I didn’t like Coraline at all, so I don’t know about a film like that. It was just too creepy for me. I don’t like horror films, or really the idea of Pixar doing one at all. I guess they’d pull it off, but when I think Pixar, I think heartwarming, and uplifting. Not really horror
Just because something fits into the “Horror” genre does not mean that it can’t be heartwarming and uplifting as well, I think that’s the first common misconception. There are a lot of horror movies out there, in addition to Coraline, that were just as funny, heartfelt and uplifting as any PIXAR film. In fact, if done right, the fear, general concern, and courageousness of the characters in horror films just adds additional emphasis to each one of these themes.
PIXAR has always had horror elements to each one of their films (I still get chills during the first encounter with the Mutant Toys in Sid’s Room) so I don’t see why a genuine horror film from them wouldn’t be any good.
I haven’t seen Coraline. However, looking at the creepier elements of Pixar(Up, Toy Story, The Incredibles), I can see them warming into one more and more.
