I was wondering what Pixar films fall under the same universe. Meaning what characters from what pixar films share the same continuity
I like to think that “A Bug’s Life”, “Finding Nemo” and “Ratatouille” all fall under the same continuity. They can easily crossover. perhaps even “Monster’s Inc” and the “Toy Story” films.
Well, I some ideas for cross overs. But I am totally intresting in seeing a Bird-Crossing, meaning a crossover of the two Pixar Brad Bird Films, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille.
The best answer I could give is that they are all set in our universe.
For example, the two Toy Story movies, are presumably set in the same universe as A Bug’s Life because of when Heimlich walks across the leaf for a split second. But there are also A Bug’s Life toys on sale in Al’s Toy Barn in Toy Story 2.
This would suggest that A Bug’s Life was released as a movie within the Toy Story universe itself, and couldn’t have taken place there - but you could argue that A Bug’s Life was filmed as a documentary within that universe.
Same deal with a Buzz toy in the dentist’s office in Finding Nemo. But then there is the whole Pixar Planet truck turning up in most Pixar films, which means that they are all the same universe. My brain hurts now.
Hey, the rats ended up coexisting with the humans of Ratatouille just fine.
As for The Incredibles, crossing over with Ratatouille already occurred when Bomb Voyage hit the screen. Besides, if Remy and his clan can intermingle with a garbage boy and his lady chef, superpowers wouldn’t be much of a social obstacle.
By the way, rachelcakes, in your previous post, you called it the Pixar Planet truck. We don’t deliver…yet. Heheh.
Well, The Incredibles would live in Metroville USA, and Remy and co. would live in France so it wouldn’t be that hard… And I doubt that they would cross paths, unless the Parrs go to La Ratatouille for dinner or something.
How is this for an idea. The Incredibles family enter another dimension, the Cars dimension. There, Dash challenges Lightning to a race, more adventures happen.
Well, it can happen many ways. Dash could loose and learn that through hard work, perservrence, and determination, he can win again, or he could win and learn how cockiness can be hurtful.
Well, with some of the films, there are clear indications of a time period, such as with Monsters, Inc. or The Incredibles, but with others it’s harder to say. For example, with A Bug’s Life- there’s really no way to tell even what decade it’s set in. Toy Story looks as though it’s set in the '90s, but once again, that’s really just guesswork.
I can sort of see Ratatouille and The Incredibles crossing over…Cars is obviously the completely separate one. Monsters, Inc. has a slightly more vintage look about it, especially with the architecture, so I’m not sure if that’s in the same universe, so to speak, as Toy Story. It’s difficult to tell.
Well, I think they all have unique universes. For one Monsters, Inc. is in Monstropolis (yes the Pizza Planet truck was in the same spot as in A Bug’s Life but that’s just an inside joke). Second The Incredibles is in a retro-future (the 60’s in the 2000’s). Toy Story is pretty much in the early 90’s (as suggested by the clothes and toys). A Bug’s Life is in it’s own world an alternate world in ours, but there’s no way to know where and when since Ant Island could be anywhere. Ratatouille is the only movie with a definitive place and time, Paris and the presents respectively. Finding Nemo is also in the present time as suggested by the Australian scenes. And in Cars you can tell it’s western US but in another dimension populated by cars. All these movies have one common theme, they are all in an alternate Earth, and as John Lasseter (i think) once said, they all have unique worlds.
I like martini833’s theory, though I still say that A Bug’s Life and Finding Nemo exist in the same universe and perhaps even Ratatouille. All of these are fairly cartoony in nature with the talking animals and all.
I think that The Incredibles exists in it’s own seperate universe. It’s more realistic in nature and less cartoony. I just don’t see talking cartoon animals in the same universe, but that’s just me. To me TI always stood on it’s own.
To me this is like saying that Bugs Bunny exists in the same universe as Superman. It just does not make that much sense to me.
Cars is all it’s own. The Toy Story Films and Monster Inc can possibly also exist in the same universe as A Bug’s Life , Finding Nemo and Ratatouille
All thoes Pizza Planet truck cameos are just inside jokes. They don’t mean anything. I mean DinoCo is both in Toy Story and Cars, but they are clearly not in the same universe.
I’m with TSS. I’d love to cross Incredibles and Ratatouille. I’ve plotted it many a boring class lectures. Somehow I could see Vi and Remy relating to each other regarding the exasperation they often feel towards their sibs.
I know a great crossover: Flik, Atta, Dot, and the circus bugs crawl inside an airplane and eat the flight attendant’s foods. Then the plane lifts off and it happens to be a plane headed for France. When the airplane lands, the bugs escape, not realizing that they’re in Paris. They sneak into La Ratatouille and eat the rats’ foods. Remy finds them and tells them to shoo. He feels sorry for them and lets them stay until he can find out a way to get them back to their colony.
