How would you like Pixar’s films to be presented on film posters and DVDs? And why?

As far as I know, on DVDs they generally go for “Disney•Pixar” but sometimes I still see “Walt Disney Pictures presents a Pixar Animation Studios film” on trailers… I have an old VHS of Toy Story and it just says “Disney’s Toy Story” on the front, which represents the level of power Disney had over Pixar back then when they couldn’t even be credited for making one of their own films!

I’m a bit indecisive about whether I’d want to have “Pixar” with no mention of Disney on a film poster, for example. But for the most part, it is Pixar that does all the work into making their films. Should Disney really be portrayed as a 50/50 partner with one of their productions? Should Disney be mentioned at all?

“Walt Disney Pictures presents a Pixar Animation Studios film” seems the most representative of their relationship, and if I were a casual movie-goer it would make me think of what Pixar Animation Studios is, and maybe they are the ones that make the films, and not Disney. I used to think this. That title would be harder to fit on a DVD, but it has been done, like with Finding Nemo.

So far, I’m happy with simplistic “Disney•Pixar” arrangement they tend to use now (even though it implies a 50/50 input into their films), or “Walt Disney Pictures presents a Pixar Animation Studios film” even though it’s a long way to put it.

I like the Disney/Pixar one, because it is simple and it also gives the idea of simplistic 50/50.

I like Disney/Pixar because that IS the brand. I mean Pixar does all the production which is years and years of work but Disney funds it and markets it which is millions of millions of dollars. I think the long versions were just used to separate Pixar from Dissney during their little sarcasm debate.
Basically, the company (Pixar Animation Studios) and the films (Disney/Pixar) are two diffrent names, luckily most people call both Pixar!

Of course Pixar. Disney does nothing but casting and financing, and Pixar could easily do that on their own.

Well since Disney own Pixar, and the films are released by Walt Disney Pictures, but made by the subsidary ‘Pixar’. Both names should be visible.
So for it to say just Disney, or just Pixar is incorrect, and I am all for the films to be correctly credited.
Disney-Pixar is simple and good short hand and can be a good parallel to the ‘Walt Disney Classics’ DVD’s.
Personally though, I prefer the full “Walt Disney Pictures presents a Pixar Animation Studios film” or “…presents a Pixar Studios film” for non-animation.
I would like that format for all Disney films.
Walt Disney Pictures presents a Pixar Animation Studios film…
Walt Disney Pictures presents a Walden Media film…
Walt Disney Pictures presents a Jerry Bruckheimer Films film…
Walt Disney Pictures presents a Walt Disney Animation Studios film…
Walt Disney Pictures presents a Walt Disney Pictures film…

okay so those last ones are maybe a bit much, but my point is Pixar don’t release the film to cinema’s or distribute DVD’s, that is handled by the parent company, and always has.

I just like things in a precise manner.

I went for the Pixar one, but the Disney presents a Pixar film and so on is a pretty good one, because it actually outlines their relationship as opposed to making it seem as though Disney had some hand in the production of the Pixar films, which they did not. And I believe that this needs to be as clear as possible, so Pixar get all the recognition they deserve.

Nice idea for a thread, Rachel.
