Congrats again! You reel was spectacular! You will defiantly get in if you made them laugh with a good impression. Good luck still! Btw are some of those Original Character designs?
If I can do it, then anyone else can too. If you really, really (like REALLY) love animation, keep learning, learning on turbo mode. I literally spent the last 6 months in my room learning, researching and getting the material for my reel done. It’s good to know your priorities in life, do what you like and devote your time doing it. My instructor once told me to find a master, one that you really admire, and try to emulate that level of artistry and professionalism. Of course you will never be the same as him, but if you strive for that quality, you are getting better!
That’s awesome! I’ve been doing the same. I’ve spent the past like…year and a half trying to learn about modeling and rigging (and hair and cloth and everything else). Unfortunately after all that, I only had one rig that I thought was somewhat decent enough to include in a reel. Also…rigging doesn’t look nearly as pretty as your textured awesome models do. xD
Has anyone else applied for the software engineering internship and gotten a response? Also, did anyone that apply for this position submit a demo reel?
Now I am wondering if maybe I should have included one, instead I had a link to my website graphics.ucmerced.edu/~rbackman/.
On a side note I had already gone through the interview process for a LucasFilms internship and they told me that I pretty much had it , then they called back a couple days later to say that all internships were canceled , then a couple weeks later the news that LucasArts was closing …

I know, I’ve been there too, but don’t get discouraged by that, I remember you said you were a sophomore right? Me too, it’s great being young. Even if you make a fool of yourself, no one cares. And Pixar knows that too, I can tell you they’re looking for young people who are willing to expose themselves to different disciplines. Maybe you’re fit for something else, like modeling, who knows? When I get something done, I usually put myself in the position of a potential viewer and be honest to myself. If you get the same impression as when looking at a master’s work, you are probably doing something right. What’s great about this industry is that people are so inspiring and they are willing to share their experience pretty much all the time!
wow you are talented! I didn’t apply for that position but maybe you should send them a demo reel just in case. Or can you update your application and add one?
Thanks man, I’m very impressed with your work too, especially the technical ones, you definitely are a smart artist! You probably have a better chance of getting in to Pixar than me, like for real
That whole LucasArts deal escalated pretty quickly… I’m really sorry about that
You sound like one of my good friends from high school/college. As he puts it we all mature differently into our craft but can achieve the same amount of greatness with time. Some are faster at getting it than others. He is another animator. For some reason I don’t have the same ability to work in 3D like I did in high school. I do like you did recently with some photography work. I learned how to print on tree bark in 3 months and a few weeks… Hardest project I ever took on. I tried animating but like other people it got confusing and very hard. You are using a lot of trig and geometry intuitively. I might take it back up if I have help but its frustrating like reading Java script to me. I can do it just not easily on my own. I can get parts but I most of the time need to ask questions when I get stuck. My friends who do animation live really far away. If I go out there I might inquire about it more because I will have people to ask!
I do photography as a personal thing more so than profit. I really enjoyed the marketing of social media and the algorithms of how things work. I guess thats the technical side of me. You can be creative in marketing visually. I learned how to sell a couture dress through visual representation of life style but also by watching how people interact with things.
I work so much in sales. I personally want to work in a place where I love what I am doing and the people I work with. I don’t care if it is a specific trade. People can adapt like our Computer Science people on here. Like I have stated before in here. The founders of Pixar basically were laughed at for wanting to make a 3 dimensional spaced movie and that it would never sell or be great. This sam company is a powerful innovator today in how animation is made and the types of movies kids watch. They keep heart in a movies.
I would post the photos in here but I don’t think people want me taking up half the page on this forum. If someone wants me to I will. ^^;
Oh no don’t feel that way… I mention that only for PUP people here since Pixar looks for people at the early stage of their career for its PUP program.
Thanks ok it could be worse my crowning achievement at this age was finally making the one character I can draw really well into a stuffed animal which I take on vacation with me. Most of my friends were education majors for kindergarden so I made a video that if they want they can show to their kids and for them to enjoy since I am camera shy. Working on concert photography for posters for a local band again. So I feel confident again… At this age with little to no work around you try anything to keep busy. I wish us all great luck in the internship. Kev already has his foot in the door!
Wow! Everyone is posting about stuff they did in high school, and I realised that I am so behind!
I just recently downloaded Maya so I haven’t really gotten used to it, but it seems like the majority of the people on here already have a lot of animation experience. I am definitely behind
