Pixar Internships 2010

I’d love to intern at Pixar after college…except I have no idea how to do 3D graphick-ing.

Do they train their interns from scratch?

I’m pretty sure you have to be in school learning the trade or something. Most internships are like that at least.

But I live in WEST VIRGINIA! There’s no fancy shmancy schools that teach how to do CGI!

…Well, high schools that is. Colleges, probably not, but it’s possible.

Hello, all!

I’m still in college, so I know that I won’t be able to apply for any internship unless I’m in or have completed my junior year.

I’m just hoping that when that happens, Pixar will have a story internship open…here’s crossing my fingers!

It seems to me that they haven’t been posting any story internships on their website in a while… :frowning: Correct me if I’m wrong here, though.

Hi everyone!

I still have a good year to go, but I would love to get some information.

Seeing as I can’t draw worth diddly, I thought to myself, I’d love to get in on the story aspect. You know, developing story ideas and such.

The only screenwriting class my school offers is…a screenwriting class.

What should I do?

I’ve had sort of sixth sense-ish signs. Like remebering there’s an Oakland City here in Indiana (and Oakland is a joint city with Emeryville, I believe), and the fact that i’ve had a dream where I’ve babysat John Lasseter’s kids (although I think they’re too old for a babysitter, that doesn’t count :stuck_out_tongue: )

I’d say enter as many competitions, writing events etc as you can. Googling around will bring some up (a British example: bbc.co.uk/writersroom/opport … ndex.shtml but there will be plenty in America too).

That way you can use it to show your interest, enthusiasm and passion.

Yep, they’re 5 minutes away from each other.

Your school has a screenwriting class? Awesome!

Yeha, but no other filmmaking classes. :frowning:

Also, funny enough, I just came across an article on my local paper’s website about…Oakland CA. Not about Pixar, but that’s pretty funny. Maybe more signage? :open_mouth:

I recently just bought a new song off of iTunes called “Keep Holding On”, and I think the words can be applied in a lot of ways to us eager, enthusiastic, and hopeful Pixar fans who actually do want to pursue a career there.

One of the lines from the song goes like this:

Believe me when I say that I believe
That nothing’s gonna change destiny
Whatever’s meant to be will work out perfectly…

When I read everyone’s comments about how hopeful they are about applying for interns at Pixar, it just makes me ever-more happy and glad to know that I’m not the only one who wants to carry out the beautiful, amazing, and inspirational story-teling process that thrives at the studio for the years to come!

Lots of things have happened since I read this thread, and when I consider my chances of applying for an internship in the near future, it seems unlikely… :frowning:

But I’ve put my hope in the One who sets our paths before us, no matter what they may be. If I’m meant to arrive at Pixar’s gates one day, I will certainly try to hasten that path! But in the meantime, I’ll be praying for you all that YOUR paths will lead to where your dreams lie…and most importantly, where you were meant to be!

I found a cool website that has some information on working for Pixar, such as salaries, job openings, and the type of things they’d ask you in an interview. Go here and check it out!

glassdoor.com/Interview/Pixa … -E5118.htm

Note: The website has a “limited preview” setting that only lets you see a few pages before it locks. To get around this, just copy whatever’s in the address bar into google, then click on the first result to continue browsing.

Very neat PrestoFan! That site gave very good information, I’m going to look at it for some non-Pixar stuff!

That is some awsome information PrestoFan. Looks like Pixar pays pretty well. I bet everyone got a pay rise after the billion dollar earnings of Toy Story 3.

Thanks for the link PrestoFan

Out of interest does anyone know how long the internships last for? It may be on the website and I could be being a bit dense but I couldn’t find anything earlier.

Thanks.

I believe the undergraduate program is 10 weeks and summer internships are 12 weeks . I am not sure about falls/winter internships

Fall/Winter usually 6 months, but it varies. You’ll tell them what works for you.

I believe Disney does all of the distribution and marketing for the films.

Hey. I’m currently moving into my third year of studying animation and film. I’d like to do an animation internship at Pixar in 2013. I’m ok at modeling and technical abilities, but Animation is really my passion and right now it’s more like a lifestyle than anything. I know I’m willing to grind myself into oblevation if I ever got even half a chance to work for them. Problem is… I’m from South Africa. I’m used to achieving the impossible but I have to be honest, I don’t know if they will take someone from such a primitive place. If anyone can help me with contacts, information, advice or even just your opinion I would be very grateful.

Don’t say that… there’s people from all over the world at Pixar, and Pixar deals with the visas for them. What counts is your reel – if that’s kicking it, then you are in good shape no matter where you are from!

Sorry to butt in here, but I just noticed that this thread was created back in 2010, and we have a thread now for 2012 internships, so I’ll be closing this one!
