Pixar has a typical style in the characters, usually use big Heads and round eyes.

Do you want that Pixar experiments with a new characters style?

I’m game - needs an option for yes to both. =D

well I’m not a “guru” in such matters, but I don’t think I would want to see anything way too different.

I like the humans in Ratatouille, because they look a tad stylised, but their hair and their body movement looks very real, so that makes up for the “cartoonish” look of the humans. I wouldn’t really want Pixar to make their humans look too realistic because a) uncanny valley, and b) it becomes too distracting. I thought the look of the humans in The Incredibles was very fitting, though.

I would like that they try a little more realistic style in CGI… only for curiosity.

I don’t think they have to make it more realistic than what it has to be. I think it is fine the way it is. I think they are just fine making them believeable.

The actual style is nice, can be interesting that they try new styles too.
Maybe a realistic style work well in a short film, like a experiment.

HAsn’t Brad Bird said to be careful with realism? If you push it too far, then the audience will think something is wrong with it. But I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try it.

I think the cgi have very much possibilities… imagines a short film made like a water color kids book with the drops and imperfection of the hand paint…
can be so cool… and the classic artists maybe enjoy this.

Pixar knows better than to stroll down that path.

The Shrek humans are what I call a step too far. They’re humans trying to be toony, but Pixar’s are toons trying to be human.

~~=oP

Maybe but I think they can make a different toony sometime.
An example is disney, they had a classic style, but tried with other style and did lilo and stich, controvertible for the old fans but they get new fans.

I personally think Computer Animation has two styles with variations Realistic and Cartoon. I think Pixar does different variations of Cartoon style, but i notice that DreamWorks looks more different everytime for example madagascar and over the hedge are quite different. But for me i reallly dont care. I love pixar movies and they are very different but i wouldnt say they have a style.

more cartoony don’t make the animation worse!! Pixar’s still the best and I love thier humans perticularly Linguini  <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In

The style of Pixar’s characters is perfectly fine as is. As long as they don’t go to the The Polar Express MoCap look, I’ll be fine.

Yes the cartoon style no is worst than the realistic. (My favorites characters are cartoon:D)

Only I have curiosity how look a modern character with the years of experience of pixar has in cgi:?:

I never seen in sherk or any animation movie a truly realistic character, make a realistic character (animal or human) can be so hard … but is a good experiment for all the animation studios.

And I don´t want the animation medium make only realistic CGI or forever, only I think it can be a interesting experiment.

I would like to see a new characters stylized but different, that they look like paints of a kids books, can be a pretty movie too. I think the cgi have much possibilities unexplored.

I’m all for Pixar trying out new

styles… why not?

I think that Pixar should stick with stylized characters,

but perhaps different types of stylized characters.

I’m for more stylized, not realistic- we have the

folks at Final Fantasy for that. I’d prefer them to keep on with their characture-like people and try new styles

with those.

Linguini is a great character visually because he’s so lanky and kind of clumsy, it’s a great match for his demeanor. Conversely, when one makes the look heavily detailed with respect to proportion and form, it can cross from charming caricature to something with little bits that pop out as “not real,” albeit devoid of the charm. With an appreciation for what they’re technically capable of, I’m fine with where they stand on character design.

Nothing wrong with experimentation in other ways though. I thought the visual style in DreamWorks Madagascar was very interesting in a sort of lush mod art way, and that certainly wasn’t developed with photorealism in mind.
