I grabbed it immediately. It’s a really incredible book, I’m gonna be stuck in it for a while! Hopefully I can start doing some more artwork, especially when I get the Art of Up.
As a side note, yeah, I know it’s the shorts book, but I figure I’d start a general topic for these books in this forum considering there’s more movie books than shorts books.
Art of Toy Story hasnt been out yet? I always assumed it was. I would think maybe they’d wait until the 3rd one came out and then release it with all 3 together. But maybe that’ll be a separate one on it’s own. Is this just for TS1 or is there TS2 in it too?
They didn’t start the current format until Monsters Inc
I can’t wait to see what they do with The Pixar Treasures. There’s a sneak peek of Up But seriously, the description says it’s “Filled with unique removable keepsakes”. That sounds really neat.
Thanks for the link Bryko, that sounds like it’ll be cool. I wanna grab every book at some point, if any of the older ones are still avaliable, most notably Monsters, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and Nemo. The art for those movies seems really incredible, and I’d love to see some of the early concepts for Monsters and The Incredibles.
Haha, I’m actually 4 states away from home at the moment, but thanks for the tip! My local library isn’t very substantial, but I’ll have to look at it. It’s a great book, I bet. I am wanting to OWN them though, not sure if the library would be willing to sell them, it’d be cool if they did (might be in less than desired condition however)
For some reason the Monsters Inc one is the most expensive. It generally goes for $100 or so.
I wonder if that listed Toy Story art book is just going to be a reprint. It has a different ISBN then the original, but the same number of pages. The Amazon page has the same cover as the old one. Here’s a peek inside.
About general Pixar Art bookness. I don’t typically collect all the Pixar toys or anything, but I make sure to get every Art book. Here’s my Pixar/Disney shelf.. My fave is the Ratatouille limited edition one. That was the first Pixar movie that really made me a fan. Not that I didn’t like the other movies, it was just Ratatouille that spoke to me more. Then there’s also the prints that came with it signed by the original artists, which I need to get framed someday.
I’ve never bought any of the Pixar art of books for some reason, although I do enjoy ones based on the Narnia movies and Pirates of the Caribbean. I also just pre-ordered the one for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, as for the Pixar ones, are they worth it? I know my Narnia ones ended up on a dusty shelf in my closet…
I really love the shorts one, it’s almost historic, since it covers the old stuff like Red’s Dream and Andre and Wally B. all the way up to Lifted. (I wanted to see Presto, but oh well). As for the full movie ones, I’ve seen a glimpse of a few, they cover everything, from sets, characters (tons of poses and stuff, really great), general lighting, sketches, final renders, it’s really comprehensive and cool.
I only have the Art of Cars book, and I doubt I’ll be getting any others than the Art of Cars 2 book when it comes out. I love all the drawings of the cars and places! Especially the Doc drawings. The two page spread of the pastel drawing of Doc’s drift is AMAZING!!! I could never use pastels!!! XD I love to look through it when I’m bored, and it was worth the money! What was it, um . . . I think it was between 30 to 40 dollars online. I usually don’t spend that much money on a single book, but for the Art of Cars, that was something I was willing to sacrifice that much money on! When I had gotten it, I completely read through it! I spent my time looking at all of the pictures, and enjoyed seeing the original sketches for the charcters! And, I got to see some artwork from scenes and characters that never made it into the movie. Like there was supposed to be someone who specified in windshields, kinda like an optomitrist and Lightning was supposed to have a nightmare about his engine coming out of his body! (If you ask me, I’m happy they took that one out! That one was just plain freaky!!!) Heck, the town was supposed to be much larger even! But not by much. It wasn’t just one street of buildings. I can’t wait to see what they’ll do for the Art of Cars 2!
He was supposed to have his engine put in Bessy to pave the road, and Mater was going to take his body right when the reporters came and so he would go to the big race. THAT was freaky! (I think that animatic is on one of the bonus DVDs)
I could have specified more. When I said that, I meant this: He was racing at the Piston Cup and was almost at the finish line when his engine just flew out of his body! I know for in the Art of Cars book, you see this in storyboards. Lightning’s engine being put into a steamroller, that’s like putting my brain into my brother’s body! But when Lightning’s engine flies out of his body for no reason, that’s like my brain flying out of my head! What sounds creepier?
Well, I’ve only got the Art of Monsters, Inc. book, but I do love it to pieces, to the point that once I’d looked through it I wished that the final movie was more like some of the concepts that they’d thought of before. Just the feel of some of the artwork is so much more what I wish Monsters, Inc. actually was.
But, if I could afford it, I’d have all of them! That’s the only problem with these books- they’re always so expensive. The Shorts book looks cool though. I’d probably invest in the Toy Story one, considering it’s my favourite Pixar film.
Good news is that Barnes and Noble called me and my book is in!
Bad news is that my phone was in my car when they called, I didn’t find out until an hour later, and I have to go to work in 20 minutes. PLUS, they close before I get off! I have to wait until tomorrow, and I could already have had it! DARN IT ALL!
I’m getting there early for that book, I can’t wait!
the pixar books - DEFINITELY worth it. gives an extra insight to the movie. i own the ratatouille book and the incredibles book - they are both wonderful. i have also gotten my hands on (via my wonderful school library) the art of WALL-E, the art of monsters inc, and… the art of kung-fu panda
(ok, the last isn’t a pixar book but still a recommended ‘art of’ book, featuring the talents of nicholas marlet, who also helped design the monsters inc characters)
