with their ‘distant’ lives) join in the search for that fountain and, thus, making the story much more interesting?
Having a Pirate story with only Captain Jack and Barbossa is just… a little dull to me. Barbossa’s a fun character, especially with Jack, but like I said, it’s a huge waste, and I’ve got a feeling this could be easily rated as KC.

Hm, really? I found Elizabeth and Will a little annoying and took away from all the REAL pirates. I think that a movie with just Barbossa and Jack could definitely be an interesting one. Don’t get me wrong, I love Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, but in the last two movies I just felt like I didn’t really care what they were doing or why. I just didn’t connect with them like I did with the rest of the crew.
To have a love as passionate as that shared by Will and Elizabeth? I would definitely love to explore more of that.

Yeah, I guess you’re right, but I think that their story is over. I can’t think what they would do to fit them back in there.
I can, and it’s called the fountain of youth.

I think the dynamic between Liz and Will was really cool, sort of a love-hate-but really love relationship throughout most of the movies. I think Orlando’s acting was a bit clumsy, he seemed too nervous in his role, but still did a good job. The stuff they could do with them in a fourth movie could be really good if done right, it’s a shame they’re not going in.
I’m not too excited for this movie. I didn’t enjoy the third one so I don’t have high hopes for this one.
I enjoyed the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Captain Jack Sparrow is a great character and Johnny Depp does a great job playing him. I’m not all that excited for the fourth. My mind could change after I see more about it, though.
Very much looking forward to the fourth. All you really need for Pirates is Captain Sparrow. Not as the main focus of course.
Will and Elizabeth’s story has been told and done with. There’s no need to revisit it.
I’m not really excited for it, but maybe it will change when the release draws nearer. No matter what, I am going to give the fourth movie a chance.
I’m pretty much indifferent towards them. They’re okay. I’ve seen the first and third and I liked them. Not enough to want to buy them, but they’re not bad. I will say, though, I liked Pirates before they were cool, back when it was still just a ride
I like the movies. I haven’t seen them in forever, but they were good. I didn’t know they were making a fourth, but I’m definitely looking forword to it.
One of the most fun and biggest-selling trilogies of all time, and it was just inspired from a theme-park ride! The mythology is as in-depth as LOTR (although not as ‘classical’), the dialogue is snappy and quote-worthy, the plot complex and full of twists, and the rousing soundtrack is as grand as the adventure movies of yesteryear. A swashbuckling unforgettable adventure on the high seas. I got all of the movies and I can seriously watch them over again and again (I should go on a marathon…).
Captain Jack Sparrow is one of the most intriguing and well-loved anti-hero character in the history of cinema, up among the likes of Han Solo and Snake Plissken. Kudos to the eccentric Johnny Depp for his brilliant portrayal. Barbossa and Davy Jones are two of the scariest pirates brought to my life by Rush and Nighy with the help of the talented VFX artists. Orlando Bloom and Knightley’s characters’ love story is both sweet and tragic.
In case it isn’t obvious, I’m a massive fan of the series, and At World’s End was probably the last 'epic’ adventure movie released (Think about it, when was the last great adventure film you’ve watched in theatres? I’m guessing some of you are gonna say Up, but I’m betting it is not of the magnitude or scale of AWE. And don’t get me started on The Golden Compass or Indy 4!) I’m up for a fourth, with or without Bloom and Knightley. The show was pretty much about Jack anyway.
“Drink up me hearties, yo ho!”
-Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Yeah, It’s also the last of the great adventure movies; the ones I remember anyways. Plus, it has the largest budget of any other move EVER.
There’s going to be a fourth? Blech.
The first one was fun whilst it lasted, but by the third they were boring and contrived. Even my friends, who were massive fans of the series, found the third one a bit silly and over the top, as if it were struggling for a storyline. Plus, I’m not a fan of Johnny Depp so these films aren’t for me.
I’d be happier if they stuck with it just as a trilogy, though. It’s so obvious that a fourth is being made for the money rather than its cinematic value.
Yeah, that’s probably the reason. This is Disney we’re talking about! Still, they can make as many films as they want, I’ll be there to fully support them!
Sorry for the double post, but I just had to announce that Disney’s head of production announced that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 was going to shoot from next April and May. i’m flipping out, here!
WOO-HOO! Got the full title and a release date! Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is coming out in summer 2011!
I know, right? Like I mentioned at Movie Night yesterday, the title is very Quantum of Solace-ish. But Jack is back! That’s all that matters!
Johnny Depp FTW!
