Pixar Animation Studios - Role Playing Game

Hey howdy hey, everyone!

Quite a few of us wish to work at Pixar Animation Studios one day, while others would simply be satisfied with a tour of the studio… or the chance to shake hands with a Pixarian. Since it may be some time until we have the honor of fulfilling our dreams and aspirations, I thought that it might be kind of fun to act out what we would do on a daily basis if we were working at Pixar Animation Studios. The method? A Pixar Animation Studios role-playing game!

The Rules:

1. Everything that happens in this role-playing game can only take place inside of Pixar Animation Studios. The only exceptions are alternate universes, meaning that there will be hidden doors and passageways scattered throughout the studio that lead into other dimensions. There are nine dimensions in total, and each of them lead to a different world: The worlds of Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, and Up. With each new Pixar movie that is released, a new dimension is created. If you discover one or more of these alternate universes, you’ll be able to enter them, explore those worlds, and converse and interact with the Pixar characters within them. Will you be able to locate them all?

Notice: There will soon be a set way to open up the individual worlds mentioned. Please refrain from unlocking any of these worlds manually. Any worlds that have already been opened may remain open, however.

2. You can only play as yourself and can only identify yourself via your username. Do not use your real name. No playing as any of the Pixarians is allowed. You can, however, meet, talk, and work with any of the Pixarians in the studio.

3. When posting any entry at any time, you must state three things: Your Location (where you are in the studio), your Occupation (what your title/job is at the studio), and your Action (what you’re doing/saying at that moment). Please note that only those who wish to work at Pixar Animation Studios in the future (for real) may post what their occupation is. If you do not wish to work at the studio in the future, but would still like to explore the complex, type in the word Guest after Occupation.

4. As was stated/suggested by The Star Swordsman:

Additional Note: This is simply optional, but, if you wish, along with Location, Occupation, and Action, you may state what Pixar film you are working on (if you are not a Guest) at the moment. Just type in Currently Working On in your post, right after Occupation.

Have fun, everyone, and thanks for playing!

Location: Corner table, The Luxo Cafe, Pixar Animation Studios

Occupation: Technical Lighting Assistant

Currently Working On: Toy Story 3

Action: Mitch sipped the last few drops of hot chocolate from her mug, and set it down on top of a piece of paper on the table in front of her. She glanced at the paper and smiled. It was an acceptance letter from Pixar Animation Studios…

Groaning slightly as she heaved herself up out of a rather wobbly chair, Mitch stretched her arms up in the air satisfactorily, grabbed the mug and the slip of paper, and made her way over to the bar section of the Luxo Cafe. Today was going to be hectic, and she’d need a lot more than hot chocolate to keep her awake on her first day on the job…

Pixar Planet Administrators and Moderators: If the creation of this thread is deemed illegitimate and/or unnecessary in any way, form, or fashion, please feel free to remove it from the premises.

You know, we the admins before had an idea to start up a Role Playing game, but it never got around. This could be the start of something really fun Mitch. I’m glad you took the initiative to start it up.

I am not sure if I’m going to do this right, but I shall do my best.

Location: Corner Table (with Mitch), Luxo Cafe, Pixar Animation Studios

Occupation: Performer (voice actor/singer)

Currently Working On: Nothing, just researching information on the Incredibles Universe.

Action: TSS sits by Mitch and greets her good morning. He notices that she was tired. He sits down with a carmel apple cider (alchohol free) in his grasp.

“Today is going to be tough huh? My day is no different.”

Here is a tip to all who shall participate. Do NOT control the actions of others. Only control the actions of your character. Remember, you are Role-Playing, not God-Playing.

Great idea, Mitch! Especially for those like me who would never be able to work at the studios. I don’t think I’d have enough time to play this game (and I’m not particularly good at role-playing games anyway), but I look forward to reading your contributions and imaginative stories. I can’t wait till some of you bump into John Lasseter or Andrew Stanton, lolol.

I reckon this thread could even go in the ‘Fandom’ section, if you ask me.

Thank you very much for the support, everyone!

The Star Swordsman - Hmm. Yeah, I vaguely remember a role playing game being talked about amongst the administrators. I think the basic theme was different, though. Didn’t it involve playing as the Pixar characters themselves or something? Either way, it’s too bad that it never got put into action sooner. Well, I suppose this could be thought of as a substitute. Heh.

Oh, and you’re getting the hang of the game just perfectly, by the way!

Good idea! Do you mind if I insert this quote/idea of yours into the “Rules” section of the first post?

Ha-ha! Yeah, I did think of that, but I wasn’t sure if it would be allowed, since the “Fandom” section is more for people to share their creative talents with others, and I’m not sure if a role playing game would be considered as an “artistic” publication. I might consider it, though. Heheh.

Thanks again, guys!

Action: Having ordered a double-decaf latte with mocha sprinkles, Mitch returns to her table, now accompanied by The Star Swordsman. Noticing the cup of apple cider in his hands, she chuckles softly… and acknowledges his reply…

"Tell me about it. I have to render four shots today – two with Jessie, one with Slinky and Hamm, and another of Andy’s bedroom. I’ll probably use up all of Pixar’s coffee reserves just trying to stay awake today…

Sooo, how’s yourself? You’re going to be busy too, eh?"

Sitting nearby TSS and Mitch in the Luxo Cafe

Occupation; Writer

Currently Working On; The Incredibles 2

Action;
Al-Bob closed his notebook after just finishing the outline for The Incredibles 2. Taking a breather he looked around admiring the fact that in over the first couple months he had been at Pixar he had accomplished so much. He could still rememeber the letter he received after college inviting him over for a interview in Emerville. There he had met Mr. Lasseter and together they had discussed his writing and after a long interview the president had told him to come back in one month ready to work. Ahhh…it seemed like yesterday when Brad Bird accompanied by Mr. Lasseter had welcomed him to Pixar. Mr. Bird had instantly taken to him due to the many Incredible fictions he had produced. Together they worked over a possible Incredibles 2 until they concluded on a perfect storyline. Now over 3 months later the story was really coming along and the artwork was almost completed. Al-Bob had also heard that one such new recruit was eager for a sequel and would have died to have submitted a voice for any character possible.
Al-Bob looked around the cafe and spotting some young people nearby picked up his notebook (now mostly ruined with outlines) and walked over.

Woody clambered through the small opening that led to the Lucky 7 Lounge, following Lee Unkrich. They talked for a while on the new ideas for Lee’s next feature film, about a Salty Dog, as they sipped strawberry smoothies. Woody although new to Pixar, was the head of the story department on this certain project. After a few minutes of relaxing, they climbed out of the comfy lounge. Woody immediately headed down to his small office where he took out his spiral notebook and started brainstorming.

Action: Bryko is banging his head on the desk like a lunatic. He’s working on a shot with about a dozen different characters in it.
“Must…finish…”
Soon, he decides to take a quick break and get something to drink.

[At the Luxo Cafe]

Bryko picks up a cup of coffee and heads over to the table occupied by Mitch and TSS. Taking a seat, he joins in on their conversation.

“Hey, guys…I was working overtime last night working on my scenes for Toy Story 3. What’s in your pipeline for today, you two?”

Location: Luxo Cafe

Occupation: Animator

Currently Working On: Toy Story 3

Action: Seeing the ‘party’ gathering at Mitch’s table, Hannahmation decides to close her sketchbook and chat with Mitch, TSS, and Bryko for a bit before heading back to her office.

Action; Al-Bob seeing the limited seating around the popular table quickly grabs a chair and listens in to the conversations.

Nice idea, Mitch! Considering how creative most people are on here, I’m sure this will turn out to be a really interesting and well thought-out RPG. But unfortunately, I don’t actually want to work at Pixar, so I’ll just watch you guys working on Pixar’s future films and doing the things that I’m sure quite a few of you will be doing for real in a few years time…

Location: Luxo Cafe

Occupation: Writer

After coming up with great ideas for Pixar’s soon to be blockbuster hit, Woody takes a break before his meeting with the rest of the writing crew to get something to cheer him up. After ordering a coke, he walks over to the very overcrowded table…

This seems like it’s gonna be a fun game guys! I can’t wait to jump in!

Note: Since LightningAndDoc takes forever to write out, I’m gonna abbreviate it to L&D.

Also, I’m gonna state the location of where my entry ends. Since I’m such a story writer, it’s gonna sound like a story more than a role-play for my entries.

~o0o~

Location: Luxo Cafe

Occupation: Writer

Currently Working On: Waiting for her first assignment.

Action: L&D just couldn’t stop thinking about how lucky she was. Right now, she was walking down a hall, being shown to her new office being accompanied by Brad Lewis, the director for Cars 2. Heck, even if it was just some random person walking her down instead of the man in charge of the sequel for her favorite movie she’d be happy. Ever since she first saw Toy Story, she was facinated about Pixar. As she grew older, it became a dream of hers to work at Pixar. She always thought it would be a long shot to work there. It almost was. She had to work her butt off to be chosen to work here. But in the end, it was all worth it. Because now, she was Pixar Animation Studios’ newest writer, and she felt proud to say it. Just so she wouldn’t annoy Mr. Lewis, she practiced her boasting in her head. When they reached the office, L&D felt completely inspired and ready to go. But first, she had to wait for her first assignment. If only she knew what it was. . .

Until then, she decided to get something to drink. She was shown a whole tour of the studio when she was first here to apply for the job. She knew just exactly where to go. She carried her prized notebook filled with drafts of fanfictions for Cars with Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson on the cover, her pencil, and her eraser with her. She never knew when inspiration for her fanfics would strike. Just because she was a writer for Pixar now didn’t mean she had to stop writing fanfics.

When she reached the Luxo Cafe, she found a crowd of six at a table. They all looked younger. Maybe some newbies like me. she thought. She decided to sit down and see who all was there after she ordered a vanilla capuccino, her favorite. But as she sat down, her introverted ways kicked in and she decided to just write out the next chapter in her fanfic, but not failing to listen in to what all the others were saying.

~o0o~

Like I said, it’s gonna be like a story for my entries. But it’s the best way I can write.

Al-Bob - Make sure to state your Location and Occupation each time you post up an entry. Just a quick reminder. Thanks!

lizardgirl - Thanks, lizardgirl! If you don’t actually want to work at the studio in the future, you can still join in on the game as a Guest. Just type in “Guest” after “Occupation.”

Whatever works best for you is acceptable! I like your writing style, since I’m something of an author myself.

Action: Noticing the sudden surge of new employees joining her at the table, Mitch made to heartily greet each occupant in turn with a firm handshake.

"Man, did we all get hired around the same time? Heh. Awesome…

Hey, Hannah! Congralulations on getting hired! And you too, Bryko? Cool. It sounds as if you two have been busy lately.

Me? Umm… well, I have quite a slew of things on my agenda today. I’ve got four shots to render, sooo, yeah… Oh, by the way, they’re giving out free Wildnerness Explorer badges in the game room."

Action: “Congrats to you too, Mitch! Quite exciting to be here! I’m animating a touching scene between Woody and Jesse today. Lots to do so I better get going.” Hannahmation exits the Luxo Cafe and makes a quick stop at the game room to pick up a badge. She then proceeds to her office, which is decked out to look like a Quidditch pitch; complete with little action figures flying overhead.

Location: Luxo Cafe, corner table

Occupation: Writer

Current Project: The Salty Dog

Woody talked about the progress of Toy Story 3 with his friends, which were mostly working on that project. “I think this one is going to be the best yet!” He exclaimed, “Especially if talented people like you are on the project!” Woody knew that his friends weren’t just animators, technical directors or story tellers, they were graphic makers and fanfiction writers, very good fanfictions and graphics at that  " I wish I could tell you about my project, but then I’d have to kill you," He said jokingly as he took down a gulp of Coke.

Location:

Occupation: Writer

Current Project: [spoil]Cars 2[/spoil] (Spoiled for it will be found out below.)

Action: The entire time she was at that corner table with everyone in the Luxo Cafe, L&D kept to herself. She never was really good at making friends. She had to have someone try to make friends with her. But she was slowly (really slowly) getting better. She learned that a lot of people were working on Toy Story 3. Odds are that’s the project I’ll be getting. But I don’t mind. I mean, the whole Toy Story series was my first movie obsession. The whole game room sounded pretty interesting to check out, but right now, she was waiting to find out what she’d be in charge of writing. Of course she wouldn’t be the head storywriter since she was a newbie, but she’d at least put a lot of her inut into. And when it came to pitching ideas, she wasn’t afraid to be loud. That, and when she had to do speeches or sing.

When her vanilla capuccino was finished, she decided to get up and leave. She never bothered to look to see if anyone had waved goodbye to her. Besides, who would? When she reached her office, she found a note on her desk to report to room 126, which just so happened to be Brad Lewis’ office. “Why would Mr. Lewis be looking for me?” she said to herself, something that was common for her to do when no one was around. She went over to his office, and there, she was assigned to what she thought was the best assignment ever. Writing the story for Cars 2. Trying her hardest to not lose her cool, she thanked Mr. Lewis for the assignment with the biggest smile on her face that she’d ever smiled. Writing possible sequels for Cars was what she was best at! She knew for a fact she wasn’t the head writer, but she couldn’t wait to start getting to pitch ideas. When she left Mr. Lewis’ office. she went straight to her office as fast as she could. She locked the door so there was no chance of anyone catching her as she did a little celebration dance for being assigned the best project to recieve. At least in her mind anyway. Sure doing little dances wasn’t professional, but she knew that in business, you can be as dorky as you feel sometimes. Besides, this was Pixar. The famous Pixarians probably acted a little like dorks sometimes themselves. Which of course she had never saw in her half hour being in the studio. She was told before she left the Cars 2 writers would meet up in two hours. Right now, L&D had some time to kill, and what better way to do it than the game room? So she started to walk over there as she set her watch to an hour and a half timer. She gave herself a whole half hour extra time so she wouldn’t be late. Then again, she was writing Cars 2 for crying out loud!! Why would she be late!?
